The path to the sixth cohort was blocked by the legionaries and elven guards fighting in the middle of the road. The sixth cohort stormed up the ramps. Two of them fell, taken by arrows, but the rest got up and began to attack the relatively defenceless longbowmen.

The longbowmen tried to defend the walls, but they retreated and tried to find ways back to the other men that wasn't blocked by legionaires. Patronicus and Reinvar held the line on the road with the men.

Many of the longbowmen were killed trying to escape. The sixth cohort killed many of them as the longbowmen retreated, backs turned.

The elven guards, better used in guard work, were outmatched by the legionaries. Almost one hundred of them had been slain, compared to only twenty legionaries.

Trying to flank the legionaires, the gothamic knights charged.

The gothamic knightws couldn't get to the legionaries as the elven guards were in teh way.

The longbowmen used side streets to get bakc behind the elven defence line and shot arching arrows at the legionaires.

[sarcasm]I would love to see a large force of heavily armoured knights charge down a tiny alleyway.[/sarcasm]

The sixth cohort went through another alley, coming out behind the rest of the legion, joining up with them. The elven guards, despite their best training, began to panic and routed, retreating. The legion let them run, holding their position, advancing only slightly.

The longbowmen continued to shoot at the legionaires, the swordsmen, spearmen and slave swordsmen taking the elven guads place.

The legionaries were prepared for the enemy. They held the line as the Hegemonic forces charged. Despite this, the spearmen managed to punch a hole through the line, the swordsmen following them, creating a larger gap.

The men continued making the gap larger, the Gothamic Knights charging where their own men weren't in the way of the enemy.

THe Hegemonic forces were in a sort of D-shape so the Gothamic Knights would have to charge through their men.

The legionaries recovered and managed to temporarily seal the gap, blocking the elven forces in a large ring.

The militia men broke off to fight the two armies. The rest trudged onward.

Only those that pushed through are blocked. So unless you made all of your swordsmen and spearmen push through, which would be a stupid thing to do, then your cavalry would be running into the backs of their own men.

The men outside the circle tried to get the others out.

The legionaries in the thin front line held out, beating away the few ael'uvah that remained outside the circle. Inside the circle, the Hegemonic forces were rapidly being slain. Already, almost 100 had fallen.

The elves in the middle of the circle concentrated on breaking through one spot, the one leading to their comrades. The men outside the cricle aided them in this.

As they concentrated on this, the legionaries attacked them from behind, killing many of them. One of the ael'uvahian swordsmen groups broke ranks and fled, smashing through, running down the road.

The elves within the circle created a cricle, trying to fight their way out.

At last, tehy broke out, having lost 200 of their number, compared to the legionaries fifty.

[Nova]

The men began to back away, the longbowmn continued firing at the legioanires.

The legionaries quickly got their shields out, protecting himself from the arrow fire.
