Has the radiation actually spread to Europe and the likes? Is the entire planet a rad-wasteland? Or is it just the US? AFAIK, the dirty communist chinese only threw bombs on US...

The Entire World went into World War three for two hours. The Raven wrote:Has the radiation actually spread to Europe and the likes? Is the entire planet a rad-wasteland? Or is it just the US? AFAIK, the dirty communist chinese only threw bombs on US...
And nobody won. Nobody also knows who fired the first shot.
Why? Tactics was pretty good and more adherent to lore than Fallout 3. I mean they got damn-shoeorned everything in there. They didn't think of anything original besides 'Chinese wur in 'Umrica!"I was hoping more for a declaration of 'Tactics was all lies, we're setting 4 in Chicago' but Boston's a pretty good setting too. At least it'll make things less convoluted when they inevitably shoehorn the BoS in there somewhere.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Europe was royally messed up even before the nukes thanks to the Resource Wars that took place there, and it's implied that most of the civilised world was nuked at some point or the other. We know that the British Isles are still possibly capable of supporting life (Moriarty and Tenpenny, but that's a big maybe) so who knows what they're like? London would make a great setting if they ever did move to Europe.
Re: Fallout Series Discussion
London is another city that is over exposed. Fallout 4 could be set in Australia, Sydney has some iconic buildings and nearly every creature in Australia is poisionous.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I dunno, Australia seems like too much of a departure seeing as I don't think it's ever been mentioned before in Fallout canon. And while I like the odd moustache not being able to turn them off in character creation will get a bit annoying.

Let's go back to Shady Sands!
Then hop a quick trip north in a highwayman and become a prizefighting [&@%!] -star mafioso. Steal some old man's oxygen tank and dig up some ghouls at Golgatha. Maybe find the entrance to an abandoned base with an intact vertibird underneath an old gas station ...
Maybe we'll have to wait for that in Fallout 5 (2 + 3)

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
In the end we gotta stop shoe-horning Enclave and BOS.
EDIT: Also, I think Europe is still pretty much messed up. The fact Tenpenny and Moriarty exist kinda defeat the the whole existence of a nuclear apocalypse and we're in a post-apocalyptic wasteland where technology is scarce and everyone has to survive the hells.
Honestly Moriarty seems more like he came from a may-be Irish-Americans. But I dunno. Seems lore-breaking, I mean in the first game one of the player options would be a Russian female who was descendent of a diplomat/consulate who was in Los angeles at the time of the Great War.

I put a big maybe on Moriarty and Tenpenny because I think they're intentionally meant to be Americans posing as British Isles-landers. Moriarty's accent in particular is obviously put on.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
That, and it'd be really breaking the entire lore for someone to move across one continent to another. That even suspects that people can construct or reactivate old Great War shipping technology.
But really either way - they're characters be odd. Tenpenny somehow has a large amount of money to actively pay mercenaries to work for him, trying to reconstruct this eh building at the otherside of nowhere and maintains both a water supply and a food supply.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
He's clearly got a lot of cash to keep that place running, but who's to say how Tenpenny made his money? What I can say is that his accent doesn't sound authentic, but then the game was made by Bethesda and with all due respect to them, that means you have to wonder whether the character or the voice actor is the one faking it. Same goes for Moriarty, he was voiced by the guy who did all the ghouls so it's clearly fake.
The rest of the world was involved in the resource wars, so they were probably mostly blown to hell. The UK is a small place, you'd only need a few bombs to take it out. And for those places that escaped at first, they may have found that background radiation levels suddenly jumped around October 2077. No, I don't think there's anything much to be had abroad. The US is big enough that we aren't going to run out of places just yet, and the factions will want to be taking the cities for themselves.
I get the feeling I'm just repeating things I've already said. On that note, have you guys played New Vegas yet? It's awesome.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
I've played 3 and New Vegas and love them.
Bethesda HAS to do a game that explores post-apocalypse Canada, or anywhere (everywhere?) in Europe or Asia or...Anywhere, really. And no, not just in an EXPANSION. That would be total sh*t. You can't even begin to explore the depth of a whole other world in the Fallout Universe in just a little DLC kit. No. We need Fallout: Land of the Rising Sun or something, gaiz.

I say yes to Bethesda doing more testing and no to moving Fallout out of the USA.

Why not? There has been only speculation on what the rest of the world is like. Aren't you curious about if China even remotely survived? If there are mutated bears on tricycles while juggling in Russia? No curiosity at all?

