I get it, I know it sucks that Skyrim runs sub-par to the Xbox and PC versions of the game, but please, don't take it out on Bethesda, they're doing anything and everything they can to try and get as much content and bug-fixes to the PS3 as possible. Thanks.

Skyrim on PS3
Guys, come on. It's not Bethesda's fault for it being difficult to code on the PS3. Sony created a console ahead of what the gaming market was ready for, and therefore was just a royal pain in the arse to develop for. And because the PC and Xbox were practically the same thing, the Xbox with PC hardware from 2005, they had to choose someone to get the short end of the stick, and of course that was the PS3, it being the only console that was, 1) difficult to develop for, and 2) any game that was developed on the Xbox and PC would have to be completely ported over to the PS3, not a simple task.
I get it, I know it sucks that Skyrim runs sub-par to the Xbox and PC versions of the game, but please, don't take it out on Bethesda, they're doing anything and everything they can to try and get as much content and bug-fixes to the PS3 as possible. Thanks.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
Ummm...the PS3, as a platform, is almost six years old itself. Yes, the Slimline version is newer, but I don't see how the Slim presents any significant programming hurdles over the original PS3.
If what you say is true, then the best minds in the industry haven't figured this thing out in six years. Which is another way of saying they never will. I just wish that the PS3 fan herd would stop trying to make the platform sound like some uber-christley piece of hardware that mere mortals fail to comprehend the workings of. The problem is the poor engineering decision to utilize the PS3's RAM in the manner in which it has been done. It presents an artificial and needless restriction in the processing capacity of an otherwise fine gaming console.
The main point of your argument is true, though. This ain't Bethesda's fault.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
I really think they've given up at this point. Sony has already announced that their next console will not be utilizing the Cell processor, so it looks like they learned from their mistake. As far as the RAM issue, it's a good example of what sounds good on paper, doesn't always work in practice.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
I just don't get it. Why can't PS3 users simply download more RAM?
They split their RAM into two, one half being video RAM. So yeah, the PS3 has better graphics essentially and it's unfortunate that it's reached a bottleneck in this instance.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
This whole thread is starting to go against forum rules, so let's stop making threads about the ps3. And I just want to say this. No it is not Bethesda's fault a ps3 =/= a 360. But is it Sony fault the game tries to make it a 360.? No because no matter what, Bethesda made the choice to port the game, only send in 360 copies of Skyrim for review, and say that all versions were on par with each other. Sony did not make the game, at all, so explain to me how it is Sony's fault. The ps3 is hard, so is a cardboard box, but if YOUR COMPANY choses to develop a game for a cardboard box, it's YOUR COMPANY's fault. And all my other games work fine, and so does my ps3, remember that when insult it in between RRODs.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
Well another thing to note is that development studios often have a preferred console for example Bethesda is more of a Xbox studio, while something like ubisoft is more ps3. I'm not talking about just game franchises either but the whole company itself. This is generally just something that gets worked out by the fat cats up top and platform owners.

Nobody is flaming or breaking the rules. The rules are in place to prevent console flame wars, and that isn't happening in this thread. I thought we were having a moderately intelligent conversation about the problems between the PS3 and Skyrim along with its various DLCs.
No gaming system is perfect, trouble-free and above criticism. Valid criticism and discussing/explaining the shortcomings of a particular system are not the same thing as a flame war.

Seems to depend on the dev-team. Some games come out almost effortlessly, without any serious issues.Eltee wrote:Plus, there is always that fact that the PS3 is horrible for the devs.
It seems, from personal observation, that a lot games that start on the 360 don't translate well over to the PS3, but the opposite is true if it starts on the PS3.

