Ugh, he makes you look at him. I've only ever been able to stand up to three pages.

Re: Slenderman
First off, this thread should have its name changed from "Slenderman" to "Slender" unless you want to turn this into a general discussion on the mythos.
On the topic of the game, this is just another example of the indie genre showing those mainstream guys how to do horror. The disorienting experience of searching through the woods at night without any further explanation as to what is going on besides a message telling you to collect pages is just excellent. The musical cues help set the tone while audibly alerting you the rising tension as you progress. The graphical elements like the fog help perfect the atmosphere. And the actual pursuit forces you to take part in the atmospheric elements by forcing you to run to escape and turn off your source of light.
While this game is far from perfect, the fact that is free and rather short leaves little excuse to not play it.

Disclaimer: watch Marble Hornets before you play this game or you will not get the full experience.
Now then, I wouldn't call it that scary (it certainly doesn't mess with your head like Amnesia does) and I could get really pretentious and complain about a fairly improper portrayal of the Slender Man but as has already been stated here it's yet another message to the creators of Dead Space saying Look At How Much Better We Are Than You Despite Having No Budget.

Re: Slender
I've seen plenty of playthroughs on YouTube, and I'm pretty close to downloading the game. Although if I did, I'd probably play it once, then never open it again out of fear.
Start the groove.

Re: Slender
I don't like this game because it did succeed in scaring me. It reminds me of the time I played SCP-087 and was fine for the first few levels, then on about level 18 I screamed at a face coming out of the wall and closed the program. It's not so much the atmosphere that scares me - I've watched Entry 60 of Marble Hornets and most things pale in comparison to that - as the fact that I know something is going to happen and I will have to quit the game.
What do the pages even say? I get the feeling I'm going to have to look that one up. It's not something I'll be finding out by playing the game, that's for sure.

Re: Slender
They're a bunch of drawing and short messages relating to Slenderman. They're basically insignificant-just MacGuffins used to drive the game. The Tom wrote:I don't like this game because it did succeed in scaring me. Re: Slender
I blinked at the wrong/right time on entry 60 and therefore finished the episode with clean pants. I'm still not sure whether I was lucky or unlucky.
The pages appear to basically be Alex's average scribblings. I'm pretty sure there's one with the cross-circle symbol and "OPERATOR" written on it so they aren't even trying to be subtle about it.

Excuse my ignorance, but . . . what is this? I've heard of Slenderman, of course, but I thought of it as a kind of boogeyman story. Is this actually scary? Marble Hornets? . . .
is it worth the google?

Also, very strange coincidence, but the full image of your avatar (well, same show and episode it looks like) has Slender Man in it.

Re: Slender
Ive seen videos of the game, looks rather interesting. My favorite video has to be when the guy (the player) is thinking he can get into the truck to escape slenderman and then the screen gets fuzzy and he looks up and slenderman is on the other side of the truck looking thru the window.

Re: Slender
Trying to analyse and deconstruct the fear factor of a genuinely scary medium is very difficult to do. In Slender's case it's really how the Slenderman is frigging terrifying that gets most people.
Re: Slender
Question on Marble Hornets. I've watched up to episode 6. Does it get more interesting or am I just dense?

It does get better. Also, you may find people more willing to talk about Marble Hornets in the thread dedicated to it.

I have to wodner, if no one ever had the hype would they be as scared? the "supense" so to say
I got in to it by a freind saying "here play this"
No idea what it was...
Did not scare me, but I was not thinking "this is going to be the most scarry thing ever"
Idk, kind of sad I WANT to be scared, loved to be scared...
