If you compare it that way, the Stormcloaks at first sound more like the Americans. But after aa while, that changes. I don't really see the comparison, but I voted Legion.

I'm English and live in Idaho at the moment so I wasn't shore how to vote. I hate Ulfric, Galmor, Tulius and the Thalmor. I prefer the look of the Stormcloaks but think both factions are pretty awful. Why wasn't there an option in the game for Ralof, Hadvar and the Dragonborn to team up and kick both factions out of Skyrim?

I'm from Romania(region:Transylvania),a country that has been:
-an independent Tribal State
-a Roman province (Romania  )
-"member"(annexed) of the Austro-Ungarian Empire
-Pasalac of the Ottoman Empire
-allied country of the 3rd Reich (Nazi Germany for those who don't know)
-member of the USSR

...and I voted Stormcloaks for a number of reasons. For starters,I've experienced a revolution first hand (romanian rev of'89.For those who care, you can see it on youtube.) and I can strongly sympathies with the SC (a thing that 90% of the people on this forum can't).
And most people pick the Legion, regardless of nationality, because they are Empire fanboys.
A thing that can be seen in their poor counter SC arguments.

I am an American. I support the Legion.

Seems a popular poll choice.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

I guess I was tight. Americans support loyalty, so they can go either side.

How would it be better? Not to start a debate, just wondering, maybe make Cyrodill better

Well, the main reason i picked the Empire is mainly because of the Aldmeri Dominion. I think that if Skyrim was independent, then the Thalmor would have an easier job taking it. I also read somewhere (I forgot where) that the Thalmor want the Stormcloaks to win. If I'm wrong i completely apologize.

On the avatar thing: On here, or somewhere else? I just saw it on Images and thought it was cool.

The Thalmor actually do not want the Stormcloaks to win. If they did, Skyrim would be stronger. Even Cyrodill would be stronger, because trade would be established. A mutual trade is better than an empire any day.

...And instigating and continuing a bloody, costly war against a just government doesn't qualify as playing into the Thalmor's hands?

A ban on sending prayer to a war-god in public doesn't seem like too much of a fuss to me. Once again, probably my heathen secular Canadian outlook.

It must be my heathen secular American Freedom of Religion that makes it seem wrong, I mean bad Eltee, "you know the rules." I mean I didn't just compare moderators to the Thalmor. Wait.
Okay, * breathe*
No the Thalmor do not want the Stormcloaks to win it harms their "overall position in Skyrim", they need a lasting civil war.

The Thalmor want to prolong the Civil War as long as possible, so to weaken the Empire and Skyrim's resources or something like that. However if Skyrim wins, It still seems to be a pretty bad thing when looking at the big picture. And I fail to see how trade between the Empire and Skyrim would be stronger with an independent Skyrim, it would be better if they where unified, all this Civil War is doing is depleting their resources that they would need to trade. The Empire and Cyrodiil would be weakened, not strengthened. The only faction who would benefit from his would be the Stormcloaks, not Skyrim as a whole. And if the Stormcloaks win, well then surely High Rock will go after that, and the Thalmor's job of conquering Tamriel just got easier.

Well then blame the ones responsible for it, the Thalmor, not the Empire. Plus the Stormcloaks are the reason why the Thalmor are cracking down on Talos worship in Skyrim at the level that they are.

Here's how. What happens to Skyrim silver? It goes to Cyrodill. What happens when Skyrim trades silver? It goes to Cyrodill AND we get something in return. And any smart company protects it's investments. A trade system would be better. And the Thalmor wanted the Stormcloaks to rise in the first place, so no they did not come because we were angry. They came to make us angry.

you misunderstand
4E 176 — Ulfric Stormcloak retakes The Reach, instigating the Markarth Incident. The Empire and the son of the deposed Jarl promise Ulfric Stormcloak free worship of Talos in exchange for retaking The Reach. Ulfric forms a Nord militia and crushes the Reachmen at Markarth with the aid of the thu'um. The survivors flee into the wilds, forming a group called the Forsworn. Ulfric is arrested when the Thalmor discover the open worship of Talos. Ulfric and his men are eventually released, but the incident kindles what will become the Stormcloak Rebellion.
this was BEFORE the war, before all the "the stormclcokc are to blame" proaganda.
This was the empire breaking a promise.

My actual nationality has no basis on what I choose for the civil war, it all comes down to individual characters. Though the characters race may play some part in their decision it's more often than not so grey that they have to choose who fits closest to their Ideals. Ex. My Breton sides with the Stormcloaks despite wishing to assist her countrymen and keep the Nords out of the Reach and, if irrc, return that land to Highrock becuase she can't stand the oppressive nature of the Legion.

The part of the Reach in Skyrim never belonged to High Rock. Both country(provinces) stole the Reach from the barbarians there. In fact, High Rock took a much larger piece.

I believe it's said somewhere that it was allot easier to get away with Talos worship or something before the Stormcloaks overreacted. And I doubt that all of that Silver would only go to Cyrodiil, Cyrodiil isn't the only place in the Empire, if anything it would spread throughout the Empire, which would include Skyrim. But the Stormcloaks are so closed-minded to gaze beyond the borders of Skyrim and to act with their brains instead of pride. If Skyrim is independent, I'd bet that most of that Silver would go to Skyrim, and not other places its needed.
this was BEFORE the war, before all the "the stormclcokc are to blame" proaganda.
This was the empire breaking a promise.
It not like it wants to, its doing what it has to. If the Thalmor hadn't caught wind of it, I don't see any reason that the Empire wouldn't of stuck to their word. But sometimes doing whats smart requires a little sacrifice. The empire also has to keep its word to the Thalmor, so to prevent another war for as long as possible. Its not like their being as unjust as you think they are, there doing whats best for the Empire as a howl, not just Skyrim. The Stormcloaks are to selfish to see that.
