To reach objects that are out of your reach!
A good example is things like varla stones which somtimes can be too high to reach, use Telekenisis to reach these precious items without much effort :)

Sadly Telekinesis in Oblivion won't open doors or chests.

Interesting haven't thought of that, although i tried to open a gate at the other side trying to use telekinesis to no avail. At first i thought i could use in fight, like u can pick up a sword or arrow and aim it at an enemy and throw it, sadly enough it does no dmg right?I tested this once threw a sword towards an enemy but the effect wasn't as i expected, what about holding an object or shield in front of you?.Would be cool though kinda like a jedi using objects as defence and dmg :)

If you're a spellcaster, you may be interested in NOT carrying a bow. Plus quite a few are located in such niches that shooting them down will land them in a narrow gap between the postument and the wall, totally inaccessible from the floor.

My preferred method is to jump up there with acrobatics fortified to nearly 200 and simply pick them up.
There once was a Prince named Mehrunes
Whose buttocks sounded sonorous tunes
‘Twas an odiferous song
People sang before long
They had enough of his full crescent moons.
