Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
And? After the loses of the Great War it'd take a while to prepare to do anything. And by elf standards, 30 years isn't too long. IF the Empire planned to do anything, they would be planning to take action after a few years or else they wouldn't have bothered accepting the treaty.
And this is only speculation and theory, I have no idea what the Empire's intentions are, nor the full plan of the Thalmor... none of us do really, the developers could turn around in the next game and say that the Thalmor was lead by the Adoring Fan

That does not make any since, Elves take longer to mature, thirty years is a long time. Humans, by contrast, are mature by 18 years, they should have attacked.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
I believe the Empire's strategy in the short term is survival, but several Imperials in Skyrim speak privately about an eventual counter attack against the Aldmeri.
Isn't it a little cynical and unrealistic to talk about humans as if they're some sort of super soldier cloned primarily for combat? "We bred them up and now we're gonna send them to give up their lives!"

Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
Keeping in mind the weakened state of the Aldmeri Dominion a frontal assault would not be a good idea. There is one reason for this:
The Psijiic Order, an organization that commands the most powerful magical forces on nirn that has been known to protect Alinor in times of peril. One would need to get them out of the way or get them to stay their hand before attacking Alinor.

The Psijics do not like the Thalmor, and Thalmor =/= Altmer. They protect the Altmer really.

But how would the empire know who was thalmor and who wasnt? The Dominion controls all of the isles right now you would need to cripple them all and that would lead to civilian casualties which is a big no no to the psijiics.

Wars are supposed to be against armies, not citizens. If you fight in their army you are one of them.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
But you are missing my point, it wouldnt be two armies standing in front of each other. The empire would be razing cities to the ground in order to get to the leaders and the Thalmor would have no qualms about the lives of the civilians. This leads to civilian deaths. Civilian deaths=Psijiic order getting involved. And that is a bad day for everyone and it makes me a SAAAAADD PANDA.
Wolfie i dont think they have a vendetta against the thalmor they just want to preserve the balance of this world.

Battles usually do not take place in cities. Only there capitals are attacked.

.......Battle for whiterun anyone? Sacking of the imperial city? I guess we would just have to be careful to keep peasant slaughter and looting to a minimum.

And cities, in which peasants live. How many games have we played that there has been more than one capital per county or hold? Unless you can march right into the capital and cut off the head there we would need to disable the rest of the isles as well.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
Peasants do not live in cities, there is a difference between peasant and middle class. You forget that Skyrim is toned down. Arena had the correct number of Skyrim villages and cities not Skyrim. As these people in cities, whom are middle class, usually leave a city. They do not wait to see the pretty colors of the catapults.

Over twenty years after the end of WWI, the citizenry of the United States were reticent to become involved in another major conflict, even though a whole new generation had come to maturity by then. That's why we didn't become involved in WWII until after Pearl Harbor.Br3admax wrote:That does not make any since, Elves take longer to mature, thirty years is a long time. Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
The people on the street, so to speak, don't necessarily have to see it like that. "Freedom" is a tricky word; people tend to construe the world in a way so that they can believe they have it. A lot of people in China, Russia, North Korea, and even modern America believe they have freedom, even thought they're so subjugated that they can't truly exercise it. Likewise, many people of the Empire likely consider themselves free, even as their government kowtows to the Thalmor.Wolfie wrote:Becuse we had our freedom, we where not threaten in till then, the WHOLE empire is threatend by the thalmor and are opressed.

Re: How Much Power do the Thalmor Actually Have?
My point is this, if anyone took away anything we had back in WWII then the pepole would want to go to war, evrey one WANTS to, they are just being told that they CANT, and belive the thalmor are way stronger then they are.Minor Edits wrote:The people on the street, so to speak, don't necessarily have to see it like that. there was "no reason" for the pepole then to go to war, thats not the case here.
Be like when America tried to become indepedent.

And you apparently think the Empire is way stronger than it actually is. All of your assumptions on the Great War seem to revolve around on how the Empire could of continued fighting, all because of ONE battle. And I do remember most of Skyrim's Civil War taking place in outlying forts, not city capitols. While this might of just been for game mechanic reason, if its any indication of how battles are fought in Tamriel it doesn't seem like there would have been too many civilian deaths.

#1 one province alone, one that had beem in a cival war LONG before the great war, fought and took lots of damnhe DURRING the great war and fought yeat AGAIN G by them selfs after the great war STILL manged to hold on.
They are not as strong as they where when the whole empire was with them, its not one battle, its the fact that guys who are not even HALF of the empire, had been fighting it self for YEARS before hand manged to win, if the Thalmor cant beat a faction of the empire why asume it can beat the whole?
#2 the thalmor say they dont want war, if the empire was not reddy, the thalmor would not be scared, them, unlike the empire, knows what the other can do and cant do.

OK I'm not arguing about this again. With the lack of details where given about all of these events there is no certain right or wrong answer, only speculation. Nobody's opinion regarding this is truth.
But anyways, I don't think war in Tamriel would be as violent and suffer as many civilian causality's as war in the real world would. I think Bethesda tries to water down things like this. This is evident by how Americanized allot of the Empires policies are (freedom of speech and religion, at least until the Talos ban) and by how open minded Tamriel's people can be compared to their real-world historic counterparts.
