Yes, but an educated decision effected by bias. All these arguments all boil down to one thing at the roots. Whether your a Legion or Stormcloaks fan.

As am I. Both have traits that I like. But in the end I always choose the Legion because I see it has the logical choice. That's my opinion. Under different circumstances I might go with the Stormcloaks, but right now I feel there are bigger issues than whether the Nords can worship Talos.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
That's not the point. The point is if they will let their citizens be kidnapped, if they will not stand their ground, if they will forsake their gods, if they will do what ever they are told, what won't they do?Anonymous98223 wrote:As am I. Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
Again, my opinion is that a unified Empire is what is required to defeat the Thalmor. There citizens are kidnapped because they openly worship Talos (who doesn't seem like he was that great of a guy to me), if only they could just put Talos aside for the moment, then we might be closer to defeating the Thalmor. Once there done with the Nords can revere Talos all they want. But once the Empire is gone from Skyrim there's no treaty keeping the Thalmor from doing whatever they want, at least officially. And Skyrims been weakened by this Civil War, it seems like an easy target for the Thalmor.

Maybe not, I've never been to religious. But I don't think people should let their pride, honor, or duty to their god make their decisions for them.
How do they fear them? The Thalmor look at the Nords as if their beneath them, as barbarian animals. The last thing they fear is man.So why do they fear them if they are an easy target?

They dont want the stormclocks to win, if they would be an "easy target" they would want them to win, but they dont.

Talos holds Mundas together, I'm not going to let some petty Thalmor destroy Lorkhan's plan for everyone to relies the prison they were trapped in.

While Mk's ideas are cool, I don't believe that one is canon yet. The only thing that is canon so far is that the Thalmor wish to create a new Merethic Age. And doing that would be easier when all they have to do is conquer a bunch of independent provinces weakened by war and infighting.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
I do believe Talos has power, beyond our understanding, so I wouldn't just toss it up to Men to decide if I allow my characters to worship him or not. And it's really easy if they are already there.

It's not like picking a football team or something.
After having played through the game on both sides and paying close attention to all the lore details involved, we're more privy to what's going on than an in-universe person who has to make that decision.
I don't feel really good about all the decisions the Empire made, but I can see the value of their pragmatism. The more I read, learn about and interact with Ulfric the worse a feeling I get about the man. Yes, he's charismatic and has some positive character traits. That's what makes him dangerous. Men like Jim Jones and Pol Pot could be described in similar terms. Charisma and bravery might make you popular, and successful, and even a hero of sorts, but it doesn't make you right.
The Thalmor must absolutely be stopped - not just because they outlawed Talos but because they're planning to attack again and destroy the nations of Men, or possibly even the fabric of reality itself if some sources are to be believed. But I strongly feel that Ulfric's methods are misguided and ultimately only provoke the Thalmor in a way the Empire is not currently doing. A seemingly docile enemy is a bigger threat, because they're not perceived as one.
Personally, I feel the secession of Hammerfell is a plot by the Empire to make the Thalmor believe the nations of men are more fractured than they really are. I believe it's part of a secret long-term plan to lure the leaders of the Aldmeri Dominion into ambushes and compromising treaties, and slowly gain power back from them until they can be confronted directly. Stupid stunts like real civil wars impede this plan. If Ulfric and Galmar really wanted people to be able to freely worship Talos, they'd realize it's worth waiting a few decades to achieve.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
Well it seems to some people it is. Allot of people I know (not necessarily on here) side with the Stormcloaks because they feel there cooler due to them being rebels and "manlier".It's not like picking a football team or something.
Couldn't have said it better. As for the Hammerfall thing, again, its not like Mede totally abandoned them. I read a post on here somewhere ( I might have already said that on this topic...) that he had left some of his more experienced troops in Hammerfall to inadvertently aide them in their fight or something. If that's to be believed than maybe it is just some scheme of the Empires. After having played through the game on both sides and paying close attention to all the lore details involved, we're more privy to what's going on than an in-universe person who has to make that decision.

I've said it once and I'll say it again, thats untrue, the troops disobey orders to leave, they refused to give up on the empires people and so went AGINST what the empire orderd them to do.Couldn't have said it better. As for the Hammerfall thing, again, its not like Mede totally abandoned them. The empire did not leave them.
http://www.uesp.net/wiki/Skyrim:The_Great_War
had nothing to do with the empire
In Hammerfell, General Decianus was preparing to drive the Aldmeri back from Skaven when he was ordered to march for Cyrodiil. Unwilling to abandon Hammerfell completely, he allowed a great number of "invalids" to be discharged from the Legions before they marched east. These veterans formed the core of the army that eventually drove Lady Arannelya's forces back across the Alik'r late in 174, taking heavy losses on their retreat from harassing attacks by the Alik'r warriors.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
OK, so it might not of been Medes decision. But the Empire was still there in the form of "invalids". Can we stop this argument now? I don't think this topic really has a purpose anymore, all we end up doing is repeating things we've said elsewhere and picking facts that support are opinions, which is all they are, opinions.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
You are very wrong. The Thalmor fear Talos and mankind more then anything else in the world and with good reason. How do they fear them? The Thalmor look at the Nords as if their beneath them, as barbarian animals. The last thing they fear is man.
It doesn't make you wrong either. It's not [only] a question of traits but of actions [as well].Charisma and bravery might make you popular, and successful, and even a hero of sorts, but it doesn't make you right.
That's giving Mede more credit then he's due.The Thalmor would have suspected a ploy and would have acted accordingly.Personally, I feel the secession of Hammerfell is a plot by the Empire to make the Thalmor believe the nations of men are more fractured than they really are.
Much like everyone here that sides with the Empire because it's "cool","they are the good guys" and "it can do no wrong".Well it seems to some people it is. Allot of people I know (not necessarily on here) side with the Stormcloaks because they feel there cooler due to them being rebels and "manlier".
