Orcs

Post by Warlock »

I was wondering how many of you play orcs as a main character, or just enjoy messing around with them, personally I don't like the Idea of being an Orc cos well, There mean.

Unless one likes playing Orcs from an RP perspective, there seem to be other races that fit each playstyle better....and the Orc is kind of left without a niche, other than Melee fighter, for which there are other, most say better, choices...

I'd love to be able to play a Goblin though, hehe.... :o

Exactly!

Ocato, "Hail, fellow citizens of the Empire! I present to you, our savior...the fierce Goblin berserker, Gritz Snotnose!!!"

*cheers...but mixed with murmurs of confusion...* It's bad enough they're getting saved by my Bosmer...

My opinion is that the Orcs in Oblivion look too much 'human'. I'd wish they looked more like the orcs in Lord of the Rings.
They're not even evil in this game!

I've got one Orc character. When I was out of the sewers, I went to the SI and did the entire Main Quest. However, my Orc wasn't good at using magic or sneaking around, and just fighting gets bored after some time.

So I made a new character, and a new one, and a new one...

Funnily enough, I started RPing with my first major orc character about a week ago. I'm actually thoroughly enjoying it. If you major in all the skills orcs have natural talent at - blunt, heavy armor, armorer - you actually control an immensely powerful character. Right up to level 9, I have been killing a LOT of my enemies with one sold power attack, and MOST of my enemies in one hit when I fly into a screaming rage via Berserk. That is easily the greatest major power I've ever played with.

I actually recommend having a go playing as an Orc to you. They're brilliant. 'Nuff said.

I've never played as a pure fighter. Probably never will.

I like constant fortify magicka enchantments, so I have only played as a Breton and an Altmer.

Remember how they were once just as beautiful as the rest of their mer brethren? That explains their "human"-ness. They'd probably look a bit more like Altmer or Dunmer if it weren't for the transformation of Trinimac into Malacath.

I'm gonna love running through SI with my Orc character and swinging around the Fangs after their previous (and tremendously unworthy) Orsimeri owner has his mind shredded to bits. :Twisted Evil:

I dont think they would look like the Dark Elves because the Dark Elves used to be the Chimer who had Golden type skin so they probaly use to look like that. But im sure they were High Elves though because Trinimac who is now Malacath was a High Elf hero and he was eaten by Botheia and all his followers turned into Orcs.

PS: The Orcs worship a stool

And ugly, and it is pointless to choose them as a character unless done for role playing, as mentioned above, since there are so many better choices than picking a slow, ugly, low magicka creature that is of a race that is already underpresent in Cyrodill.

I like orcs. They are the underdogs of cyrodiil, and are perfectly decent for melee. I use a dunmer as a main skirmisher(combat+stealth+a teensy bit of magic), and i am doing really well. I also think orcs have the coolest names.

I like orcs too. Big, tough, hearts of gold. My orc pure fighter daedra worshipper is one of my favourite characters. And he has a little goatee, which looks incredibly dapper.

A lot of people here are complaining about Orc appearance. Why does their appearance matter? They are literally the best pure fighters. Their 'attractive' elven cousins wouldn't stand a chance against them in open combat.

Imagine an Orc army, all troops clad in heavy armour, enormous hammers, axes and maces in their hands. Pit this army against a High Elf army of equal volume - a bunch of spell-slinging, robe-wearing mages. The elves may have high damage spells on their side, but the Orc's endurance and strength would completely devastate the Altmer as soon as they reached them.

You probably guessed I don't like mages.

Wasn't really talking about skin color, given that either way, their skin still had a visible green to it whether it was a solid color or just a tint.

Yeah I guessed that.
Ok, so we have an army of 100 Orcs, full Orcish armor, with a lot of repair hammers, potions and battleaxes/warhammers.
In front of them is an army of 100 mages. They're fast, so they can use hit&run tactics.
They can weaken the orcs from a distance with Destruction spells, turn invisible with Illusion (to get away if the orcs gets to close) and protect themselves with Alteration.
Oh, and pretend that every mage summons a Dremora Lord. Then we have an army of 100 Dremora Lords and 100 Mages.

The Orcs can repair their items, but at some moment all their repair hammers are broken.
And they might have a high armor rating and a lot of healing potions, but as long as they can't reach the mage's, they just get weaker and weaker and finally die.

And Orcs aren't the best fighters. They're good at Armorer, Blunt and Heavy Armor, but that's it. A Nord of Redguard starts with a higher strength.

Ok time for some totally unnecessary geek battle comparison :)

and what happens when they go berserk?! i think Redguard is a far better fighting maschine...

