If we can please get back to the topic at hand I'd like to describe why it doesn't matter whether or not we have red or white wine with fish. The true facts are that nobody cares, and you shouldn't drink red wine because it's a rip off. You can get vinegar at far lower prices.

another false equivalency, red herring and straw man
Stop naming fallacies where there are none to be found. Pretending to know what you're talking about is just that - pretending. I'll go back to ignoring your inane rambling after I address this, but how was his argument a false equivalency when he didn't say they were equivocal? He compared them. And that's because the steak analogy works. As I mentioned earlier, people weigh the health risks from an action against the enjoyment it will bring. Eating lots of red meat will increase your chances of developing stomach and colon cancer, but most people think it tastes great, and is worth it. That's all there is to it.
no, steak is not equal to alcohol and is not equivalent. comparing them does imply an equivalency.

Everything can kill you, why worry so much? that poison sure does give a nice feeling. Do people avoid eating steak because of the heart problems it gives? no... no they don't. Steak is bloody delicious.
oh, and as a matter of fatc, yes, they do. they're called "Vegetarians" and "vegans" ...

Alcohol is underrated as a social tool. People seem to be convinced that it's only use is as a drug that damages bodies or as a tool to get drunk - but for someone like me, who doesn't function well in everyday society, it's a powerful tool to meet people, and to allow me to have the courage to do so. If you want to abuse a drug, it's your right to do so, but don't presume it's only use is abuse. Just because someone else lacks discipline does not mean I do, nor does it mean any substance that can be used to get intoxicated only has use as a source of intoxication.

Except his was pointing out the grease in steak, not the alcohol.
So replace the word 'joke' with 'point' and it makes sense.

sure it did. keep spitballing...

I don't think a spitball has anything to with alcohol and
Look I've tried to be subtle about getting this thing away from the ad hominems and I've tried to do it in a nice, pleasant way but if that's not going to happen I'll lock this thing and go to bed. I'm very tired and I genuinely do want to convince people that red wine is the work of Satan.

You must be getting some terrible red wine if it tastes like vinegar, Tom.
I've been exploring dessert wines in the last year or two, and unfortunately my boyfriend has become a big fan of brachetto d'acqui. Yeah, it's tasty, but each bottle of the brand he likes costs about twice as much as I'd pay for a bottle of table wine, and he goes through them at a quick pace. To the point where it's about a fifth of our total supermarket expenditures.
I've tried to push him towards cheaper moscato d'asti but he insists that it's not even close in taste. Any suggestions?

I wish I could offer up some suggestions...but my wine knowledge really isn't up too snuff...I just recently have begun to aquire a taste for "good" and "bad" wine...Good wine can get pricey though
aw, I'm crushed ... now can we get back to the topic and quit trying to make this about me like the mod said?
I brought up a topic and instead of addressing the point, it gets twisted and misrepresented as something else and I get demonized and vilified in the process. what gives? is the topic really THAT uncomfortable to discuss or even fathom?

Sorry, sir, I'll try not to offend your sensibilities.
After all, if the moderators allow something, but you don't, then it's clearly they who are in the wrong. You are an authority on what others should and should not post, after all.
What I said goes for everyone. And stop bloody greentexting, chevrons aren't a replacement for punctuation and syntax!

Probably. We're the kind of people that order the second cheapest bottle on the menu, so I haven't had much time to sample the wider wonders. I did have Claret once, actually. It tasted like white wine so I figured it was easier to just cut out the middle man and go back to dry white.

I must have been looking at the wrong post. I'll let this go on... for now. /back-seat-moderating sarcastic [&@%!]

You want cheapish but tasty red wine? http://www.chileanlegend.com/wines/carmenere you can find this in most shops, it's bloody amazing for the price. Hell, it's like half the cost of a brachetto d'acqui... meaning you could buy two, which is a fantastic idea.
In fact, check out that entire website. Lot's of reasonably priced Casillero del Diablo wines on there for all different occasions.
