Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
For me, I don't consider it a Questline or a Faction, per se, but I think it's a nice enough touch. It tells a story, and let's be honest how much can one put into a Bard's Questline without it being rather involved?

Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
I think the quests can be useful if you're at a low level. It's nice to see you're attributes level up for doing pretty much nothing, but either than that, it's pointless.
Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
It really feels like a half finished idea. What irks as it stands, is that so `you've joined the bard's college` but don't even get a bed or any storage you can use......

I think the Bards College is okay as a sort of side quest, and I don't really think it'd be worth Bethesda's time to flesh them out into a full on faction when they could instead flesh out the other factions or add a new one with greater relevance.

If your'e not able to actually become a bard, then why let us join at all? I'd be more ok with the concept of a bard's college if the people there wer just like any other questgivers, you could just walk in and get a couple of sidequests, and that was it. Letting you join, call yourself a bard but never allow you to play or sing or do anything "bardish" just feels... Mean.

I view it as a little flavour touch on Beths part and not a faction they decided to put in that they never finished. You have to understand that a faction that revolves around poems and songs would be difficult to implement fully from a gameplay perspective.
We should be glad they put it ingame in the first place because they could have just written it out and we would have lost a cultural and lore value of TES.
Most of you are, from my point of view, undervaluing what we do in service to the BC because for me finding historical instruments that have weight in Tamriels history and helping maintain a cultural holiday is sufficient to feel a sense of accomplishment.
Also the skill reward is not really negligible for completing these task.
I share your opinion ArgonianDunmer. If it were up to me I would focus on the guilds that are already established or put new ones in the spotlight in future DLCsArgonianDunmer wrote:I think the Bards College is okay as a sort of side quest, and I don't really think it'd be worth Bethesda's time to flesh them out into a full on faction when they could instead flesh out the other factions or add a new one with greater relevance.

Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
That is a good point. Since your character doesn't have a voice besides shouts a song might be hard but you don't get to even play. It could be something like farming or something to pick up cash.Aurora Winter wrote:If your'e not able to actually become a bard, then why let us join at all? It's an utter waste of time. I'd be much happier if they let me join the Silver Hand or the Vigilants of Stendarr.

I think the bards College shouldnt have let you play instruments , as that would be quite pointless , BUT i do think it should have had an effect on your speechcraft , as in you become able to charm certain people with your bard training (similar to the Black widow and Lady Killer perks in Fallout 3 , except without the damage bonus)

Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
I voted for "Other" because I would prefer if it either only existed as a non-joinable faction or that it had a real quest-line. I don't want any of this partially join-able crap that they pulled in Oblivion too, where you join a "faction" after completing one quest and then have nothing further to do with them.

Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
The problem with the player being a bard is the fact that you have no voice. Of course there's the occasional grunt when you are being hurt, but could you imagine the Dragonborn singing a whole song with the voice of some random NPC?

Maybe you could attach a mike , and use your own voice ...
haha , that would be hilarious , listening to someone sing into their screen at the imaginary people while in their room (especially if the player was male , and the character female , or vice versa

Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
I'd like more from the Bard's college. Playing instruments to Calm, Fear or Courage NPCs would be cool. Maybe a song that would give a perk similar to the gift of charity. One or two other quests would be nice. I do like that you don't end up in charge of the College. But a Bard perk tree like the Werewolf and Vampire ones would be cool.

I approve of the idea but the execution is pretty lame so I voted "other" because I have mixed feelings.

Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
The Bards college is just the place I loot when I have to do one of the Thieves Guild side missions... doing the missions are pointless... offers some unique dialogue from the Solitude Civilians but thats about it. You get a word of power I believe though from the Dungeon if I remember correctly (Been several months since I did the Bard Quests)

No point of having bards collage unless you could learn new songs. I mean of course they wouldn't let your character actually talk but if you could Learn new songs maybe you could teach them to bards across Skyrim or something.

NAY! The bards college is comparable to a piece of sh*t on a stick, primarily because you don't do any bard stuff >.> Hell, it's not even a college! What you have is a cell of the game, filled with bards and a questling about finding books (which, is not even a questline imo)

Didn't like it in the least. I still haven't finished that Burning of King Olaf quest and I don't plan to. Only got as far as I needed to do the other quests at the college so I could finally get those instruments out of my inventory.

Re: Bards College: Yea or Nay?
The idea of a Bards College set my imagination running wild. The thought of making a 'bard-like' character seemed to go hand-in-hand Skyrim's setting. But what we got was a complete joke! I would prefer the game without it if I had a choice at the current time. So much could have been done with it, but all we got was a glitched, pointless and completly unbard-like 'go fetch' questline which added nothing to the game. Do I approve? Not in the slightest...
