Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
I hope it is possible to use necromancy in TES:O. I'm not sure how it will be implemented, if it was, but necromancy is my favourite type of magic and I would love to make my Argonian necromancer in TES:O. And when I say necromancy I don't mean summoning zombies and skeletons from nowhere, I mean raising my dead enemies as thralls to do my will, trapping the souls of my enemies and creating my strongest weapons from them, and brewing up vile poisons to spread disease and death throughout the land.

^ This! I sooooooo wanted to be a necromancer in Morrowind, everyone kept telling me how horrible they were and I kept daydreaming about enchanting a healing ring with Fargoth's creepy little soul.

I just hope that there's a multitude of different spells. Skyrim really took out a lot of magic...

So you want your character to have superhuman eyes that can somehow see around the horizon curve, is what you're saying.Cardbird wrote:I want to be able to see for miles. In Skyrim you can see the Imperial tower and the Red Mountain. So it should be possibleskooma steve wrote:So you want your character to have superhuman eyes that can somehow see around the horizon curve, is what you're saying.Cardbird wrote:I want to be able to see for miles. I know, I'm just commenting on how it's kind of unrealistic to be able to see that far.

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
The thing is, if Tamriel was really the size TES games suggest, the "continent" would be the size of a rather smallish island... I get that for example Cyrodiil is supposed to be several hundred miles across, but a fast runner can make it all the way across in 5-6 in-game hours (which would make it about 70 miles, if we use the champion marathoners' running speed). The thing is, because of the rate the time passes it's only a few minutes real-time and you can see every step of the way, so it makes it hard to believe that it isn't really a 5-mile jog, no matter how fast the sun is moving above you... And even if we counted the lore size of the provinces, it should be possible to see something as huge as the Red Mountain from Skyrim. On a clear day I can clearly see the Tatra Mountains from my window and I'm about 85 km from them. And they are not very high mountains...
Anyway, I suppose that's one more wish for my list - don't cheat by making the time pass 30 times faster than in the real world. If you want the players to feel they're in a huge world then don't resort to cheap tricks (like the time difference or making the roads twist to make them seem longer). Instead, actually make the world huge. This is MMO. People are going to explore it for years. It only makes sense to give them something real to explore, rather than having every hardcore player know every single rock and tree after just a few months of playing.

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
If you can see mountains that are 85 km away, that's about equivalent to being able to see 1/6th of the way across the province of Cyrodiil. There are also things like the refraction of light, atmosphere, how far above sea level you are...the list goes on. But I'm just being being nitpicky. We can't expect a video game to calculate the innumerable geometric formulae needed to approximate a realistic view distance.
But I completely agree with you about slowing down in-game time. They shouldn't make it equal to real time though - if you had to play TESO after work, for instance, you'd only ever experience Tamriel at night.

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
It's only 1/6th of the distance if you measure the size of Cyrodiil by how much in-game time it takes to cross it (or by what the lore says). If you measured it by physical dimensions, using stuff like the size of a building or a tree for comparison, the entire province of Cyrodiil is smaller than the island of Manhattan. And that's what I think is a reasonable way of measuring distance - you can call it 10 miles, you can call it a hundred, but if it looks like a mile, I'm going to call it a mile.
I know that video games can't strictly follow the real-world rules and I don't mind that, but in a project of this size I'd like to see a bit more effort to limit the need for suspension of disbelief. I know they will probably release new content periodically, but I'd like the basic content to give that feeling that you've been thrown into a huge, living world. And I'd like it to last longer than just a few months.

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
I'm sure the game will have PLENTY of content - it's the quality of that content I'd be more worried about.
And yes, I was measuring Cyrodiil by what the lore tells us. If we were to derive actual distance from the in-game landmasses, we could extrapolate that Nirn is an extremely small planet. There's no real way to know for sure, unless there's something in the lore about Nirn's circumference that I'm not aware of.

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
Well, we all know that the lore is not consistent at all in this area - for example, judging by TES2, the province of High Rock is bigger on the inside. Much, much bigger.

I'd be fine if the released Tamriel in sections; just to get the continent bigger. I'd rather have a larger land later than a smaller sandbox sooner.

What I really wish for this MMO is to have naming restrictions. I don't want to run around meeting a guy named [censored] or L77TPlaya or find out the new "king" is X2410DragonbornxX135. I'm fine with meeting an Argonian named Im-Leet or a Nord named Rolf the Uber though.

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
I found a way to steal from other people IN THE GAME what if they went the way frodo did when he put on the ring he turned invisible but he left a shadow so it could work if you appeared invisible to enemies in other factions but they could see your shadow of course this all could only work in cyrodil but its a start.dzio wrote:I like this idea, but I think it would make thieving 10 times more difficult. Real people are much harder to fool than some dumb AI (and won't ignore the fact that you're going through their stuff just because you have the "Sneak" key pressed).

1. I hope it's easy to have multiple characters
2. I hope it's not impossible to play without a hoard of friends.
3. I hope it doesn't cost too much per month so I can play without breaking the bank.

Books. Lots of books.
I'd really like to see a way for players to write and publish books. There'd have to be staff to vet the player books, of course, but I'd like to see travelogs, personal accounts of quests, that sort of thing.

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
That would be awesome. One of my favorite mods on Oblivion was one that added books that were character story submissions to the modder. It was parcelled in with some other thing...I don't quite remember what it was called.
I don't know if they already have this or not, but I'd like for the areas to be as interactable as possible. Most MMOs I've played pretty much only let me interact with NPCs and quest items, and that was it. I want to explore houses, snag an apple from a market stall. I want to rearrange knick knacks randomly, just because I can!!!
I realize it's probably not feasible for an MMO, and I won't be crushed if it doesn't happen, but if they could pull it off, they would have my soul...

Re: The TESO wishlist thread!
Pocket picking was turned down by ZOS because they decided that player property should be safe. You can't make a permanent unwanted loss of anything in the game besides the resurrection fee, and it's possible you can avoid that too by running for it. So what pockets would you pick then and what would you find? Taking other players' gold would obviously lead to griefing, and developers nowadays have learned to avoid griefing issues by simply not setting them up in the first place. You can't very well have a way to generate gold by simply picking each other's pockets with no loss either so the reward would have to be trivial.
Would we really want trivial pocket picking? Some would but I think most players wouldn't care about it. However, including trivial pocket picking would definitely lead to some vocal players to bıtch about its triviality and demand serious returns, and this would just go on forever.
Moving objects would inevitably lead to players filling doorways and tunnels with junk "because they can". It's another griefing issue.
Lots of books are officially confirmed. More books than in any previous TES game if I remember correctly.
- "2. I hope it's not impossible to play without a hoard of friends."
It won't be. The main quest will be instanced and solo only (no inviting friends). And obviously they will have lots of single player open PvE content plus you could always go rogue in Cyrodiil or just follow some group around. You would probably miss out on the harder dungeons though.
- "3. I hope it doesn't cost too much per month so I can play without breaking the bank."
Get ready for standard sub fee. This game is already very popular and the bar is set high so there's no reason they won't use a big business model.