I will go further. i will imagine one elf and 100 orcs. so all are lined up and ready for battle. well the elf is just one so he can't really form a line but...

orcs go berserk and can't move or move slow. their main power lies in strength and endurance. well the elf casts a spell of drain those powers in battle area... orc are now encumbered and can't move, but their weapons are still sharp and armour is strong. time for another destroy armour and weapons spell. this leaves them naked in their underpants. they can't move, but fists are strong. well time to wrap it up with a fireball. game over.

another option is to just use paralise on them all and then beat the crap out of them...

Get that munchkin one-man wizard army crap outta here. You sound like TSR's Ed Greenwood talking about his Elminster character.

Okay... so say 100 altmer cast burden on 100 orcs (or redguards, or nords or anything else). Now here comes a volley of 100 arrows... every 3 seconds. And the wizards do what?

A mass absorb health range spell in a wide area... picture 100 masters of magick doing that.

(there's actually a book about ONE wizard doing it to an army and wiping them out... multiply that by 100)

Also, note the other suggestion of PARALYZING them. (and then the mass absorb health spell  )

I think we're forgetting that mages have limited magicka! Also, that the Altmer wizards might well be wearing elven armour. Or at least bound armour.

Honestly, I think you'd have to set it up. And then it's a matter of choosing the classes. Would the orcs be pure warriors, or would they have Marksman thrown in instead of, say, Hand to Hand? And would the elves have Light Armour instead of, say, Alchemy?

Then you'd have to run it a few times to minimise random statistical interference. And then set up an army of Bosmer and an army of Khajiit and a single baffled Imperial and recreate A Dance in the Fire.

I was under the impression it was an army of heavily armed and armored Orcs that can fire arrows against an army of completely non-armored pure spellcasting Altmeri. :P

And yeah of course they have a magicka limit... but if they all cast one spell each and the battle is over, the limit doesn't really come into play.

(And as clarification, the book I mentioned isn't exclusively about that one person casting a mass Absorb Health spell, it was about a guy that doesn't know his magicka schools bashing a guy who also doesn't know anything about magicka schools who made a speech about them... something about Dram Bero's Speech? Something like that anyway)

We were talking about Orc Warriors. Not archers.

But what about this:

You've got 100 mages facing 100 orcs.
The mages cast burden, paralyze and shock damage spells.
The orcs... do nothing.
They use potions and enchanted items and they now have 100% Reflect Spell.
Mages pwned.

But it is true that mages have options. An orc can just decide: shall I hit him with my axe or my mace? A Mage has hundreds of spells and potions to choose from.

But mages are not immortal.

Like:

100 mages vs. 1 assassin.
The Assassin, of course, tries to sneak, but some mages uses Detect Life spells. However, the Assassin stays out of their reach, and he's so good with a bow that he can even hit the mages from that distance, and without being seen.
The mages use shield spells, call for help with conjuration, etc. etc. but the assassin kills them all, slowly, one for one.

Man, reading all this has made me think how cool it would would be to have actual battles. Not something pathetic like 'The Defence of Bruma'. I'm talking like 100 on each side. But I guess no PC could handle that.

Anyway, back on topic, the mages could cast their burden spells, but whose to say the burden spell would be enough to over-encumber a creature of such intense strength? I'm talking hardened Orc berserkers here, with strength levels of 80-100. Not some rusty iron war-axe wielding guy fresh out of the sewers.

Ah, that's where paralysis comes into play. If they're paralyzed, it won't matter if they're over-burdened or not.

and basleijser, when was the last time in ANY lore whether it be TES, LotR, or anything, have you ever heard of an army of Orcs intelligent enough to have spell-reflecting armor when they charge into a battle? It just doesn't happen man!!!

And as for the one assassin, there's no way a single assassin could slay 100 pure spellcasters. An extremely skilled assassin could get maybe 5, 10 if he was lucky. Now if you pitted 20 assassins against 100 spellcasters, THEN the outcome becomes unclear.

It really is too bad we can't witness any of this actually happening in-game.

And off course all the Orcs are effing morons who randomly charge into battle without knowing thy enemy?!? And all the mages are uber, with unlimited magicka and master level skills?!?

Ever heard of planning ahead? If I know I'm going into battle against a shipload of mages, I'm going to arm myself accordingly. Soften them up with some Arrows of Silence and then chaaaarrrrrggggeeee!!!!!!!!

And as for the lone assassin against the mages? No fancy tricks or high level spells needed. Detect life & fireball. Done.

I realize that sometimes I throw around words and phrases that are a bit esoteric. For the benefit of those unfamiliar with the term, here's the Urban Dictionary definition No. 3 for "Munchkin":
The most annoying roleplaeyers you'll ever have to deal with, who characteristicly max out their stats, mostly without reprecution, play to mindlessly kill anything in their paths and boss the rest of your players around, and get as many dots or levels as possible. Most don't really develope their characters' personalities.
Note that I quoted it verbatim. The bad grammar and spelling errors are as posted.
