Re: Government study shows MJs true potential as medicine
I just wish potheads would be honest, like Doros says. You want to spoke pot and get high? Fine, stop telling me it's for "medicinal reasons"
If you still think smoking pot needs to be justified in that manner, you aren't working hard enough for your cause. If you keep selling it as medicine, then sure, it will be legalized as medicine. It would then be strictly controlled and only available to those who need it. So, in other words, you're legalizing all your pot into illegality.
Heh.

I thought the title meant people were using Michael Jackson's corpse as medicine...weird.

I think it's really funny (read: vexing me) how you all go "Yeah, it's just those pot heads who want to get high". I take it you know enough potheads personally to draw up a demographic like that?
I have never smoked marijuana in my life, even though I've had plenty of opportunities to do so, and I still want it to be legalized. Yes, for "medicinal reasons" and personal consumption as well.

Re: Government study shows MJs true potential as medicine
But what differnce would it make ? dont people just smoke it now whenever they want pretty easily ? without any fear of getting arrested or getting in trouble ?
wouldnt legalizing it just bring unessecary attention to it ?
i have never smoked marijuana , i dont plan on doing so either , so this doesnt affect me either way .

Re: Government study shows MJs true potential as medicine
I read about people being sent to jail for possessing and/or dealing and growing marijuana nearly every day, so no. Just because it's easy to obtain doesn't mean you're safe from the law.
And why would it be unecessary attention? If there is any attention at all, it'll be either "No, this sucks!" or "Oh, so that's a thing now."

Just as a fun fact if you have ever, ever, ever, eeeeeeever, ever eaten at a restaurant in the U.S., then 75% of the people who handled your food are marijuana users.
That may explain the screwed up orders and large portions, but hey what service DOESN'T screw up these days?

And yet, despite how many are arrested every year, it's still the most used drug worldwide.

Re: Government study shows MJs true potential as medicine
I agree entirely but the medicinal argument sounds much better than "we want to get high". At least to a largely elderly and conservative government, it does. The next step after legalizing it for medicinal purposes would be full blown legalization. Baby steps.Dark Lord Cam wrote:I just wish potheads would be honest, like Doros says. While it's widely known that weed has lots of medicinal properties, studies found that LSD(both hallucinogenic and non-hallucinogenic forms of it) treats cluster headaches much better than prescription drugs and oxygen tanks.

Yeah, the studies on LSD are very interesting. I'm curious as to what will happen because of them - probably nothing, but it'll be interesting.

Re: Government study shows MJs true potential as medicine
From a legal stanpoint I see it as somehow wrong to prohibit a plant...yes a plant.
Still I would advocate legalisation if it is done not becouse of the "medicinal reasons" but becouse of industry and a reduction of the quota needed for anti drug operations. I am contratry to the legalisation of the so called hard drugs but MJ is ok in my book. Still much has been said over this argument yet I keep fingers crossed and hope that Germany and other top countries of Europe legalise the light drugs and create new work places and use them for a boost, even if small, in industry.
Now many countries have MJ already decriminalised in Europe so legalisation seems to be the next step, potheads or no. Everything that pumps money into industry is now needed.

I would begrudgingly accept its legalization so long as there were a buttload of rules and exceptions tacked onto its use, the very minimum being those that apply to cigarettes now(in the US). Also, be careful of wording. It's the most used illegal drug; the most used drug of any kind is actually caffeine(it is a psychoactive substance, after all).

It need not be smoked though. It can be vaporized and the vapor is probably less harmful to your lungs than city air. And it can be ingested. Obviously when it is smoked though, the same laws that apply to cigarettes would surely apply to weed. There'd surely be a law saying that you can't drive while high as well.Jedi Taters wrote:I would begrudgingly accept its legalization so long as there were a buttload of rules and exceptions tacked onto its use, the very minimum being those that apply to cigarettes now(in the US).

Re: Government study shows MJs true potential as medicine
It is understandable that the strict norms used for tobacco products would be applied to MJ products, including the monopoly on the taxes and distribution an hopefully new additional and stringent norms.
As a non smoker I agree with several laws in Europe, including the prohibition to smoke in public places, the health warnings on the packets and the purity checks for every brand of sigarettes. Similar norms will be applied in the case of legalisation and I belive even additional ones like the prohibition of trading products not sponsored by the state, the prohibition to sell to minors...and plenty more.
If we consider that milliards of Euros go to combat the light drug traffic and for the persecution of the drug dealers, the sudden influx of taxes incoming from legalised MJ products would be a refreshing thing for the statal treasury not to mention a profitable industry.
On a side note rehab centres would become the norm in the case of light drugs legalisation, another profitable venture.

here's an idea, we just substitute pot for the "au naturale" belladonna and hemlock mix and fix the problem once and for all.

I agree completely with these two posts. Obviously laws regulating the use would have to come into play, but it's not unreasonable to suggest they do add provisions to certain laws which ban smoking in public places/ban driving while under the influence to include the use of marijuana.Lindai wrote:It need not be smoked though. Re: Government study shows MJs true potential as medicine
I can just imagine the restrictions being put on it once it's legalized. Not to mention the corporate big-wigs going crazy to make as much money off of it as possible like they already did with cigarettes.
I still think it should be legalized, but at the same time, I do believe it's going to cause a ton of issues.
