Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
I'm wondering when this should take place. I've got three ideas:
1) Just after Ulfric's death, which is really desirable to me. Lots of freedom, lots of dead Stormcloaks.
2) Some type of push to Windhelm like idea, which is not a bad idea, but I don't like the restrictions
3) And the last, but cool, Great War idea, which will be the hardest to write a story for, but also the most free.
But all for any ideas that you guys come up with.
On a side note: I've quit the Stormcloaks, but I'm not sure about this thread yet.

I think the Great War will need slightly more seasoned RP'ers and DMs. We can go back in time and revisit that later.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Number 1's still my favorite, and I think we should stay away from the Great War, it seems harder to right the story for.

The Great War just seems to hard to do things for. Maybe we will get to know more about it later.

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
All right, I have a sort of basic story set up for the first idea, I would like pointers.
1.Tullius is killed, it has been four months after the Legion victory over the Stormcloaks, when an assassin strikes, I don't know why yet.
2.Seeing this as the perfect opportunity, the Stromcloak rebels in the hills attack.
3.Solitude is sacked, but recovered, and the rebel army take Whiterun.
4.We go to take the city back
5.?
6.Success!
But really, I have no idea what to write about, so give me a backstory you guys would want.

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
Here's what I'm thinking - if the Stormcloaks were actually defeated, they'd become desperate to get back at the Legion.
Tullius is based in Solitude. Let's examine what they'd need to get their hands on in Solitude.
Perhaps they'd become desperate...try to find some way to crush the Legion while at the same time bringing back the true line of Emperors in their eyes.
Perhaps Potema's remains weren't truly destroyed, etc.
Just one possible plan.
------------------
Also, it's interesting that while the Legion in Skyrim is perhaps Lawful Evil at the very worst (according to the Stormcloaks), the version we're going to be seeing in TESO are basically going to be Chaos Marines. That should be interesting to say the least. Once that game comes out and we learn more of its plot it would be fun to do an Evil Legion RP.

All right, well be in Castle Dour, I'm thinking fresh recruits, when suddenly Solitude is under attack, until said time is over, most likely either Dika or you, Pilaf, should be Tullius.

Ok, seriously, if this is just an RP planning thread now, you should just move the conversation to the RP sub-forum. Post in the Future RP ideas thread.

It's not really a rp thread, it's sort of a talk about the Legion place, but instead of moving it to the FRP ideas, just yet, where we will clog up, a lot. Let's move it to PMs

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
This post isn't about the RP.
So, from a lore perspective, it's interesting to speculate on how the various Legions/Imperial armies throughout the years would differ.
I'm pretty sure the strictly Romaneque look didn't originate until Tiber Septim's conquests. It's implied that Reman's original forces dressed in knightly plate armor and that Pelinal's armor he wore when he went into the past was of this style, and after the Akaviri surrendered at Pale Pass his armies adopted Katanas and Samurai type armor for the remainder of his dynasty and the Akaviri Potentate's reign.
Alessia's troops were referred to as "hoplites" and slaves in rags. I'm sure the hoplite thing is supposed to evoke Greek imagery. It's even stated they used weapons similar to Greeks, like short swords and spears. The poorer ones probably simply looted Elven armor off fallen Ayleids and wore a mix of materials. I'm not sure how they'd dress during the Alessian Empire, but probably sticking to the Hoplite theme but gradually phasing into the Crusader type armor as the Alessian Order's influence grew, especially during the War or Righteousness and other crusades. I imagine this knightly armor continued up until the Blades' surrender at Pale Pass, since Reman's father was a knight.
So here's how I see the Imperial armor developing:
Slave uprising - many would simply go unarmored or scavenge, but the better troops were Hoplites
Early 1st Empire - Styles similar to Greek armies, probably used slings, short swords, javelins etc.
Late 1st Empire through Reman I - Crusader style armor and weapons. Shields, maces, long swords.
Post Akaviri invasion - Blades armor and weapons for elite troops, possibly chainmail for lesser troops
Interregnum - Possibly Necromantic or Daedra influenced armor for the Cyrodillic legions loyal to Mannimarco and the Potentate remnant. Remains to be seen. This could even be where the Roman style armor comes from.
Tiber's Empire - Roman-like armor with variations according to time period and location. Romanesque weapons, especially the Gladius and long bow. Long swords and short swords also common.
Mede's Empire - slightly evolved, slimmed down Roman-like armor - more like actual late Roman armor than the stuff from the Septim Dynasty. Gladius is still commonly used, along with long swords and bows.

