I say maybe include a few old Nords with Thuu'm power, but that is it.

Say that the Dragon Language is the true language of the gods, and not Dragon specific.

What makes you think we'll be playing as a Dragonborn in TES VI?
And yes I know that regular people can learn it, too, but it takes them years just to master a single word.

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
they could easily implement it by allowing characters to choose "dragonborn" as a trait or starsign, and then having npcs or quests allowing the learning of some shouts. They would be 'just' another major power in the game - it desnt matter if they were there instead of racial powers or stone powers or zodiacal powers - however they would need to be linked with the character for his/her entire life, ie no swapping this for another power mid game, if you are dragonborn then you are committed to that.
i dont think i'd like shouts in other games cos i prefer each TES to be unique and of itself, and i kind of like each game to have a reality of its own, so theres no levitation outside morrowind, no sigil stones outside cyrodiil, etc

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
Exactly. I can't really see Shouts being used in the next game without pushing it lore-wise. Bethesda will probably find some new implement that's unique to the main storyline and setting of TES VI, and I'd be on board with that.Mattbott wrote:i dont think i'd like shouts in other games cos i prefer each TES to be unique and of itself, and i kind of like each game to have a reality of its own, so theres no levitation outside morrowind, no sigil stones outside cyrodiil, etc

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
I think Dragon Shouts worked for skyrim , but i hope they arent present in TES VI .
dont misunderstand , i do like dragon shouts , but i think they only suit Skyrim , and they shouldnt put them in any more games .
In fact , i dont think your character should even be originally part of a legend , i think you should make your way into the legend

The Dragon Shouts add nothing unique to the game. Removing them from the series will have little consequence.

I agree that removing would have little effect (on me at least)legoless wrote:The Dragon Shouts add nothing unique to the game. Removing them from the series will have little consequence.
but they are in a way , unique
as no other game gave you the ability to do some of the things Dragon shouts let you do , like slowing time , or summoning whole storms

I know that , i said the legend , as in i think that while you are mentioned in the elder scrolls , the public and most people wouldnt recognize your prophecy , your legend , thats what i meantCardbird wrote:Except that, you know, everything(Important) is in an Elder scroll.Except that, you know, everything(Important) is in an Elder scroll.philfredobob wrote:I think Dragon Shouts worked for skyrim , but i hope they arent present in TES VI .

Uh, Eternal Champion, anyone? I think they knew about Jagar Tharn, and how I blew him to pieces. Now Daggerfall and Oblivion, I call those the "Bethesda just gave you the middle finger" games. I mean, they even made you die in Daggerfall, and then made it cannon. Come on!

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
The Thuum barely adds anything unique. It is pretty much magic for warriors who don't invest in magic skills. Ganted they can be usefull for mages and thieves, dragon shouts are most usefull to warriors. Of all the dragon shouts about 5 are usefull and unique. I feel it is a one time game mechanic, specific only to Skyrim and will be removed in TES:VI.

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
I would rather not have Dragon Shouts included in TES VI and subsequent titles, to be honest. It's a nice little gimmick within the context of Skyrim, but as a mechanic it's not really that fantastic and I find I don't really use the Shouts very often as it is. It works with the character of the Dovakiin, and with the specific focus of the Skyrim Main Questline, but I wouldn't want to see a repeat of the same in future titles and thus it wouldn't really have much of a place, for me.

You didn't die in Daggerfall. "Activating Numidium" by yourself isn't possible. The Warp in the West lore has little to do with the actual game.Br3admax wrote:I mean, they even made you die in Daggerfall, and then made it cannon. Come on!

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
I think we should keep the idea and gameplay mechanic of an ancient power associated with a particular culture, but it shouldn't be the Thu'um.
Here's an example. In Hammerfell there's this concept called Sword Singing, a form of spiritual magic. Masters of Sword Singing imprint their knowledge on memory stones. These could be collected by the player, and wind spirits or something could be defeated for their souls. You could then learn the Sword Song, and use it with a similar mechanic to the Thu'um, with the R1 trigger, with a cooldown.
Similarly, there could be a hero in Elsweyr who could access the hidden powers given by the phases of the moons by finding Moon Stones or something, and ingesting variations of Moon Sugar dropped by boss enemies.
See what I'm getting at here? They wouldn't be restricted to a certain race, but they would be associated with certain cultures.

Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
I agree the protagonist of a elder scrolls game should be legendary. But Skyrim legend is dragon born I doubt the next elder scrolls games is in Skyrim but each legend in each elder scrolls game should have a power or something.

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
I think you all missed an important point:
Bethesda is nice in that they don't often recycle major hooks and powers like that. You're a Nerevarine once, a Champion once, a Dragonborn once. Let TES 6 bring you something new and fresh!
I seriously doubt the PC will have the knowledge behind learning the thu'um in any way to make it plausible in an upcoming game. Unless you are Dragonborn (which you won't be), you would have to have invested years of singular study into even mastering the utterance. Besides, even in Skyrim, outside of the PC and the Greybeards (and their students, who admittedly aren't many), who else uses the thu'um? No one. Perhaps the appearance of dragons would reunite some vigor in the study, but even so, it's not a skill as easy to learn as the sword. It would take decades to perfect...decades that you probably didn't have.Musicman247 wrote:And yes I know that regular people can learn it, too, but it takes them years just to master a single word.

the Emperor chose you in Oblivion because he was told you were important in a dream, in Morrowind as well you were the reincarnation of a saintphilfredobob wrote:Im sick of being a legendary dude though , i want to go back to Oblivion styel , and build my own legend without any spiritual abilitys ..

so i think being a hero is a doom all TES characters must bear.

Re: Dragon shouts in future games.
So nobody likes my idea?
About re using the mechanic but changing the lore to match other provinces? Because I really like the special moves idea, just not re-using the Dragonborn thing. It would be forced at best. It fit in Skyrim, but not anywhere else.