1. I'm not flamming. In fact that is what you are doing when you say, "They delivered a working product, they don't owe you DLC."Cardbird wrote:You're the one flaming. 2.Define working, it works for me, not so much millions others.
3.Add on content is on the back, they owe me something. And putting stuff in patches doesn't work, because add-on content is not patches in the PlayStation Store.
To the point, I think I have made it clear that I do not even care for the dlc, I'm way over it, like a month ago. But when there are hundreds of threads across the internet that insult my console of choice just because of ONE company, I'm going to respond. Dawnguard can go away for all I care because after the latest update I never though it was coming.
I get that, but how many threads do we need to tell the ps3 players they were stopped to buy a "limited system" or a "dying platform"(not said here) We can have discussions, but I think two threads is enough. And talking about how we shouldn't complain is bad. I'm not made about losing dlc, since I generally don't believe in it, but telling us my fellow ps3ers to sit down and shut up is wrong. To tell us to learn our place, in a market were we should all be equally supported, is a very narrow and terrible point of view. Limitations are limitations, but imagine if the roles were reversed, you would be made as well.Evil-i wrote:Nobody is flaming or breaking the rules. Respond away. We can point out the flaws in the PS3's hardware. Respond with a counter argument instead of "Stop hurting the feelings of my lifeless box of silicon, you big fat meanies".Br3admax wrote:But when there are hundreds of threads across the internet that insult my console of choice just because of ONE company, I'm going to respond.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
It's not that, I just do not want to be insulted just because I was dumb enough to buy a ps3 game from Bethesda or told that the ps3 is inferior to your "lifeless box of silicon". Bethesda games do not determine the dominant console, no matter how great they may be.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
Br3admax you were not insulted, nor was your console. It wasnt until you posted to stop flaming that the focus was put on you. The ps3 has flaws, but it is a good system. The main problem is that unless you are making a game from scratch specifically for the Ps3 it doesnt seem to work out well.
There is no "dominant console" they are all better at different kinds of things.
I havent noticed any other Ps3 players acting like this are you sure you arent taking it too personally?
Edit: I dont follow

Hey, I may not be British, but I know what a "pain in the 'arse' " is. And they "had to chose someone to give the shortend of the stick" but they "did their best"? That sounds like a paradox to me.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
Here is how it works, they got very few years to make a port to 360, pc and ps3
360 and PC are so simmlar that there is no problem, the ps3 is diffreint form those two and would require way more time to get it the same, as what works for 360 and PC dont work in the ps3.
they are in no way in controll of how long they have to make a game, they are told "maked this run on this this and this"

Yes, becuse its a big deal and a lot of pepole, like you are blaming one side, and the other side is blaming the other guys, as such there are threads like this, just like when Skyrim first came out and Stormclock and impreals, or which is better morrowind or oblivion, or how this one sucks and this one rocks, its the natur of fourms.
No thread, what so ever is unique unless its based off a new game, even then you will likely find 8 topics on it anyways.

Okay. You can either have a thread that nicely talks about the problems with PS3 and creating content for it (which is what was happening until about 5 posts ago), or you can argue about how you're not bashing. Next post here tells me whether or not I lock the thread. (Hint: it involves the aforementioned topic.

Re: Skyrim on PS3
I find it strange that developers directly associated with Sony have a much easier time developing games for PS3 than external game developers. I admit it, I was really angry at Bethesda when the news came out that we may never get the DLC, but, I have seen the light! PS3 is super hard to code on, I rest my case... -steps off box-

Re: Skyrim on PS3
I bought Skyrim on the release date to the PS3, and i really like my PS3. And yes i miss being able to explore the DG expansion. And i was sad when i read the news that DG might not come to PS3, so now i'm just hoping for a GOTY with DG, HF and hopefully one more expansion.
It's no bigger deal then that i first bought Oblivion to PC and waited to buy the expansions till they made a GOTY edition with SI and KN.. So my conclusion is that i will have to buy Skyrim two times, same as i did with Oblivion.
I do not blame Bethesda or Sony for not releasing DG to PS3 as a DLC, i am how ever a bit disappointed that Bethesda lack of skill in porting/developing/writing material to the PS3 system.
I think if Bethesda don't publish DLC's to Skyrim on the PS3 system, it will be an decision taken from a economic point off view. It is most likely that it is too expensive for Bethesda having the staff (trying too) porting the game if they lack the competencies to do this.
