Re: Your favorite playstyle
On my latest character, who is now lvl 32, I use all three combat forms although it's mostly like 40% melee 45% archery and 15% magic. Main skills are restoration archery one-handed and heavy armor. Minor skills are speech all 3 crafts and sneak. So much fun being able to use all three combat forms effectively for any situation at hand. Just completed dawn guard last night and now about to do the MQ.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
I use everything. Seriously... Since there isnt any medium armor, like their was in Morrowind I improvise.
Heavy Armor, light boots and gauntlets. A hood. I am amost always muffled or invisible. I conjure my weapons, pretty hard to pin an assassination on a person without a murder weapon
. I use a bound bow laced in stunting poison (magic for mages, stamina for warriors, slow for anyone) and fire from the shadows. Then I summon a body to fight for me (deadra or undead depends on the enemy and availability). While they fight I summon mage armor and pull out my board, if I can regenerate enough magic I'll pop off a few frenzies before they get to me, or paralyze for those real annoying baddies. Draw a blade and put them down. Flames and Regeneration are used when needed. I moderately smith just enough to sharpen the blade a bit. And I use the bound weapons to get souls for enchantments. I only use 2 handed if I have the Ebony Blade. And I am a masochist and play on Master...

On my favorite character, I go with light armor (specifically the Guild Master's Armor with the Diadem of the Savant) and two swords (Daedric), fitting in to a sort of mixed Warrior/Thief style. I focus more on actual combat than stealth, though.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
It's not an easy question. As a dutiful stealth player in Oblivion, I was disappointed that after 6 years there were no new stealth combat features. Like the modified arrows mod. The use of torches in that East Empire Thieves Guild mission was very well implemented. I hope to see more of that, but for now since I feel playstyle revolves around combat, its a bit lacking. That being said I haven't learned any cool poisons either so who knows. Arrow headshots would make the stealth just right. Daggers too slow as well.
Anyway, I selected Warrior. Regular combat is what I really look forward to when I turn on the game. The feel of the hammer. There's a certain weight to it that's nice. What people fail to realize is it's not about the quality of your weapon, but your skill in using it. I really like that. Despite being a warrior (bear with me) I have no interest in a Companions style 'good guy' warrior. I'm under The Thief birthsign and I use my hammer to beat down bar owners who don't have enough money to buy out all my mead.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
Imperial Battlemage or Dark Elf Witchhunter!
Battlemage: Hurling lightning and fire, while wielding a sword in one hand, and summoning daedra while having the ability to heal your self while wearing heavy armor is amazing!
Witchhunter: Relying on Bow and light armor, while summoning Daedra's, Supporting yourself with Poisions/Potions, Alteration spells for paralyze and extra armor in a heavy fight, and restoration for healing.
I also enjoy pure mage or pure warrior, but they get boring after a while.
Usually play Stealth character after i'm bored with everything else. The dark brotherhood has the greatest plot of any guild, but i find it hard to be a "Hero" in the game, when playing either an assassin or theif.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
Most of my characters use mixed skills, but looking at my three favourite characters, there's a sneaky thief/assassin, a hybrid using stealth and archery but switching to sword and board at close quarters (and kicking ass in melee) and a pure mage who also relies on stealth to get the first shot in any given situation (if slightly less than the two others), so stealth is pretty much a constant. (I've recently made an honourable two-handed / heavy armour guy who is forbidden to sneak-kill as a challenge to myself, which should tell you how much I usually rely on sneak kills.) To put it simply, thief/assassin with mage as a close second.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
My characters are hybrids, so I voted "Mix". They are stealthy, but one is a stealthy summoner/illusionist, and the other is a stealthy destruction warrior. Future characters will also be stealthy hybrids, I'm sure.
I like to combine offensive magic or melee with a stealthy style because I want to assess a combat situation before the fighting starts and try to get an early advantage, if possible. Not a fan of charging in. This was especially important for the illusionist/conjurer because she became a bit frail during the mid-levels (30's to 50's) when I was putting a lot into magicka and not much into health, but the enemies continued to get tougher. Eventually, I beefed up her health, but I still try to stick to the stealth-mage style. The destruction warrior is hardier, but she is a jack-of-all-trades who is also taking speech perks, so her skills are spread a bit thin - so it's still a good idea to be stealthy and gain an early advantage.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
I chose a mix, my favorite is a warrior/assassin hybrid, so i guess you could call it a scout or ranger. I use a combination of dual-wielding and marksman
Basically what i do is try to keep both skills equal, right now they're both hovering around about 90.
Other skills are:
-Light Armor, (only 54) I'm very good at not getting hit at all in single combat, a benefit of light armor. And when I come up against multiple foes I tend to just take them out with my bow. The result is I hardly ever get experience for light armor, and it's a flaw in my playstyle. (especially as i run around in leather and penitus-ocalattus armor)
-Smithing, (75, probably half from skill training) Gotta get that damage and extra protection. Another skill that I find hard to level.
-Sneak, (64) Very useful everywhere for the sneak-attacks and getting into a good position before a fight. I'm perking-up the right side of the tree. (what I think of as Offensive Sneaking, as opposed to Evasive Sneaking.)
-Alchemy (54) Poisons, potions, money maker. Also fits with the Ranger theme.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
Traditional ranger type generally, but my current Dragonborn has been going a different route. What began as a very basic 2 handed, heavy armor warrior has kind of morphed into a hit and run archer type. This was initially to help with dragons, as I can't aim shouts very well it seems, but has become great fun as an overall tactic. The steed stone and lots of stamina are musts, as sprinting is my main defense against enemy arrows and spells. As a bonus, a 2 handed sword looks really nice with a quiver of arrows. (it looks like its held in the quiver instead of magically stuck to your back)

