the shirt off your back

Post by aelina »

Is it just me, or are the guards all a bunch of pigs? Every time I get caught stealing something - hey, I'm a thief, it's my job! - they fine me the shirt off my back - literally! I must say that as a female character, not to mention player, I find this somewhat disturbing. So before I jump to conclusions and go into a rant about sexist game programmers, somebody please enlighten me.

If you stole a shirt once, they will always think your shirt is stolen and confiscate it.

It is nothing to do with the sex of the character, the guards treat both male and female equally. If you are playing a thief and getting caught then you are doing something wrong.

It's the same in real life, get caught and expect to pay the consequences of your actions.

Oh, by the gods - it's not about how to steal properly, it's about appropriate consequences of getting caught. The key word here is 'appropriate' - paying a fine is appropriate, being stripped in public is not. I just wanted to make sure that A) the guards weren't overstepping their bounds ("in real life" people in positions of authority have a tendency to do that) and B) the programmers had not indulged in an adolescent sexist joke. Now I know - rant avoided.

The people of Morrowind do not take nudity, or near nudity in public the same way as in RL. They complain, but accept it.

My original point still stands, if you steal something you expect it to be taken off you whether you are wearing it or not, whether you are male or female. Guards are not going to be kind and say - "here is another shirt to wear so you can cover up".

The other point to make is that if you take someone else's property, all items of that id will also be considered stolen whether you obtain it from a legitimate source or not. There is no win for a thief in these situations.

Now I am off to have my own rant about censoring the word sex.

Technically, gender is only for words, like in french, Masculine and Femenine, not people, the correct word, is indeed sex.
