Jad said nothing, and with a blank look on his face, closed his eyes and began to intone:

Imperial guard
Taken by the hand of Bal
Justice is not served

He then quietly went back to his house, and went to bed.

Leilah walked home, well aware that she was unlikely to get this opportunity again. She sat down at her desk, and began writing a letter detailing the events of the last few days, hopeful that somebody would find it some day, and be able, perhaps, to prevent Molag Bal from any further such "games".

It rained throughout the night in the village. It fell hard against the roofs, creating a crescendo of heavy pitter-patters that made it hard to sleep. For most the night passed without incident: the stars rotated through the sky, the moons rose, the rain, ever so slowly, started to subside.

For Jad the Redguard morning would not come.

He could be found left at home, which was ransacked after what seemed to be decent struggle - it is hard to tell. But what the villagers would know is that only his ghost would compose moving haikus for his fallen friends.

One wrong move separated the remaining villagers from a most gruesome fate. This was their last chance.

Leilah immediately went outside, relieved to be awake once more. But when she saw Jad's body, the weight of the day's decision weighed heavily on her. She knelt next to his corpse, speechless.

Nanza went outside, pressing a wet towel against his forehead; The Argonian spiced wine mercilessly took its toll.

Jad's body was the last thing he needed to see this morning. "Please, gods, stop this madness," he mumbled. "Why won't you make it stop?"

Beneath the villagers' feet the earth gave a short-lived but violent rumble, sending them stumbling. It seemed that Molag Bal, so close to victory, was growing dreadfully impatient.

"I voted for her yesterday, and you were right about Justice, so I'll back that vote. I just pray we're not wrong," Leilah said pessimistically. "If we are, we're screwed."

Mars took a long glance at Leilah.

"I don't trust you," he finallly said, without explaining why. He thought it was pretty obvious. "I change my vote to you."

Leilah looked hurt by this accusation. "Vote for me if you want, Mars, but it's a mistake, and a poorly-reasoned one at that. If I die today, you won't have the chance to fall asleep tonight, assuming that you're not a worshiper yourself. Because they will slay everybody who remains."

Deandra said, "Yesterday, Leilah, you said you were voting for me because I was one of the quiet ones, even though I was one of the people speaking up against Justice. I was wrong, but at least I was trying. I'm sorry, Leilah, but I am voting for you."