Frstly, i will say this, there was a period of chaos between the Empires of Alessia and Reman. The Remanada describes it as an interregnum.
Secondly, I think it is wrong to call the Alessian the 'First Empire', as that term referrs to the First Empire of Man (which was Nordic, and the main human power at the time).

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
I do not think so. The Alessian Empire held that empire in it as well. The Nord Empire had no era, but the Cyrodillic ones always do. Unless they have the right to declare an era, they are not an Empire over Tamriel. The First Empire and the First Empire of Man are different concepts.

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
In this instance I obviously meant the First Empire of Cyrodill.
Also, I see no reason to believe the knightly armor was abandoned, since Reman's father Hrol was described as the leader of a group of questing knights. I'd say what few standing armies of good reputation which remained from the glory days of the Alessians would still be wearing garb similar to the Knights of the Nine of later years, whose own apparel seemed to be heavily based on the Alessian Order, who called one another "Sir" or "Brother" before their names and seemed to fit the classic questing knight or crusader archetype.
Just because society broke down into factions and anarchy doesn't mean there wouldn't logically be some continuation of Order in small pockets. That's why I chose to list the Alessian style armor as continuing up through Reman, because the knight who fathered him would have logically descended from a relict population of Knights.
edit:
Also, history seems to repeat itself during times of Interregnum. There always seems to be some small group of loyal knights looking to restore order, usually by seeking the Dragonborn. Hrol did this during the first Interregnum. Renald did this during the Second Interregnum. During the Third, the Blades did their best to patrol the edges of the world. They weren't looking for Mede though. They were apparently holding out hope for the Last Dragonborn. It could be argued that Mede himself was a questing knight just looking to bring stability and peace back to the land, and should be honored in his own right for ending the Interregnum before it got out of hand.

Legionaires
I'm sorry to crash your thread.
However, some of your fellow forumites are planning a little shindig for the anniversary of Skyrims release. We would appreciate it if the Imperial Legion would join us in our fun. We want to include you, so can you let us have a challenge and location to raid by Monday. Our thread can be found here.

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
1. Why did you choose to side with the Empire?
Because Ulfric only wants to be the High King. If he did want a free Skyrim, he should have asked the High King.
2. Who is your favourite (in-game) Legionarre or Legion supporter?
None at the moment as i've yet to do the Civil War.
3. How do you think the Empire is better for Skyrim?
The Empire has governed Skyrim for centuries and i fear that the Stormcloaks would cause the complete destruction of Skyrim. I'm a nord and we never back down from a fight. But even us Nords know when to pick a fight and when not to.
4. Who do you think should be the High King? ( Out of Imperial supporters, of course!)
Jarl Balgruuf the Greater. He seems like a fair ruler and cares about his people. He refused to take sides in the Civil War untill Ulfric forced him to pick the Legion in order to defend his city. And he one of the best Jarls in the game.
5. Mede Empire vs. Septim Empire?
The Septim Empire was better then the Mede Empire but Mede's empire is starting to fall apart and banned the worship of Talos. The damn milk drinkers!
6. Is there anything special you do when playing a Empire character (roleplaying-wise)?
Does killing every Thalmor agent i see with my current character count?
7. What is your favourite Legion related quote? Same with question 2
8: What are your thoughts on the Talos ban?
An insult to every Nord. But had Titus not signed the WGC, the empire would have been destroyed so it is neccessary whilst the Legion prepares to kick those damn thalmor back to where they came from.
9. Have you ever completed the Stormcloak side of the civil war?
Not yet. May do a Stormcloak character at some point though.
10: Is there anything you would change for the betterment of the Empire?
Yes, i would try to resolve Ulfric's rebellion through peaceful means instead of wasting our soldiers when we should be rebuilding the Legion. And try to regain the trust of Hammerfell. As we need their knowledge of the Dominion. They managed to defeat them when the entire legion had trouble defeating the Thalmor. And if possible, recruit a lot of Orcs and give them a homeland when we defeat the dominon.
11. What is your specialization? ( This will allow me to label your group)
At the moment, two handed warrior that uses Archery. No magical abilities apart from the voice. I do use a lot of Alchemy though. But i usually do tend to use mages or battle mages when i create new characters.

