Actually, in my ideal world, the Russians would be in AA, and French people wouldn't exist.

Except for Alizee. She may stay.

Well, why not let those 35% bugger off then? Unless Kevin McKidd is one of them, in which case, Scotland must remain a solid member of the UK. No way Scotland's getting Lucius Vorenus.

If Scotland split from the UK it would just make a small insignificant country two smaller insignificant countries. How can that benefit the UK or Scotland. The majority of Scotland seems to recognize this and a lot of the more vocal supporters of Scottish independence don't live in the UK anyway as they are tax exiles like JYS and Sean Connery. I'd be happy for Scotland to have the max option where they have full fiscal control of their country, hell give it to Wales and Norther Ireland as well. But let's keep the Union in place.

We're insignificant you say! We are not insignificant, i'll have you know we're one of the richest countries for GDP in the world my good fellow!

In actual genuine on-topicness, I don't really think Scotland should be independent, actually I believe the union between all the countries should be tighter. Why are our national teams separate? It should always be in likeness to the Olympic squad, Team GB! We are Team GB, not Scotland, England, Northern Ireland and Wales, to hell with partitions, we are stronger together, and I don't believe they are any positives from Scotland gaining independence for either sides.

GB refers to the island of Great Britain and comprises England, Scotland and Wales. If we include Norther Ireland we become the United Kingdom, which sort of means we are excluding the Northern Irish from the Olympox. Boycott the Olympox until we field Team UK!

i think if people democratically vote for it then they should go for it, i see no reason to keep a united kingdom if people dont want to be in it

i would question (if I was Scottish) how well my country would get on outside the UK tax net however, small countries tend have to live within their means or go under as we now see in Europe, so Scotland might have to go full in with the eurozone (if it still exists) or severly downgrade expectations for services and infrastructure - oil is very nice for a few decades tho, buys some time - and Her Majesty would no doubt be prepared to offer some Royal Navy vessels to assist old Scottish allies in the security of their offshore assets..

She does have power, but she'd only be able to exercise it in extreme circumstances, such as if Britler got into power and tried to pass an Enabling Act which she could veto.

I really despise the hate for England that some people in Scotland have. I don't understand it. I don't care if our ancestors where killed by the ancestors of people in England. If they actually studied history and not some biased report you would find that a lot of so-called English troops were bolstered with Scottish loyalists when they fought the Jacobites so using their logic they should hate other Scots.

You would be hard pressed to not find where one country (or group of people) were not killing other people, and trying to take their lands. You could spend you life hating people for what their ancestors did to your ancestors (and your ancestors did to theirs), ...or you can get over it, learn from the mistakes of the past, ... or continue to repeat them?

Hate never corrected, or improved anything, ...it only makes it worse.

Maybe if people stopped worrying about their identity and independance, and tried to work togeather as a people of the world, of Great Britan, the United Kingdom, the European Union, the Untied Peoples of the World... then maybe the world would not be in such poor shape.

i agree, and i would echo POMC's dislike of people who 'hate' the English (or whoever) from some notion of past misdeeds, as if the red coats trashed Edinburgh last weekend

hate though, killed Gaddaffi, not the promise of Democracy. Similarly, the anger and hatred for the old regimes are fuelling the Arab Spring. Imo the hatred has been channelled into a fight for democracy but it's definitely there

we need alien contact, a zombie apocalypse, or other equally universal realisation that we are going to be extinct in the forseeable future to make us decide we're all humans in it together and should get on with it

in fact i firmly believe that our fondness for Walking Dead type shows is borne from a profound desire to get rid of all the twaddle of arguing viewpoints, politics, religion etc and go back to basics (slightly off topic)

It's unnecessary hate. Another point against independence is that some supporters seem to have this notion that they are unable to be both Scottish and British. It's as ridiculous as thinking that being European is an arbitrary override of your Scottish identity. It's idiotic. Can I not be from the Central Belt and be Scottish at the same time? Of course I can.

The problem isn't in classifying yourself as something, it's in accepting the political authority which such classifications places over you. You may be "European" in the sense that you live in a continent called Europe, but that doesn't mean you necessarily want to be "European" in the sense that you want a sweeping megastate comprised of various different groups claiming ownership and ruling over you. I mean, who in England would want to be lumped in with and controlled by the French?

Scots don't want to be Scots because they can't wrap their tiny, provincial minds around a concept as simple as hierarchical taxonomy (although this may be part of it). Rather, they want to be Scots because they don't want other Britons extorting the fruits of their labor and running their lives for them.

Look at Ireland, Poland, Most colonial settlements and so forth.

It's not that they can't be "Both British and Scottish" - it's that they're restricted from being actually Scottish like we Irish we restricted from being Irish. We didn't have the right to be a self-determined nation, nor to really be 'Irish'. We had to submit to the British laws, the British coming over and being colonial overlords as well as them using the whole Protestantism as a way to agrivate the Irish peoples into dividing amongst themselves. Also a way to 'Britishize' the Irish.

Give the Scotts they're True Independence. Not some psuedo-Independence crap.
