Jesus, Doris..you're allowed to lament these victims along with the victims of other tragedies. If you actually cared, and weren't simply trolling, you'd start a thread for each of those tragedies, yourself.
You can't blame the layman, or those who simply weren't there, for what the media doesn't report.

Re: Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting
I'm going to have to side with Doros on this one. There's too much [&@%!] going on in the world every day for us to care about all of them. And it's not like our sympathy is going to make any difference. Sure, a non-terrible human is going to feel sadness when confronted with tragedy, but being exposed to more tragedy doesn't make us better people (if anything, it'll just desensitize us).House of the Wolf wrote:Jesus, Doris..you're allowed to lament these victims along with the victims of other tragedies. I meant to say "One of the worst things in Colorado" I should have been more clear about that.

Re: Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting
I'm watching news coverage of it now, and it's way crazier than I initially heard. They just interviewed 2 survivors which I found to be completely tasteless. The interview had questions like "how lucky do you feel right now" and "how close were you to the shooter". It kinda disgusted me.

Well, if he thought that he could scare people off the Batman movie, he is grossly mistakened.
Some people are just sick. They don't need a reason to go killing people. They'll just do it.
He's one sick [&@%!].
And reporters have always been tasteless. After any horrific event, they'll go to one of the survivors and ask how lucky they are to be alive, as if this whole thing was a big lottery event instead of a tragic, horrific event.

Re: Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting
Erm, why would I start a thread for the victims of each of those tragedies? You DO realize that I'm arguing against caring, or at least, against appearing to care too much, right?House of the Wolf wrote:Jesus, Doris..you're allowed to lament these victims along with the victims of other tragedies. If anything, it should be the folks who think this is a gut-wrenching tragedy that should be starting threads on those topics, not me. Yes, you're right, if they actually cared, and weren't simply "trolling" (funny how that word is meaningless these days, huh?) then they should also be caring about all the other stuff which they fail to mention and/or make threads about. Tragedy is tragedy, right? A dozen people dying in Middle America, a hundred dying in central Africa, should all get the same tears, shouldn't it? But they don't. Why?
Because people (and I'd include myself in this) aren't really concerned with body counts and human tragedy in and of itself, they're just emotional and overreact when their attention is called to a single sensationalized event. This'll be forgotten within weeks, days, hours even, and we'll go back to being blithely oblivious to the world again. Why lie and pretend otherwise?

Hahahahahaha. Once again, the Onion proves why it's the only news source worth listening to.

Re: Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting
Why should they pull the trailer just because it has a theater shooting scene? Pulling it isn't going to help those killed and injured in the real theater shooting, and I can't see how not pulling isn't going to hurt those who were killed or injured in the theater shooting scene.Frost Mage wrote:This is disgusting. Re: Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting
Its terrible, its a tradegy etc. Once again the media are looking for a scape goat, seems their going for Batman comic books now (at least in the UK). Next we will get in to how the shooter was a loner with a history of mental illness and his parents had marital problems and he listened to heavy metal and liked violent vidoe games. Maybe they should actually point out the millions of people who fall in to their easy catergories but don't go on a rampage.
It's terribly sad for the victims their families and friends but everybody else should just butt out, that includes Barrack Obama and the numeorus politicians that will be beating down peoples doors to look like they care.

I talked about this with a couple of friends yesterday, and one of them insisted that the gunman had styled himself as the joker.

Re: Aurora, Colorado Theater Shooting
This never stopped me from viewing this movie, I'm not letting an insignificant gnat like this stop me from enjoying a movie I wound up loving.
What he did was horrible, but I will do my best to disassociate him with this movie. He doesn't even deserve the attention, all it does it make people with a similar mindset, consider being copycats. Which is why the widespread attention actually makes me mad, don't immortalize him, let him be forgotten.

I didn't like the movie that much either, but that guy went too far.
Also, I read an article on the homepage of a super unreliable Danish news paper that his reason for his rampage was the size of his... you figure it out.

It's not necessarily complete rubbish. It's been pretty much establish by now that the Unabomber did what he did because of gender insecurities.
