I'm On Chat! Get In Here With Me!

[Musicman247]

Seeing as we have lots of people using chat nowadays and many of them using the General Discussion Thread to make their "join me" calls, I thought I'd start a thread. So this is dedicated to letting people know you're on the chat and would like to....chat.

The Basics

Link to Chat: UESP Chat

For those of you who have never been on the UESP chat before here is a basic guide for how to use it.

Rules

• Chat rules are the same as forum rules as far as content. We ask that you treat one another with respect and not be annoying.
• Keep your nickname similar to your forum username and try not to change it too often

Nicknames
We ask that you choose a nickname that is at least similar to your UESP Forum username. If you are logged in to the forums before clicking in to the chat room your username (or variation) will be selected for you.

We recommend registering your chat nickname so no one else will be able to use it. Steps in spoiler tag.

Spoiler:

1. Sign in to the chat with your preferred nickname.
2. type (or copy/paste) in the chat textbox the code:
/ns register your_password yourName@yourMailProvider changing "your_password" to an actual password and "yourName@yourMailProvider" to a working email
3. Check your email and copy the code sent to it by Xertion
4. Paste the code in the chat text box and submit it
5. Your nickname should now be registered

From now on when you log in it will ask for your password. You will need to type: /ns ID your_Password (where your_Password is your actual password) to be able to continue using your nickname

Nicknames reset if not logged onto for 60 days, so be sure and visit the chat often!

Text
There are several options for text found under the textbox at the bottom of the screen.

Smilies: Shows a list of smilies that can be used
Colours: Shows a list of colors that can be used for text
Translation: Allows your text to be translated into other languages or the same done to incoming text
Pastebin: Gives you a larger area in which to paste large amounts of text
Minify URL: Lets you shorten a URL for the chat

Moderators
Chat Moderators have either a star, a key or a house next to their name in the list on the right-hand side of the chat window. They have the power to kick you off of chat or ban you from it completely, so act responsibly.

Language
Since the UESP chat is official it does have a language filter. It does not filter your own text from you, but it filters it for everyone else.

Advanced Commands

Private Channels
Anyone can start a private channel by typing a # followed by whatever you want the channel to be called.

#newchannel

Join a Private Channel
You can join a private channel at any time by typing

/join #newchannel

replacing "newchannel" with the name of the channel you wish to join

Invite to a Private Channel
While in a Private Channel you can invite other people who are online to join you by typing

/invite username

replacing "username" with the username of the person you wish to invite.

Invite Only Mode
While in a Private Channel and having Operator status (a star) you can set the channel to be invite only by typing

/mode +i

This will prevent anyone from entering the channel without an invitation

[Believe]

I'm here, but not on the chat.

Mainly, this post is just so that this thread shows up in my "View your posts" tab.

Believe, out.

[Derp53]

i was on chat, now i'm not

[Frost Mage]

My god... Musicman, you're a practical genius. Why didn't I ever think of this? /boosting his ego

[Br3admax]

What's the big deal with chat?

[Stormborn]

I don't use chat but approve of this thread.

[Musicman247]

What's the big deal with chat?

It is a place where you can socialize in real time with other UESP members. Most of the time it turns into a time of silly merriment, but there have also been times where the topic shifts to something a bit more tangible like ES lore or a sporting event/team. It's just a cool place to go!

[Stormborn]

Really, I thought it was just for insulting people. Might take a look.

[Believe]

Really, I thought it was just for insulting people. Might take a look.

That's only when I'm there.

You're really missing out Stormborn, if you thought I was funny here, you won't Believe how great I am in the chat.

/self ego-boosting.

[M.C.Marcellus]

I'm on for the next 30 minutes.

[Abel]

It seems I have a reputation of always being Idle, because people join in, see me and Elchzard (who IS always Idle), and they leave again. D:
Just to be clear, I am NOT Idle. Most times I'm just gaming but just mention my name and I'll hop in.

[Musicman247]

Shouldn't we just turn this into an all purpose chat thread, with commands and such in the OP?

Great idea! Done.

[POMC S117]

You're not on chat!

[Musicman247]

I am, actually. Lot of people are.
Edit: left

[POMC S117]

Talked with General on chat. Conclusion:

[Azura]

[Spartacus]

Almost there, almost!

[Musicman247]

I'm on chat for the next couple hours.

[Kiz]