Re: Your favorite playstyle
I didn't vote, since I don't tend to stick to one playstyle, I like to try it all.
I intended for my Oblivion character to use a mix of archery and magic, but she's ended up turning into more of a jack-of-all-trades.
I have one character in Skyrim I've been playing as a pure mage, which has been fun, and I can always go with ebonyflesh + bound sword when I want to get up close and personal. Mostly destruction, conjuration, restoration and alteration.
I've got another more stealth based character who operates more as a sniper, picking things off across the room from a hidden corner with a bow, making much use of the eagle eye perk, and dual-wields a sword and dagger when she has to. Light armor, archery, one-handed and smithing.
Lastly, I'm thinking of starting a new heavy armor wearing 2-handed wielding character to do the Companions questline simply because I've never tried it before, and my other 2 characters don't suit the Companions or Lycanthropy very well.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
I end up doing everything, but a character generally starts and ends, A full blown Ice Mage.
Magic in general i just get much more immersed into skyrim with, Sure the battles the Mages Guild storyline has, is fairly weak, all that happens just blows my mind
I use any Ice type Destruction spells, along with any Atronach that would assist the best in the particular fight. As far as the other two destruction elements are concerned, they fell either generic or blech, Lightning is awesome in thought, but in execution i find anything other than sparks, to be inaccurate, and sparks is the low level version, so no use there. And Fire, just the thought is very bland, Flames, thats just a flame thrower, Firebolt . . . didnt RO have firebolt. Fireball, oh wow the firebolt now explodes, that was a spell in oblivion too, well every spell. With ice magic, the different levels of them are atleast unique and different from themselves, and the other types of themselves, besides Runes i suppose, but come on, a Rune that explodes, and then completely drains your opponents ability to come at you full charge.
Lastly the execution of the three types against different opponents, Warriors, Ice drains them of their ability to use power attacks and run, not to mention they have to focus on healing both health and stamina then, Whereas fire, just hurts health more, they can still come at you and power attack you and most likely one hit kill you. Then lightning, I like the idea of it damaging magicka too, but its just doesn't seem needed, you render a mage incapable of their attacks, but then they pull a mace or dagger on you.

Battlemage is my favourite, tried a bit of everything and just found these to be the most fun/roleplayable/easy and I usually play as a dunmer so it fits well with the bonuses

I play warriors who have some magical ability, almost always restoration, because I honestly can't be bothered to mix up a million potions or buy potions. I'm really frugal in these games even though I have a crap ton of money.

My default playstyle/initial playthrough is always that of a thief-assassin type. However I RP as different types and experiment a lot - probably more than most. I obsessively have and start new ideas for characters, and often in-between other characters.

A mix really and also my newest.
Heavy armour and one handed sword with a conjuration spell in the other hand.
Another favourite though is pure stealth- that's my vamp.

I tend to play as a spellsword most of the time, occasionally switching to a sword-and-shield focus when the mood takes me. But I also enjoy hunting deer, so I'll often switch to a stealthier archer-based play style when I'm in the wilderness.
Re: Your favorite playstyle
A stealthy playstyle with emphasis on no range or blocking because I find bows boring and blocking a result of me playing badly.

My primary style is what you could call a Ninja-type character.
Enemies are dead before they even now I'm in the room, but if that fails I'm deadly in close range combat.
Sneak/Archery/One Hand
I try to carry around as little as possible.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
EDIT: Voted for a mix.
I call my playstyle the "hunter style". That is, I always use light armor and shoot sneak arrows whenever I can and can sometimes spend considerable time to position myself so that I have the clearest possible shot to all enemies in the area. Also, I love to strike from above, e.g. from a cliff, then reposition when the enemies come searching. The funny thing is that my military training (from when I was a conscript) is finally useful in civilian life insofar that I instinctively search for the best cover from where to shoot, and look for a place to reposition myself to even before the fight starts. I once cleared Valtheim Towers, for instance, with fast shots and scurrying from cover to cover in the cliffs on the northern side without the enemies detecting me one single time.
When sneaking fails, I use the sword (or war axe)-and-board combination. With multiple enemies I always concentrate on the weakest one first, dispatching him, then moving to the second weakest etc. This way I receive the least damage, especially since at the start of a fight I try to distance myself from the group, so that they have to come at me one by one. If I'm forced to fight many enemies in cramped quarters, I stand my back against a wall, block as many hits I can, do a shield bash, then retaliate with one quick power attack etc. With just one weak-to-medium enemy I use a fast charge, a shield bash and then savagely hack away until they fall. In a word, legwork and constant use of the shield are the keys to my melee style, since I dislike being burdened with heavy armour.

Re: Your favorite playstyle
After dozens of character starts I always seem to end up with a certain mix. Light armor, duel wielding a dagger/sword combo. Sometimes I use two swords. I use a bow if the situation calls for it but mostly for dragons. Magic tends to get ignored except for the few times a nice oil slick on the floor makes for some flambe bad guy fun. For some reason I can get into using a axe or mace with a dagger. Not sure why, I always end up back with a sword.
Two handed is just too slow swinging for me. Heavy armor while offering more protection just weighs too much meaning less loot I can haul around. Shields, well now, I got used to Morrowind's system for shields where it was all automatic if you would block or not. I keep forgetting I need to do the blocking myself now. 90% of the time I forget totally so I found it easier to just use a dagger in the left hand.
You would think I would fit right in as a thief/assassin type. Nope, doesn't happen, I'm more for rushing in and putting my enemies down fast than I am for sneaking up on them. Pretty much what you might call a damage dealing light tank that screams "Leroy Jenkins" every where he/she goes.
