I've added you both, sorry about the delay and welcome

interesting how you both mentioned Llethri actually, considering his involvement in the Caldera Mines activity in-game. A while back Velothi, I and some others were involved in a bit of a project to Mod a branching Questline which involved both Houses Redoran and Hlaalu and their interactions regarding the Mines. It's sort of died in the water, but the topic is still one of the ones that most intrigues me, particularly considering the potential for a powerful patnership between some of the factions within each of the Houses, specifically the more pragmatic ones.

Thanks for accepting us, but I didn't mean to mention Llethri, I had simply copied the persons questions from the previous post, and I guess I copied a bit to much. For some reason I felt a need to rush through things when a wrote it, so its bound to be a little sloppy. However I plan to start up Morrowind again soon and finish Redoran, I'll keep an eye out for characters like Llethri when I do this time.

Not a problem  I honestly thought you meant, "no idea" why, in fact I think I read it as such (the brain does tend to fill in gaps automatically), so I didn't even notice. I don't know, but I think for me, the Redoran Councillors are the ones I know least intimately, perhaps because I've spent least time with said House in-game, although I dunno, I feel somewhat detached from the Council as a player, whereas the Telvanni Councillors all have quests and are all fairly memorable, and the House Hlaalu ones are somewhat easy for me to recall, considering their split around the two opposing factions at play n the House internally. Basically, I agree, I don't find I interact much with them either, so I can empathise with your point.

I've never done the Telvanni quests, but from what little interaction I did have with them that they stood out more early on, with their council of Tongues and everything representing the Wizards and then their cool towers. I had told myself I'd create a mage and join them but never got around to it.

I genuinely hate the Telvanni way, simply because I dont trust magic wielding people who act suspiciously in very tall towers which are hard to get into.

Simply put, anyway.

I think it's all indicative of the difference between the two Houses, in terms of their leadership. The Telvanni Council seems a lot more fragmented, whilst the Redoran Council seems to act fairly collectively, although that being said we don't have a huge amount of evidence to base such an observation on (we see little of them in-game and there is little recorded material on the subject). As such, the Telvanni Lords seem to be fairly independent, they stick to their own business in their towers and let their Mouths do all the administrative work, while the Redoran Councillors all live within close proximity of one another and tend to all follow the leadership of the Archmaster fairly consistently.

I don't know about you guys, but that sort of gives me the impression that the Redoran Councillors are somewhat weak individuals, although this is probably simply due to a lack of interaction with them. I guess if I think about it Athyn certainly isn't, nor is Llethri in his investigation of House Hlaalu operations regarding the mines. Plus Brara Morvayn is both newly appointed and probably still in mourning, while Miner Arobar is under duress, so to speak. Perhaps then, the Council of House Redoran is simply more subtle. It's one of those areas I wish we could have seen a little more of.

Yeah, I wish they had done more with the Redoran councilors, since they are rather interesting individuals in their own right. I'd also wish that there was, as you said Duruza, more written materiel on them. We could have gotten more lore and maybe some background to the Redoran way and on the councilors, but unfortunately, they didnt.

I can see what you are getting at with that making them look weak, but, if anything, them being in proximity is a good move. At least they know where their own are should anything befall them.

Room for a Nord in the Great House of Redoran?

EDIT: After skimming through the thread, here are my thoughts on that string of questions:
Spoiler:
1. Why did you choose/like Great House Redoran?
I respect honor and virtue over material possessions and wealth.

2. Who is your favourite (in-game) councilor?
Councilor Sarethi, as he is the most open-minded.

3. If you could pick any office in the Redoran family, what would it be?
Kinsman. High enough in rank to be able to get a home/stronghold of my own, and low enough in rank that if worse comes to worst, I am not the first called (And, I wouldn't be tied up in politics with the councilors.

4. What was your favourite quest for the House?
Guarding the Sarethi family from the assassination attempts.

5. Do you approve of Archmaster Venmin?
In some aspects, I am for him, but there are others that I am appalled at. In the difficult times the House faces, we need strong leadership and he is a firm leader, but I am not at all pleased that he resorts to kidnapping to deal with competitors in the Council.

6. Is there anything special you do when playing a Redoran Character (roleplaying-wise)?
I carry The True Noble's Code to remind me to remain virtuous, and I always stop to help or defend those who need the help.

7. What is your favourite Redoran related quote?
Duty is to one's own honor and to one's family and clan. Gravity is the essential seriousness of life. Life is hard, and events must be judged, endured, and reflected upon with due care and earnestness. Piety is respect for the gods and the virtues they represent. A light, careless life is not worth living.

8. What do you think of the Morag Tong?
I am not one for deception and assassination, but the Morag Tong are the most honorable group of assassins I've seen, so I can tolerate them.

9. Are you a supporter of the Tribunal Temple? Did you think they survived the Second Arnesian War?
As a Nord, I can't say I am familiar with the Tribunal Temple beyond the fact that they are lead by living Gods, and I am fairly ignorant of Morrowind's troubles with other nations in the past.

