...but does that mean that we should not provide it if we can?

Myself, I did not actualy say that it is a right. I said that we fail as a society if we do not do this. I probalby should have said at least try to do this.

Myself, I believe that we fail as a society, as long as we have Third World Countries.

Myself, I believe that we have no hope for World Peace as long as we class countries as Third World.

This is one reason I pray to not wake up every night. I do not want to live in a world where it is wrong to want others to have the basic necessities to sustain life... where people do not care about the welfare of their fellow human beings. This is one reason why I will eventually tackle a train... when I feel that I can no longer help.

It is sort of an evil cycle of sorts. It is sad that we need Health Care Insurance, but if you were to eliminate it, then there would be a lot of people adding to the unemployment issue, further worsening the economic issue. The key would be to find a way to slowly reduce the need for Health Insurance Companies, allowing for transfer to other employment area's, until we get to the point of where we do not need it.

...so whether Corporations are people or not, there are a lot of people in a Corporation to consider. We were saving a lot of jobs, in hopes to not cause more unemmployment, to not further worsen the economy, just as much as we were bailing out the Car Corporations, and rewarding them for making poor decisions, and mismanagment.

I'm very much in favor of a system in which we pay a set amount in taxes every year in order for everyone to receive basic/preventative health care. Insurance on property is something I understand, and halfheartedly agree with, but insurance on someone's health should be something done away with entirely, as companies are essentially profiting from your health, and betting on your life.

That's what happens in most countries, but basic/preventative care isn't good enough, in my opinion. Everyone should get the same healthcare - and indeed, in countries with free healthcare, where the rich get the same care as the poor, countries like Sweden, everyone lives longer - including the rich.

I was actually thinking about this, today. About whether the lives we lead are actually economically sustainable if corporations didn't do things like drive up cost, make [&@%!] products that break all the time, and basically do their utmost to keep the cost-of-living as high as possible. If we released a product that people would never have to buy again, the market for that product would collapse, and people in it would have no jobs. But then the question becomes: where's the line between sustainable economics and detrimentally high cost-of-living? How do we balance something like that, and which aspects should be balanced higher or lower than others?

It was starting to seem a bit daunting, but my cat jumped on the bed. As I was typing this post, I was petting her, and she was in pure ecstasy as she usually gets when she's being pet. She has all her needs taken care of, and she really doesn't have to worry about anything that she doesn't want to worry about. I think as long as I'm capable of providing that to an animal who can on some level appreciate it, I won't really ever get to the point where I pray not to wake up. After all, when you dissolve away all the art and science we've grown to accomplish, child-rearing is why we're ultimately here, isn't it? Furthering our genes and life itself.

It's what we've been evolved to do, but we've grown past that nowadays. There are many people who don't have children nowadays - people who choose, and people who have the decision forced on them due to economic circumstance (I recall my Dad's trip to Greece, where people were astounded he could afford to have 4 children, when most Greek citizens could barely afford one), or medical conditions. I personally don't plan on having children of my own - there's too much in life to do than to give in to a biological urge that will end up depriving me of everything else I could do, especially when the kid will no doubt take up valuable resources that could be better put to use somewhere else.

I do, but I thought it was something worth saying. Topic for another thread, perhaps.

I think whether or not your arguments opposed his wasn't something he was concerning himself with. He was just stating what he saw to be fact.

Indeed, he claimed that to be true.
