Likely, yes. And you know what, knights of the nine was free for PS3 users, so maybe dawnguard will be free? Or at least hearthfire.

Fallout: New Vegas, anyone? Obsidian managed to make the game with an engine they did not even know and, despite the number of bugs, it ran good on each platform. We could also talk about Dragon Age and Mass Effect which were ported without any trouble, even though the games are among the heaviest and most complex of their time. Yes, coding on PS3 is hard. But if Bethesda can't do it properly, they might as well give up.GoatLiver wrote:I gotta agree I see a lot of hate being directed Bethesda's way when it really isn't there fault. If you argue that other games run on the PS3 without problems just remember that these games are probably less than half the content or complexity of Skyrim and that probably makes a huge difference.

Re: PS3 users
Yes DA and ME don't have an open world, but the game still have to keep track of a lot of infos and the cities/dungeons/whatever are huge.
And what about New Vegas? They made the game and released 5 Dawnguard-sized DLCs in less than a year, without any kind of trouble, and for a much smaller price.
And yes I'm complaining, if they managed to make the whole game and release it in time, I really don't see what kind of "trouble" they could be running in.

The Creation Engine isn't much different either. It's a graphical improvement, of course, but little else changed. So I'm wondering; if Oblivion, Fallout 3, New Vegas, and Skyrim run fine, what's going on that makes Dawnguard, a medium-sized DLC, so hard to port?

Re: PS3 users
Skyrim isn't known to run all that "fine" on PS3. Problems with bloated Save files hit PS3 users very hard shortly after the initial release. I'm pretty sure one or more Patches have done some palliative engineering to diminish these problems, but I think it's a stretch to say that the problem has actually been fixed. It's just been made less severe. Again, this sort of problem tells me that the game was forcing the PS3 hard up against its RAM processing capacity. The "fixes" in the patches probably just pared things back somehow, just to the point where the RAM wasn't constantly overwhelmed, allowing the game to run acceptably most of the time. It's very possible that the addition of Dawnguard DLC is pushing things beyond the PS3's limits again, which is why Bethesda is referring to "performance issues" as the cause for the delay.
My thinking is that the patches to fix the original performance issues only did just enough to get acceptable results. Now, with added content, Bethesda is finding that it doesn't have enough wiggle room to continue to fix performance problems.

Re: PS3 users
I didn't have any issue with the game, despite some save files between 12 and 18MB, and I got a 1st gen PS3. The game crashed, what, twice? And there are a few FPS drops from after playing a couple of hours. I don't know, maybe I'm just lucky.

I wish they would release Morrowind for PS3. It would be nice to play through it again on a console.

Re: PS3 users
Based on today's status update, I doubt we will see this DLC or anything future supporting PS3.
They stated the problems with an unstable system was bigger than just the DLC. As buggy as 1.7 came out, I don't doubt it. Since some of the earlier corrected bugs came back in 1.7 I would guess they are struggling with the basic system calls on the primitive level in their port. A true correction would seem to be a recode for the base system, something I doubt they will invest in.
So, I think the platform will be obsolete before we see any thing else from Bethesda.

That sucks. Not doing a port is one thing, but couldn't they do something from the ground up for PS3 owners?Pacasteel wrote:Based on today's status update, I doubt we will see this DLC or anything future supporting PS3.

I don't mind the wait, as long as I get all the DLC. And if we're not getting them all I want to know, 'cause in that case I'll just not buy any and wait for the GOTY that will most likely have all the DLC.

I hardly see any of you guys, where did all the ps3 players come from. As to the question, Hearthfire probably will come, it's just a house mod. An official House mod, is still a house mod.

Re: PS3 users
I'm a PS3 gamer. Bought Skyrim on launch day and patiently sat through all of the trials that we had to endure, because, essentially, I still loved what the game should have been and really wanted to play it through.
Long story short, I've not played it for many months for one reason or another. Suddenly had the urge today. Slipped the disc in, d/loaded the expected update, loaded my level 51 character and just started mooching around. I was on the far eastern side of the map, with a signpost for Windhelm nearby.
Saw an abandoned ship in the sea, walked over the ice and jumped into the water.
Game locked up completely, freezing the PS3 so that it needed a full cold shutdown.
When it came back up, I extracted the disc, and will never play from it again.
I've had enough now.

That glitch has been gone for awhile, and even when it was here it was player fixable, so don't give up just yet.

It's the same thing with Skyrim (you can find FO commands like "start pip-boy").New Vegas runs on an upgraded Oblivion engine, I believe.
For the same reason R* released GTA 3 on the PS3:money.The nostalgia effect is still there so why not make a profit out of it?And It would be fun to play a Beth game without it killing my console (or my nerves) for once.Morrrowind is a game from 2002. Why would they put it on PS3?
Delete your game data then re-install it.Problem solved.Saw an abandoned ship in the sea, walked over the ice and jumped into the water.

With Sony getting involved they could do just that. That sucks. Not doing a port is one thing, but couldn't they do something from the ground up for PS3 owners?

Re: PS3 users
Just for the record, FONV is one of my favorite games, and it has a huge amount of problems on the PS3, especially with the DLC installed. I beleive the problem with both FONV and I'm guessing with Skyrim the problem is that the scripts for each area don't start running until you visit that area in game, after which they're running all the time. This is why it's correlated with larger save games.Wolfie wrote:But dragon age has no where near the levels of skyrim, skyrim is HUGE and landscape yuou can go anywhere you want, dragon age you select where to goElakyn wrote:Fallout: New Vegas, anyone? It's not (directly) the size of the landscape or the draw distance that's causing the issue. It's more the issue of still running Vulpes Incultas script while you're exploring the Big Empty. Or Sergio Palagias while you're in blackreach.
A more efficient HD caching system would probably alleviate the problem, but that would entail planning ahead, which is something Bethesdas programmers are unwilling or unable to do. In my opinion, this should mean that they would no longer be Bethesdas programmers, but hey, I don't get to make those calls.
I've said it before, Bethesda makes great games and terrible software.
It's okay to disagree with me, you're entitled to your opinion. No matter how wrong you are.

FONV wasn't made by Bethesda, by the way. Obsidian made it.