Well the US did annex Canada so I guess you could set a game in Montreal while technically staying in US territory... If you're going north I would say Detroit though. Fallout could benefit from a bit of urban grimehouse. Or they could get really gutsy and stick a game in Anchorage 2277. That would shut those damn NCR soldiers up.

Modern politics do not apply to the Fallout universe. In that timeline the USA could [&@%!] Canada up without really trying and face virtually no foreign repurcussions.

FWIW, in fallout 2 you can reach the Enclave's oil rig by repairing and sailing over on a pre-war shipping vessel so I don't think boats are out of the questionVelothi wrote:That, and it'd be really breaking the entire lore for someone to move across one continent to another. Re: Fallout Series Discussion
In Fallout 2 you're given a wider scope of technology, which in-itself is almost lorebreaking because NO technology worked outside some Vaults and the Master's stuff in Fallout 1.FWIW, in fallout 2 you can reach the Enclave's oil rig by repairing and sailing over on a pre-war shipping vessel so I don't think boats are out of the question
That and I assume (from my memory) that is one of several ways to get to the oil rig.
Ghouls suck in Fallout 3 Regardless. Now Set in Fallout 1 or Harold? Those are [VEHK]'ing ghouls.Same goes for Moriarty, he was voiced by the guy who did all the ghouls so it's clearly fake.
Also Fallout 1 sets up that Canada was taken over by the US.
Fallout 3 gives us nothing really original or interesting. Oh it's da Enclave..an unrealistic Enclave that isn't suppose to exist with a super-computer as deir leader. Ohhhhhh
Gotta have dem BOS too because we're unoriginal BUT let's make em liek the BOS-Mid West in that they actually care about people but almost make them stupid in that they don't accept new-comers UNTIL WE CHANGE DIS IN THE DLC.
Yeah. Fallout 3 - also called 'The Fallout that suffered from being Lame'.
Also Bethseda doesn't -HAVE- to. The first two Fallout games were set in the same-god damn location. Fallout Tactics moved to the Mid-west. Fallout Tactics II was to set us around the Florida area. (Much better than point lookout, I'll tell you that)
Fallout EXTTRREEEEEEMMEEEE gave us a silly plot going over to China, and Russia and so on.
Bethseda would create a arse-idea.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Boston, huh? I can dig it. Want to see more of the Commonwealth and the Institute, which were teased pretty heavily in FO3. Maybe with all the cyborgs and robots flying around, scientific characters will get more value for their skill points than in the previous two games. Maybe more perks with science and medicine as prereqs, more scientific craftables and upgradables.
I'd also like to see, rather than a totally built-up high tech area (Old World Blues) or uniformly grim burnt-out slum (The Pitt), an interesting contrast of each. Lawless wasteland and barrios in the shadow of advanced factories and arcologies, etc. Raw juxtaposition of privilege and desperation, and the player character gets to decide how they want to thread the needle between the different worlds.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Heavily? They got a single quest as I recall in the vanilla game. Then some references in Point Lookout. If you call that teasing then In Richard III the entire play was teasing on the fact the Yorks and Lancasters were Houses.
If you just throw in scientific achievements and this supposedly utopian exterior but dystopian interior society you gotta explain stuff.
And Bethseda can explain stuff in Fallout universe as much as 50 Shades of Grey can explain what love is.
We got robots in Fallout Tactics. We're suppose to be living in a nuclear apocalypse where not even half of the population of America survived, most didn't heed the warning and none of the Vaults had any real communication with each other due to Vault 0 not being activated properly.Maybe with all the cyborgs and robots flying around, scientific characters will get more value for their skill points than in the previous two games.

Re: Fallout Series Discussion
Fallout 1 was set well over 100 years before Fallout 3 on the other, more heavily damaged side of the USA and was made by a different company with a more conservative aim for future installments. I'd much rather Bethesda stopped trying to pander to the old crowd and/or stopped pretending they're better than Obsidian a making the actual world beyond the engine, but kudos to them for trying to do new and interesting things with the series like the Commonwealth, assuming those rumours are true.

Yeah, you could also fuel up the plane and FLY there if you don't mind making friends with crazies. And in San Fran there was another people led by a super computer.
I don't really understand how Fallout 2 could be 'lorebreaking;' it's as cannon as we can get as far as sources go. And there would have been more tech in Fallout 1 if the military base wasn't hit directly by a nuke (and the Necropolis at least used the same water chip technology as the vaults). San Francisco didn't have the same fate
Just saying ... people sailing and flying over the ocean and being led by super computers seems, while unlikely, not lorebreaking in the Fallout universe