10. Should Redoran militarily take back Caldera or attempt diplomacy with the damned imperial-pigs?
I would want at least an attempt at diplomacy. While I am for honor and virtue, and would gladly greet Sovngarde for a righteous cause, I don't find it productive or honorable to initiate open warfare against another House, despite the corruptness of certain individuals, when there are other options available. All the Houses exist to govern and take care of the people, so I would consider it dishonorable to begin an unprovoked war and deprive parents, wives and children of the good and honorable warriors of the involved Houses.

11. Do you wish to put Hlaalu and Telvanni in their place with their illegal strongholds? Or shall we merely allow the Imperial Administration take care of them?
The Empire has managed Morrowind as an Imperial province since the signing of the Armistice. If they want to put in the manpower to deal with it, then let them, but I consider an unprovoked assassination of other House members to be dishonorable, and certainly not a part of my view of how I would want to see the house progress.

12. Do you believe in the Morag Tong's honor and use? Or are you against them?
As I stated above, I find the Morag Tong to be the most honorable assassins guild around, but I personally would not employ them for backstabbing.
Oh my love, Anastasia, this may be our last goodbye.

Awesome to see Redoran survive well enough after the Red Year and the invasion from Blackmarsh. I think it's great that it was Redoran values that saved the vast majority of Dunmer and Morrowind.

other than House Telvanni, House Redoran is the most promising houses for future stability(assuming the thalmor don't shake things up for the dunmer)

Redoran is most promising. However with House Hlaalu no longer considered a Great House I am wondering about this new House Sadras. Surprised to find Dres is still around and not surprised most of Indoril is considered part of the New Temple.

Blacklight is the new Capital of Morrowind is it not? And House Redoran has a strong foothold on Solstheim. I'm yet to purchase or play Dragonborn, but what other info bout Hose Redoran's current holdings have you guys turned up?

I've found that they lead the Council and the only house that really can compare is House Telvanni. Even then, Redoran is pretty much in charge all the way from Blacklight past to ruins of Mournhold to the Black Marsh-Morrowind border

House Redoran led the charge in ousting House Hlaalu, and stripping them of all rights and power. They also formulated Morrowind's standing-army within a couple years post-Oblivion Crisis, helping stave-off the Argonians during their invasion, retaining the northern coasts of Morrowind, and even driving them back. They've also led the way in abolishing the Tribunal, and instead worshiping the "True" Tribunal (Boethia, Mephala, Azura).

^ Pretty much sums it up. They also led the relief efforts out of Mournhold after the Red Year. I forget what book or who says this but Redoran basically saved the Dunmer race in the aftermath of the Red Year and Argonian invasion.

That wouldn't overly surprise me, although I do find it somewhat ironic, that the House MK said was dead after the Oblivion Gates opened, turned out to be the one which ended up on top after the Red Year. No news about the High King of Morrowind though is there, although it wouldn't surprise me if it turned out to be a Redoran, or if there turned out not to be one at all.

I'm sort of glad that the way things turned out is somewhat similar to the way we theorised they would when we ran the Great House RP a while back. Sad about House Hlaalu though. If I'm not mistaken, their only real presence on Solstheim is a group of bitter, anti-Redoran individuals.

Correct. Even sadder, though, is that the Morag Tong have been reduced to a group of raiders/mercenaries hired by the three Hlaalu members trying to get revenge.

Between the Oblivion Crisis and being on the losing end of the civil war, it seemed logical to write them off as just that, a dying house.
Though, in hindsight, with the abolishing the Tribunal it would make sense that many Indoril would turn to Redoran for their new/old faith if they were leading the way..

You're quite right, I just think it's further evidence that people should not take MK's word today as gold, particularly regarding the Thalmor and the Aldmeri Dominion. Not because he's not one of the most knowledgeable people out there when it comes to TES lore, but because his insight into what Bethesda is doing regarding lore is no longer current, and plans change.

Anyway getting back to the subject of House Redoran, with the ebony mine at Raven Rock exhausted, is it safe to assume that Vvardenfell would have been resettled for its ore deposits by this point, if it hadn't been already? We know that Councillor Morvayn at least was able to survive, so likely other members of the Redoran Council at Ald'ruhn survived, and further, that the eruption of Red Mountain did not necessarily devastate the settlement.

Neloth actually indicates that Ald'ruhn was, in fact, destroyed by--though whether it was the eruption or the invasion is yet unclear.

By both.

Ald'ruhn was badly damaged by the invasion, and then when being rebuilt the Red Year happened.

I had feared as much, the account of the Red Year I read did allude to the destruction of Ald'ruhn, as well as Balmora and Sadrith Mora, but was fairly nonspecific and somewhat vague, so I was unsure as to the extent.

Apparently Balmora was rebuilt, or at least rebuilding work had been underway at Balmora at some stage, so I don't think it's too far-fetched to assume that House Redoran, with all it's newfound influence and power, would be able to resettle Vvardenfell - particularly in order to recommence the extraction of the local minerals and ore to fill their coffers and fuel the Dunmeri economy.
