Re: Least Favoured Guild
I don't think anyone is saying that a Bard should be able to club a Dragon to death with an enchanted Lute. It's just that the Bards' questline is so incredibly short and shallow that it seems like it was added at the last minute as filler. It's also very buggy, which tells me that it was never properly play-tested, which underscores the feeling that it was an out-of-the-mainstream and mostly-ignored feature that got tossed into the pot late in the development cycle.

Blades probably. They are way too stupid in Skyrim.

Re: Least Favoured Guild
I hate all the guilds in Skyrim, the questlines were all way too short compared to oblivion! I think Bethesda put way too much stock in the radiant *lol* AI to do the work for them. Which I would be okay with if only the radiant AI was a bit more believable. I think that eventually it will be advanced enough to seem realistic but it's not there yet. But the worst of them all would have to be the Bards college Hands down.

Re: Least Favoured Guild
For me the College of Winterhold because it had just gotten interesting then it stopped. Most of the guilds were too easy to do and not a lot of meat to them. In Oblivion's Thieve's Guild between quests you had to steal a worth of things to be considered good enough to continue to rank up. I didn't play much of Morrowind but I liked the idea that if you joined one guild another guild is closed to you (I think it was Fighter's and Thieves). I know the Thieve's and DB in Skyrim had more filler quests which was nice.
Skryim's guilds need to be longer (not just more radiant AI), more restrictions between guilds and your character needs to have levelled far in either skills/quests to continue. The College of Winterhold had this at with the good spells you can get with quests you only got when you had like 100 in Restoration. Other guilds needed this as well.

A hero can be anyone, even a man doing some as simple and reassuring as putting a coat around a young boy's shoulders to let him know the world hadn't ended.

Yeah I'd have to say the College of Winterhold was the best as it had more content for it but it was still too short lol, I can't believe Bethesda would ship the game with only an hour or two of content per guild.

The Bards College. I had SUCH high hopes when I heard that this was going to be inlcuded. The thought of wandering the country side singing tales of valour set my imagination running wild, only to discover it was a 'go fetch, all done after 5 minutes' questline. I mean I cannot even play a freaking instrument, it's not even worth the time.

^That happens regardless of the guild however. Going in there without being on the mission is the same to the dungeon. Honestly if they would let me play some instruments and stopped being so damn greedy i would be okay with them.

Re: Least Favoured Guild
I found that at least with the other guilds you at least had some ties to what you were going to go fetch. I felt the Bards College was completly lacking in story, or even a goal. Honestly, I would prefer the game without it, it added nothing (other than a bloated inventory).Hissien wrote:^That happens regardless of the guild however. Re: Least Favoured Guild
Least favorite has to be the Bard's College-- as per. It really didn't feel like I was becoming a bard, just a really handy asset that can do a fetch quest like no other. I honestly thought that the effigy burning was the start of a few other questlines within the guild, but jaklsjald nope :< Second least has to be the Blades-- I went through all that trouble to resurrect them, do their bidding and give my followers away as new recruits, only for them to completely disregard anything I would say. I thought they served the Dragonborn, not the other way around??
Favorite ones though, had to be College of Winterhold and the Companions. I KNOW, super unpopular opinion-- but despite how short the college's questline was, there was some meat on its bones, I wouldn't mind if it was expanded some, but hey, beggars can't be choosers. As for the Companions, there was definitely a lot of potential, and I wished there was more fighting and warrior-poet-ing than "hi welcome to the Companions now do you want to be a werewolf?". BUT it's fertile ground for the likes of artists and writers like myself who like these untapped potential and go wild with it in our heads ;>

Re: Least Favoured Guild
the bards college isnt really developed, so i sort of expect dlc to address that. For me its the dark brotherhood, i am weary of the same old same ol' each game and look back on the days of the morag tong with fondness. Even though the DB plot in skyrim is different in some ways to the Oblivion one, its not really moved on imo, and i prefer the morag tong writs to listening to a corpse for my plotline. If we needed assassins (and we probably do, i admit) i see no reason why the grey quarter might not have its own version of the morag tong
tbh why couldnt the bards college actually have been the skyrim equivalent of a spy network - and as such, with an agent in every pub and throne room, the bards spy school would be a real threat to the Thalmor spy network, and that plot could have been developed further

Now this is a good idea , Bethesda should have done something like thisMattbott wrote:tbh why couldnt the bards college actually have been the skyrim equivalent of a spy network - and as such, with an agent in every pub and throne room, the bards spy school would be a real threat to the Thalmor spy network, and that plot could have been developed further
in my opinion , while the bards college was quite awful in-game , i think it would have been even worse if you were made into some wandering bard who goes around with a lute or drums singing to people , because as an actual game feature it would be dreadfully boring for a player like me (maybe not for Roleplayers though) and also quite pointless (again , for a player like me )
but the idea of Mattbot is excellent

I'm actually pretty happy with the Companions quests. Sure their quest line is pretty short but while the Silver Hand is still in play their radiant quests are among the better side quests of any faction.DikaSmausha wrote:I wish their were more quests in the Companions.

Re: Least Favoured Guild
I suppose so. After the initial annoyance wore off I had a pretty easy time ignoring the werewolf aspect of the Companions. In my opinion break into enemy stronghold and either find enemy plans or wipe everyone out was a lot more fun than the DB's go here and kill target which is usually easy to kill.

For the main story yes. The side quests made me feel like a hired thug. It would have been nice if they made it more like their core quests where they offered you bonuses for doing things a certain way instead of kill this person however you feel like.

Bards college only because its missions are rather pointless and all the same.
I will say that I wish you could have gained actual rank with the Legion and had been able to command NPCs. That would have been sweet. I would liked to have seen more from the Penitus Oculatus too.

Re: Least Favoured Guild
i wonder if a strategic element in TES could work?
I sometimes think it would be cool to set guard patrols in and around my keep, tell my followers to sneak up to the left whilst i attack the giant from the front (or whatever) or even tell my servant to send a message to the lord asking for a meeting etc,
also if you are a legate after the civil war story then you might have peace keeping duties and have to plan raids on bandits or hold outs
it would add depth to the rp experience, usually TES doesn't find many ways to change gameplay when you are the guild master/hero of the hour

Disappointing to hear about The College, for the first time I am enjoying a magic orientated sneak... and I was looking forward to getting into that guild because in oblivion that is where all the cool freaky stories were (Necromancers and all that)
I wish we had a necromancy guild.
and why did they remove summon skeletons? uuugh!

Re: Least Favoured Guild
^ If you have Dawnguard installed, you actually get something like "Summon Boneman" if you're Conjuration is any good. They're skeletons, but badass ;> Also, I believe necromancy wasn't frowned upon in the College :> If you talk to Phinis Gestor he mentions this, and I think he sells spell tomes like "Raise Undead" and some such :>
