Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
In regards to the last two issues you raise, I'd just like to point out for anyone reading them that we don't yet know that a monthly subscription fee will be charged (and with the failure of so many fee charging MMOs of late, I personally doubt ZeniMax will be so foolish) and ZeniMax Online has stated several times that one of its main aims is for the game to be playable on computers that are relatively dated even by today's standards.

Duruza is correct.
I think it's silly to say you won't buy something because of details that haven't been confirmed or denied yet.

Well, some of us have hardware that is so crappy that we don't need to wait for the announcement...

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
I really do think that internet connection will be more important than hardware in the case of this MMO, and most MMOs and other online games for that matter. Still, if your hardware is that dated, then it's not just this game but many, many modern ones I'd expect you can't run? Hardly ZeniMax's fault though.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
Yup, that's certainly true, I can't play most games made in the last 6 years or so. I'm not blaming the video game industry for it though (that would be just silly), but the question here was "Will you buy TESO?" - I'm just explaining why I won't.

Well nobody means to specifically single you out. However you have to admit, a lot of (although certainly not all) 'reasons why one will not purchase a game' tend to be criticisms of the developer.

I'll definitely be buying the game, subscription fee or no subscription fee. I'll likely pre-order - hopefully there will be some pre-order goodie(s).

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
@Duruza - This, or criticisms of MMOs in general. Actually, because I'm not a fan of MMOs, I'd pick "unsure" if I had a computer good enough to run it and I completely understand people who might not want to play TESO because they just don't like MMOs, even if they are set in universes they love. But I agree that whining about Zenimax doing something different is pointless, especially before we can even see the results.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
I would love to play it, but only if they have a f2p option, or perhaps if it is buy and play. But I would still prefr f2p. No point wasting money on a game that may or may not be fun.

I will probably buy, but I hope it's B2P or F2P. If it's F2P then I will not spend any money on it

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
Let me explain it: if the game was P2P then I would not buy it, because I don't have time to play a mmo right now. If it's B2P then I'm fine with it, it's good to pay once and have it for ever. If it's F2P I will not spend money in micro-transactions, because I'm against this type of businness, where you can be better than other people if you spent more money in it.The-Shadow-One wrote:deathm00n wrote:I will probably buy, but I hope it's B2P or F2P. Hell no I wont! got really excited at this then I saw a YouTube video showing a little bit of gameplay, looks terrible! terrible graphics and characters... you can just tell this is WoW with an Elder Scrolls theme... I am much more interested in the next morro-blivion-rim style ES. I just prey they do not use the Thalmor story to forc epeople to buy it and play out that story to an end. holding out for that conclusion to be a big ol add on instead.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
MMOs in general sound like a bad idea to me. WOW is king, and because of this many people have a tendency to compare the newer MMOs to WoW, and often say as the poster above me said... "You can just tell this is WoW with an elder Scrolls Theme". This is the truest statement of all time, if anyone ever played Warhammer AOE you'll know this to especially be true considering the whole combat system was basically WoWs with a Warhammer Twist. That new Star Wars MMO was released and has basically been unheard of since because it was advertised as being this crazy action game but in reality it was a boring quest lined game designed to give closure to the first two KOTORs. WoW combined awesome game play with good quest lines designed to make people dependent on one another instead of just going in and being all "Blood for the Blood God" and tanking everything in site by one guy who played the game too much. TES is going to be designed the same way, because that system works, which makes me wonder... why buy this game if I already have WoW? the Lore? TES as much as I love the lore of the world... I don't see there being much hope for it... especially considering I heard it was going to be like 800 years before the events of Morrowind? So we already know whats going to happen... the Thalmor eventually get defeated... Molag Bal the protagonists of the TES online will somehow get defeated by heroes...only to respawn for the next batch of questers. Morrowind becomes part of the Empire. Talos ascends to God Hood. The war of the red diamond is fought... We all know the lore... why not just make it after the events of Skyrim? At least then we won't know whats going to happen. Regardless I just dont understand why companies keep giving MMOs a shot. It will make money for the first two months because people are nicer than I and will give things a shot. But they will quickly shelve this game and cancel their subscriptions due the fact that this will most likely be a greatly advertised game with great cinematics, great landscapes but a WoW replica in terms of gameplay. That's just my two cents...

