Customizing MGSO
So I installed MGSO and everything works...but not as smoothly.
Yes, my system specs are a bit below the requirements for the "slow pc" selection. But I was wondering if there is ANY way at all to make it run a bit more smoothly.

Re: Customizing MGSO
You should make sure you're running the 'stable' version of MGE (the lowest on the list in the Morrowind Options program). MGE is the main part of the MGSO package that really gobbles up your RAM.
Also, a lot of settings within MGE can be adjusted. I'm not an expert in this field, but I'm sure a lot of people on this site can give you far more extensive advice on this. Turning off the distant lands feature can seriously improve performance. Also, the water settings you've chosen can have quite the impact on your framerate as well.
You can also considerably improve performance by fiddling around a bit with the Morrowind.ini file. If you're interested, there's a good guide for that here.

Re: Customizing MGSO
In the MGSOO application....I am using 3.0b stable. But what if I turn off MGE. Will that do anything drastic? Or make the Overhaul useless?

Re: Customizing MGSO
MGE is what makes the graphics look all pretty and stuff. So yeah, graphically the change will be quite drastic. But no, it won't make the Overhaul useless.
My current setup can't handle MGE either, but I use everything else from the Morrowind Overhaul. The majority of the mods in the Overhaul don't need MGE to still be awesome.

Re: Customizing MGSO
Hmm...it kind of sucks because I really wanted this Overhaul. Like I said, it still works and no bugs from what I see, but still a bit too laggy for my tastes.
I tried fiddling with the MGSOO application, but it comes up with an error saying:
"Unhandled exception has occurred in your application. If you click Continue, the application will ignore this error and attempt to continue.
Access to the path C:\Program Files\Bethesda Softworks\Morrowind\Options.ini is denied.

I've tried messing around a bit with it, but it's still too laggy. =/ Such a shame, everything looks so beautiful!
What are some other mods that make the world similar looking to MGSO but easier on a computer?

Honestly? AFAIK none, you need that kind of power... I mean I guess (dont know much) all the mods with it may also affect the game, so maybe just the texture with out the other mods?Caligula wrote:I've tried messing around a bit with it, but it's still too laggy. =/ Such a shame, everything looks so beautiful!

and how is your computer not up to date? if the grahpics are not up to date then well... graphis are not going to work...

Re: Customizing MGSO
I run MGE with hi-res texture packs. It ran fairly smoothly until I added MCA and other similar mods (having lots of NPCs gobbles up your RAM too).
So try MGE and some hi-res packs. I use Visual Pack Combined from http://elderscrolls.filefront.com/file/ ... ined;56241 and Darknut's creature/armour/weapons textures.

@Caligula: A little late on this, but what are your specs anyway? It would help if we knew what you're working with.

Processor: Intel(R) Pentium(R) CPU [email protected]
RAM: 2GB
64-Bit Operating System
Video-Card, I have no idea. I don't even know where to look for that.
I know it's not a strong computer for video games, but I can run Oblivion great....unless the Overhaul is much bigger.
And of course Vanilla Morrowind is super smooth.

Re: Customizing MGSO
I looked up distant lands, and it already is unchecked.
Also, I reduced to resolution to 800x600 and it works A LOT more smoothly. It just sucks looking at a small screen.

Re: Customizing MGSO
Yeah, it has to be an issue with MGE. Though you should feasibly be able to run MGE stable with 2GB RAM...
