What Dean said. Let's not just do away with this since some people can't help but argue about it. What could be a much more extreme but guaranteed way to end arguing on it would be to simply ban discussions on post count as they never go anywhere. Be honest here, when has this discussion ever lead to anything but a headache?

If you want a higher post count, read up or play the games and then when someone with a question comes along, help them. That is why we exist, to help people out with the Elder Scrolls. If you spam to raise your post count, your poss will be deleted and you'll be warned. Nobody is going to get away with post flooding so the threat of such actions is not really a good reason to change things.
This, among a few others, is a great post.

I see no reason to get rid of post count, or to change how it works. Both people that argue that we shouldn't have a post count at all because it makes it a competition and promotes spamming yada yada yada, and people that say it should apply everything to make it fair or whatever, don't make much sense to me. If we don't have post count, people are going to spam either way, and the ability to look up a user and see how many total posts they have is still possible. So that makes little sense to me. You can even see how many posts they have in a specific forum, so people could still tally up the posts in the current fashion.

I don't think your rank really means much on the whole. You have people that have been here less than six months with thousands and thousands of posts, and you have members that have been here for years that have fewer than five hundred. Yet both could potentially be just as useful to the forums. Too many people put stock in the ranks and post count and think that whoever has more is more valued. In my opinion, people want a higher post count because they think it makes them more important on the forum. You can tell who is highly valued by reading their posts and deciding for yourself, not because they have no coins or they respond to every post on the forum.

Keep the ranks and post count exactly as they are would be my suggestion. Anyone that is bothered by it on either side of the debate seems to be making mountains out of....well nothing in my mind.