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
Because neither club has had much activity recently, how about I ask you guys a question.
You may (or may not be) be well acquainted with my argument that the Empire is collapsing, as evident in Cicero's journals, its degeneration over the past 200 years, and specifically the acceleration of its degeneration in the last 25/30 years.
As such, I'd be interested in some relatively in depth discussion about how the Empire could get itself out of the cycle (if it can at all).
Anyone interested?

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
Another Revolution, or a decisive military victory over the Aldmeri Dominion. I suspect the two will coincide. I'm not sure if the Medes will hold the Empire together forever. The prophecy from Alduin's Wall indicates there won't be another Dragonborn on Nirn, ever, so I doubt the Septims will return, even an obscure family branch. Of course prophecies can be wrong.
Numidium would be a bit of a game changer. If it could somehow be pulled back into the physical plane and into a stable time, rather than being outside both time and space, it could crush Alinor's fleets.

Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
RP idea, put let's not discuss that hear.
Pilaf is right in that the Medes may not hold the Empire together. But neither could Rome. If the real world parallels continue, eventually we will reach a point where we share economies and then request that they form a lose coalition of states, and then form a European Union that wants to be a big country.

I feel that a decisive victory over the dominion would be incredibly difficult given the Empire's current situation. In order for such a victory to come about, the Empire must get itself out of the cycle of economic, political and perhaps even military destitution. And of course, a revolution or leadership change in its own right is not enough to break the cycle (in fact, it could mean the cycle gets worse).Pilaf The Defiler wrote:Another Revolution, or a decisive military victory over the Aldmeri Dominion. A few suggestions I've been thinking about include sacking the Elder Council and forcing them to pay large sums to the Imperial Treasury to retain their jobs, similar to what Pelagius II did. Of course, this will inevitably have short term, and possibly long term, political impacts (and the Empire can't really afford to weaken itself politically any more).
Perhaps another solution is to grant near complete autonomy to the provinces to allow them to rebuild themselves (similar levels of autonomy that the Armistice gave Morrowind). However, this poses several political problems in itself, as the Provinces may regain their strength, and use it to abandon the Empire.
Any other suggestions? Otherwise the Empire looks pretty screwed.

Before any of these things, the empire needs to kick out the thalmor justiciars within it's borders, if they aren't removed the Empire is double screwedRight-Hand-Of-Sithis wrote:I feel that a decisive victory over the dominion would be incredibly difficult given the Empire's current situation. Re: Imperial Legion (club/faction)
I suspect the Dragonborn's part in this story is not yet complete. We still have at least one more story driven DLC. I don't believe this individual will actually become Emperor, but he or she may be instrumental in defeating the Dominion or at least weakening them.
I still think that person would be the ideal battery or pilot for Numidium. The blood and soul are identical to the original intended battery, Shor's heart, or even the replacement of Zurin Arctus' heart. Or Wulfharth's. Whichever story you believe. The Dominion must absolutely be crushed so hard they can never reform again if Tamriel is to have a future at all. Their long term religious goals are sinister. The implications for physical reality itself are grim. Tamriel can't have peace or unity ever again as long as they are in power.
Who knows what the future holds? Perhaps no more Empires. Perhaps a loose coalition of Kingdoms, with Cyrodill being just a kingdom, or even split into East and West. Maybe even a Republic or some form of Oligarchy. Who knows? The ghost of Tiber Septim, when the Nerevarine met him at Red Mountain, stated that the old systems were failing Tamriel and it was time for something new, but because he was a spirit of the past he had no new ideas and left that up to others.
The Altmer can be a part of a future ruling body of nations, sure, but not as long as the Thalmor poison their ears with their un-creation ideals. Defeating them is the most important thing of all. Sending Alduin into the void was a simple matter compared to this. Better and easier to slay a physical god than to strike out at a menace with one million faces, hiding in the shadows of one's own house.

Firstly, mind if we come back on topic, how can we save the empire from its cycle of corruption and decay, preferably without relying on divine intervention.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:I suspect the Dragonborn's part in this story is not yet complete. Secondly, I don't think it is a wise policy to count on the reconstruction of Numidium. While it can happen, and knowing the arcane nature of TES, it may happen, I'm more concerned with the Mundane issues.
