Spoiler:
Canids
The Canids hail from the sandy seas of southern Afrik. They are tall, bipedal canines with a penchant for trading. They have built many roads that string across the desert continent.
Biology
The Canids are, as the name suggests, canine-like creatures. They have a cardio-vascular system that is suited for endurance, sprinting and to cope with the desert heat. They are dichromats . They have a skill for perceiving objects at long distances. Their vision is suited more for low-light situations, as they typically go out hunting during the night. They have very good hearing, which stretches above the normal range of a human. They have hearing mobility, which allows them to pinpoint hte direction of a sound quickly. This is vital so that they can hear desert predators and Barabic bandits coming during the night. What they lack in the visual field, they make up for it in nasal efficiency. Their mastery of their sense of smell is tenfold better than that of a human. They have short, thin tails that have slowly retracted into their bodies as they have evolved. They have three fingers and a thumb and a pad on their palms. They have four toes. Their nails are like that of a dogs, although smaller and fatter. They typically stand at a height of six feet, just over the average size of a human. They live to about the age of 50. They are slightly more magically attuned than humans, with an Essence count of 1250.
Personality
Canids are very polite and kind, even to their enemies and those that they despise. They are also very loyal, similar to domesticated dogs. In speech, they usually put a title in front of the person's name or, more commonly, their race. For example, a Canid may address a stranger as "Madame Menagi" or "Sir Elf". It is an insult if they do not give someone a title. Being adept traders and merchants, they are very outgoing and talkative.
Culture
Canids live in family tribes of as many as five thousand Canids. The tribes are closely related and linked by a system of roads. Trading is rife between these roads and the tribes have large bazaars in which they sell their wares. Becoming a trader is one of the rites of passage in Canid culture. They are also a very warrior-like race. They have warred with the Barabs for centuries. Certain pups from each litter are taken away each year to go to the Academy of Mra'Jar-Ilzat, a school in which the finest fighting skills are taught. On graduation, the training warrior is expected to join the army or become a sellsword. On joining hte army, the young warrior is expected to make a name for himself and become a respected fighter. Once a warrior has served for five years, he is allowed to marry someone from the Alz'Kra-Isaal caste. The society of the Canids is divided into two sections: The Alz'Kra-Isaal caste (the leading caste) and the Alz'Kra-Masaal caste. There is a blended line between both societies as they both enjoy prosperity. Canids usually tend to stay in small, rural villages in the sand dunes, however, many have strayed to the dock cities of the Pa'Grus-Magrufed to find work.
History
The Canids possess a full and interesting history. They are a very ancient race. This is evidenced by the ancient cities of Pa'Grus-Magrufed, namely the traditional capital Mar'Tok-Derkatak, which is about six thousand years old. It is so old that the walls have lost thre quarters of their original height, as it has slowly been sinking into the sea of sand. They were first discovered by the early Barabs who entered Afrik milenia ago. From then, their joint history has been of war and toil as both races fought for control of the continent. In 673 of the Fifth Empire, a historical treaty, the Treaty of Mar'Tok-Grarbuzi, was signed, declaring a cease fire and a truce. Since the Second Empire, the Canids have resisted the Mithraleenean Empire's advancement into Afrik fiercly, however, they have adopted certain Imperial aspects such as language and the calendar.
The Canids are governed by the Pro'Ras, kings of ancient bloodlines. The first Pro'Ras was Pro'Ras-Mjari, a brave Canid general who united the tribes under one banner in 875 B.F.E (Before First Empire) to drive out the Ael'uvahian invaders who attempted to conquer all of Afrik. From that point onwards, the mantle of leadership has been passed on from father to son, mother to daughter. The Pro'Ras live in the Mar-Derkatak, a grand fortress nestled inside the walls of Mar'Tok-Derlatak.
