And whilst your all learning magic you can slowly starve to death.
There would need to be wide spread rationing of food, prioritise the army then the service providers and finally the pheasants who farm the food. (See War Communism.)

Also the Kahjiit mature faster than nords, and it is also three provinces. One province cannot stand against three especially an offensive force.
The Dominion is only two provinces, and even with the Khajiit helping that's not enough land to people ration, it's about population not country size, another thing even Skyrim has on the Dominion. Also Hammerfell would likely help Skyrim if they went to war, they appreciate loyalty.(Unlike some people)

Trade does not stop after the Civil War, see the East Empire Company, they are in Windhelm, even during the Rebellion. And even in the real world it didn't stop. As soon as the Revolutionary War was over, Britain started trade with the US right away.

Uilfric was meant to be loyal to his High King and he went and killed him.

As soon as the Stormcloaks start a war with the Dominion, the Empire will be drawn into it and then you can slowly starve to death. The Dominion will tell the Empire to cease trade with Skyrim or face war, seeing as they're not exactly on the best of terms with Skyrim, which option do you think they'll choose ?

That is a good point. But I don't think they would let Skyrim die.

They'll likely chose the one that doesn't require the Thalmor army to march through half of their lands.

How exactly do we know skyrim's population? We know valenwood does have thriving cities and so does elseweyr, they should have about the same population as skyrim. Also they are defending not attacking, with home advantage at that, so they wouldnt have much trouble handling their borders.

What happened to the last Nord High King who tried to attack the Bosmer ?

The Dominion wont have to attack Skyrim. With no resources they'll slowly starve, eventually the Nords will get sick of it and Uilfric will be overthrown in favour of a more Imperial friendly candidate and trading will reopen. If you think that the Empire will still trade with Skyrim, against what the Thalmor say, just look at what they gave up to have peace.

That really shows a weakness in he Empire's character, because even in our world, nothing like that would ever happen. Life reflects art, so why would the Empire break trade over a war?

The nords can support themselves, just not in a state of war with the army drawing on all resources. Small scale sustenance farming for individual families is easy, and the northern territories can draw the bounty of the seas. It is really only when there are so many people drawing on the shipped goods at once that would cause problems.

I am from Brazil, and went with the legion, simply because Ulfric seemed selfish to me. In my opinion, all he wanted was power, no matter what the cost of it.

Also, I live in the best region of my country, the south. We are completely different from the rest of the whole country; and about 20 years ago, our economy was so strong, we could have been a country alone. Now, because of the current economy, that is ridiculously bad, we are losing all our industries. The main thing here is cattle; because of the leather, we had a lot of shoe making industry and that made us rich. This country screwed us. With that kind of opinion, I should have been a stormcloak, not an imperial. But it didn't made any difference because Ulfric is simply selfish and he does not care about the real people of Skyrim.

To be quite honest with you, to me, he seemed to have this "I am super important over here, I am the boss, don't bother me" attitude. I may be wrong, of course, since I am still to make a new game so that I can play as a stormcloack. But well, it's just my opinion.

Let's stay on topic, guys. Far too much off-ness going on.

I chose the Empire, but I don't think my nationality played any part in my decision. Stormcloaks seemed like nice enough guys to me, but they way they treated Dunmer in their 'capital' irked me. At least in the Empire everyone gets a fair shake. Hmm. Maybe my nationality did have something to do with it. I'm American and feel like everyone should have an equal chance at life, liberty and the pursuit of happiness.

In the interest of giving this debate some closure (also because Musicman posted after I had written my post):
Wolfie wrote:I never understand how ANYONE gets Ulfric is Shelfish, its like they look at him and say "yep he is in it for power"

I think it's probably more than a gut feeling for most people. It's probably due to comments from NPCs like Alvor and Rikke:
Rikke wrote:Stormcloaks... even the name of their rebellion stinks of Ulfric's vanity. He wants to be king. That's all this is about. One man's ambition.
i.e. the Rebellion is named after Ulfric himself, perhaps because it's really only Ulfric's rebellion
Rikke wrote:I've been a daughter of Skyrim all my life. I love this land and her people. So do all the Nords that serve the Empire. Ulfric, too, once. He wasn't always a self-serving ego-maniac. He fought in the Imperial army in the War against the Dominion. But Ulfric and his "Stormcloaks" are deluding themselves. If there's any hope of a long term victory against the Dominion, it's in the Empire. The rebels are only inflaming the tension and weakening the Empire by distracting it from its ultimate aim.
And observations about Ulfric's character, for example, the way he wishes the Dragonborn to deliver the killing blow so that his death will seem more honourable or valiant.

I'm not saying that this is necessarily the correct interpretation, but it's certainly a valid one, and one no doubt a lot of people seem to have taken Wolfie. The whole notion of Ulfric being self-serving is certainly not baseless, however.

As for the topic, I think it's an interesting study you're conducting Imp. Might I suggest, if you want to pursue this theory, that a Likert Scale Survey, or otherwise a traditional Survey might be of greater use than a poll. Also, do you have a hypothesis? (I'm assuming you would suppose that there is a relationship between nationality and allegiance in this case?) Additionally, have you considered any possible extraneous variables, such as ethnicity, age, education, social statues, etc.?

By the way, I'm Australian and a Legion supporter, both because I support the Empire and do not support the Stormcloaks (more so the latter, to be honest). In terms of the Kingdom fo Skyrim, as a Kingdom of Man, I feel the Empire is a better option, as an Empire of Man, which has generally seemed to favour Man, in my view at least. I'm also a Monarchist irl, although I use the term somewhat loosely, for similar reasons. I don't see any benefit in Australia becoming a republic, and so I do not support the republican movement, more than I actually do support the monarchy.

When did everyone get a fair shake in the Empire? In their home province, maybe, but everyone was mistreated and stereotyped, even in Oblivion. Has everyone forgotten how Nords are drunk, Dunmer are bad counts, Beastraces are evil, and Bosmer always annoying? And the Dunmer pay nothing for just about everything. Stop paying your taxes and see what would happen, or go ask for free food. See how the government will respond. The Red Year was a long time ago, the Dunmer should contribute like everyone else.

..........but that isnt what i meant... I mostly meant that as Americans many of us cannot stand to see someone's religion called into question (even though we do it often ourselves) or persecuted. Which is why it seems interesting that there is a 50ish/50ish split on the storcloaks and imperials

I suppose the United States has always been split between certain issues. We're united under a few basic core ideas, but there are a lot of things we keep fighting each other about.

So a discussion like this that's essentially choosing a side over the freedom to worship whatever god you pleased, versus not will definitely cause a split between the American gamers who are playing this thing. (I know there are literally millions of other non-American Elder Scrolls fans who are playing this game. I know. But above poster asked why the Americans were split with this whole thing, so I gave the answer.)

I dunno. When I got involved in this whole thing with my Breton, I wasn't thinking, "As an American, which side would I likely choose?" I was thinking, "Now, what would she do in this situation?" It was her story, not mine. I'm just the guy who helps her get closer and closer to her destination. She chose to side with the Legion, so I took her to Solitude to have a chat with Tullius and Rikke.

Still don't see what nationality has to do with this, though. Sorry. :/
