I try not to, I like to use my imagination and create a new character with different political, philosophical and religious views to myself. But, I think it's inevitable that your own views will, to some extent, influence how your character develops.

The first time I ever play any RPG I make the choices that I would make. I do this to try to immerse myself in the fantasy universe. Like I am a part of it. After my initial playthrough, I like to explore other Archetypes and Personalities.

Dark Spark Fun Fact: When I made my first Oblivion character, I chose 'Healer' as my class.
Baurus: Our job is to get the Emperor out of situations like this. Though I'll admit, things aren't going exactly to plan.

Casandra: At the moment, the deadliest weapon at my disposal is a goblin's head on a stick. I'd be worried if this was the plan.

Pfft. I usually play video games to get away from myself, actually. Why would I want to play as a skinny, white, diabetic 16-year-old? I'd rather play as a skillful redguard warrior or a stealthy elf. My personality, however, is something I always like to integrate into my characters, at least partially.

And yes, I know I'm not supposed to take it that seriously.

I like the idea of playing as myself and I don't often run into the "I'd stay inside all day" thing. For a while there, I was a police officer and while I never responded to a dragon-attack call, I like to think I'd be willing to stand my ground against a bandit or wolf. Dragons... well hopefully I would cultivate some skills before that happened.

On the other hand, I find it hard to play as myself for some reason. Something about it feels... off. I keep making a character that sort of looks like me, playing a little ways and deleting it, to do the same thing over again. The times I've invested the most time into a single character, they have been nothing like me, so perhaps I am looking for an escape. Maybe I'll be a dunmeri nightblade or something. I need to take some time a write a character background where they'd be cool with the Thieve's Guild and Dark Brotherhood but not the Vampires.

Maybe I'll make a living escorting you wussies from city to city, all the while dispensing gruesome lore and obsessively sharpening my Daedric katana.

The fact is, all of my characters are to some degree me if I was in the Elder Scrolls, so...yeah.

I made myself in Skyrim.

When I got off the cart at the beginning, Ulfric and Tullius both dropped dead from Divine Exposure, Alduin cowered at my feet like a lapdog, and I immediately transcended to Godhood, replacing the (weaker) 8/9 Divines.

Wouldn't really fit in TES universe due to the absence of fat guys sat in front of a screen in a dark room. I must copywrite that idea before EA use it as next Bioware game.

Playing a cop should be easy. Just grab a club and put a fire spell in the other hand (pepper spray) and go around beaing people up.

I don't literally make "myself" but I preferences from myself always come through.

I usually play only Bretons and Imperials as I find it easier to relate to a character that is similar to myself (Scotch-Italian)

I generally play only "good guys" except for the obligatory bad guy run through I do for sake of completion. Even though I'm making fake choices in a fake world, i still find it hard to be an evil maniac. My own morality plays through. I'm capable of making hard and difficult decisions that might cut the fingers off to save the hand, but not out of spite or need to be evil.

The avatar doesn't look like myself but will share similar characteristics (hair color, nose, eyes, etc.).

So while I literally don't "play myself", parts of myself always come through in the character.

I quit being a cop. I didn't want to be miserable for a living. I was just merely citing why I wouldn't be afraid to go out and do things, rather than hiding behind the walls of Whiterun.

In a way I think I do. The characters I make usually have my morals to a degree, and the ones I find myself attached to usually are the ones that fit (at least what I think) my own personality. Obviously, there are the expections to the rule, as I can't shoot fireballs from my fingers or defend myself from a pack of wolves, but for the most part I think I do roleplay myself to some extent.

Exactly! I normally leave things alone unless they come after me (especially in my current play through). Makes the game last longer, and is a much more rewarding experience I think, especially from a moral point of view.

Also if we are going on physical appearance.... lets see... im fairly short, i have light brown skin with dark hair and eyes... well it sounds like a bosmer but i am not a fan of eating people...... so its confusing.....