Now im not disagreeing , i do think it will be the same as WoW .SAMIAM wrote:MMOs in general sound like a bad idea to me. but i think its set during the Interegnum , and we dont know much about that time period
but then again im not sure
now my opinion :
I will not be buying this , i dont like MMOs in general , and i feel that most people will simply try this game , then go back to WoW in the end , or maybe go and play one of the other MMOs made by other guys who focus on MMOs , like Guild Wars 2 or something ..

Subscription fee? Definitely not.
One-time purchase? Probably; I'd wait for a good sale though.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
This is one MMO I'm going to try out, for the lore/exploration stuff if anything. Though, from what I've heard, they botched some of the lore. >.< Still going to at least try TESO out, hopefully it's better than expectations. :< Got some friends who will be playing it too; it's going to be fun to play with them. First MMO that I will really invest time in, hopefully.

They would have to do something amazing to convince me to buy it. From what I've seen so far it looks rubbish. Whole thing seems like massive waste of money if you ask me. It is a huge departure from what I like about the series. You can't beat World of Warcraft by copying it and people aren't going to play two fantasy MMOs. Zenimax would be better off setting their $100 million on fire. Or better yet giving it to me.
I will however check out Avron's Let's Play. We really need to hold her to that.

I will absolutely be doing it from day one. When we get closer to a real release perhaps I will start a thread and ask what people are curious about, and I will make sure to check out those features as well as I show everyone the game's basic functions.Knight Captain Kerr wrote:I will however check out Avron's Let's Play. Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
Have people not seen the interviews of the developers, or TotalBiscuits video about TES:O? From what I've seen, the questing is going to be a lot more organic that WoW's shopping list style questing, and more akin to Skyrim. The combat has been described as a mix between GW2 and Skyrim, and the PvP is more like DAOC's (in that it's 3 faction PvP). So as the game has been represented thus far, it's nothing like WoW.
To whoever said that P2P MMOs are failing, haven't taken into account Rift, which has been moderately successful for the last 2 years (it's yet to need to go F2P), and to whoever said that micro-transactions are bad, consider Dota 2's F2P model for an example of excellent use of micro-transactions. Also the game generally comes with a free months subscription if it is P2P.
In my opinion, this game is looking to be a solid game, which I'll enjoy even more so due to the TES theme. I'll definitely pick it up or even try to get into an open beta to test it out.
Also it's made by Zenimax Online, not Bethesda and will not hinder TES: 6 so there's really nothing to worry about.

Re: Will you buy The Elder Scrolls: Online?
I have carved a swath through the dozens and dozens of articles and editorials and interviews to get some information that interested me. I'm only throwing you guys tidbits, here, there's still a LOT to learn, but here's some stuff I found out. Don't worry, no plot spoilers or anything.
CLASS INFO. There will likely be at least six classes upon release. There is a current but temporary class called Rogue, but...Whatevs.
Dragon Knight: These skillful masters-at-arms use the ancient Akaviri martial arts tradition of battle spirit, and wield fearsome mason that pounds, shatters and physically alters the world around them.
Templar: These traveling knights call upon the powers of light and the burning sun to deal massive damage to their enemies, while restoring health, magicka, and stamina to their allies.
Sorceror, Warden and Nightblade
--the Sorcerer is an offensive spellcaster with a versatile array of magical abilities. Lastly, the Warden was not described in detail, but is likely a more defensive mage, specializing in beneficial spells and group healing.
There's more to them than that, obviously. There was some info from the hands-on taste tests, loosely detailing skills and abilities, but pfft. Too much to sift through.
CHARACTER CREATION. Awww yeah.
First/Last Name: During character creation, the player will have the ability to enter both a first and last name for their character (forming an unique server combination). The naming guidelines: At least 3 letters long, starts with a letter and ends with a letter. No more than 2 of the same letter in a row. One hyphen or apostrophe at most.
Body: Type (triangular slider featuring points of Muscular / Large / Thin)
Body: Skin Color (various selections)
Face: Type (triangular slider featuring points of Heroic / Soft / Angular)
Face: Hair Style (slider featuring approximately 11 selections)
Age: (sliders)
Adornment: (sliders)
Eyes: (various selections)
Brow: (various selections)
I still have a bunch of interviews to watch. Just sharing some stuff I discovered.
