Problem with loading saves

Hey. I have this great problem with saves, I can't seem to be able to load them decently =/

It's kinda hard to explain, but for example:

I recently got Dawnguard and took save file number 165, which was the last one with my mage character. After passing the entire questline, as you can imagine I had to save and stop playing and then reload the save. I used the "continue" thingy, and I had no problems.
But I've created a new character, and I wanted to try something with the old mage character, and the last save I have of that character is the save 165 =/ I lost every thing since that save...

Could this be because of Quicksaving? I pretty much only use quicksaving =/

I don't know if this applies to PCs, but on 360, the creation of a new character will "overwrite" the last save of the previous character. The general consensus is that you should make a duplicate Save of your old character before beginning a new one.

It says he plays on PC, and if I am reading this right, are you saying when hou finished the dawnguard questline you saved via quicksave? If so then that is why it is gone, evey time you quicksave it overwrites the last quicksave.

I know he's playing on PC, which is why I said I didn't know if the info applied to PCs or not. And from what read in the original post, I thought his concern was losing the Save file of his previous character, which is why I talked about the creation of a new character hijacking the last save of a previous character.
