Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
I believe it is a valid point. If you ban something for causing horrific injuries that happen rarely, why not ban cars which arguably cause more deaths and more destruction. Obviously, that would be the height of idiocy if you banned cars. The Raven wrote:Seriously, you come up with the most fallacies ever.POMC S117 wrote:If you ban dogs because they cause horrific injuries then why not ban cars, buses, humans and maybe even guns? I know it's terrible that it happened but cars don't get banned for a few car crashes.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
So really this is just a thread about dogs, or more correctly, pitbulls? Pets? So a spin-off from the pets thread, I see no reason to have more than one thread concerning them animals.
I say merge!
Now for my opinion. Firstly: The dog in the video is not a real pitbull I am certain it is a crossover of two races. Secondly: Why would someone name their video that? Thirdly: Bark bark.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
The thread is about the pitbull and other "dangerous" dogs (you could include rotties and border collies, but not borzois, because those really ARE dicks), the threat they pose, and how society should deal with their menace. It's much more specific than the general pets thread; less about the pets than what a certain subset of pets represents. And the dog in the video is probably a Staffie, one of the most common subraces of pitbull. There's a wide variety of sizes, builds, and body types within the pitbull family, with different terms depending on where you live and what kennel clubs you choose to listen to, but they're all the same in the end: monsters!

You could also expand the discussion to include "why people should check linked sources before jumping to conclusions" and "the usage of cognitive dissonance and how to detect sarcasm".

I've never heard that border collies are considered "dangerous", though I haven't actually met more than one person who has one. I thought they were supposed to be extremely intelligent and obedient dogs.DorostheConqueror wrote:The thread is about the pitbull and other "dangerous" dogs (you could include rotties and border collies, but not borzois, because those really ARE dicks)

Border collies are absolutely vicious. The original Lassie was put down after she mauled Timmy.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
On the subject of "dangerous" dogs, if the dog attacks someone, then the owner should be held responsible. The dog, if necessary, could be put down as well. My mother was attacked by a bullmastiff once, and I believe that the dog was put down. I do believe that some types of dogs are more aggressive than others though, but that can be changed depending on how the dog is treated at home. If a dog does attack someone, it is probably because the owner mistreats them in some way, and again, the owner should be held responsible.
And Doros, youtube troll=successful. I really thought the video was going to be gruesome, so I didn't watch it at first.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
I can't take credit; it's a pretty common trope amongst pitbull enthusiasts. Up until recently, nearly every "dog mauls child" video had the dog doing something adorabl!yodah wrote: And Doros, youtube troll=successful. Now that Youtube's become a cesspool of Google-ified mainstream media corporate interest, it seems like the sensationalist stories are on the rise again. But the majority of animal attack videos are still "animal attacks".

Hmmm.DorostheConqueror wrote:Border collies are absolutely vicious. The original Lassie was put down after she mauled Timmy.
The most vicious dog I've ever encountered was my neighbors watchdog. Which looked like this. It was a Miniature American Eskimo and genuinely did not like anybody except their family. I was bit more than once by that dog for not doing anything. I was locked out of my house once and was waiting over there for my parents to get home. Angel (the dog's name, sort of ironic) was being tightly controlled on a leash until she accepted that I was there. She was allowing me to pet her and licking my hands and all that. Well they let her off the leash and she was still very accepting of me, until she randomly, and I truly mean randomly, just bit my leg. I'm not sure what prompted her to do that, but I didn't blame them at all since I knew she was trained as a watchdog and perhaps she saw me as a threat.

Border Collies are obedient and very intelligent dogs. Doros either has some sort of canine-phobia (cynophobia) or is just being a troll.

The carnage doesn't stop just with defenseless children, Pitbulls are notorious for mauling everything they come into contact with.

Why wasn't this in your first post, switching out Border Collies with PitbullsPOMC S117 wrote:Border Collies are obedient and very intelligent dogs. Doros either has some sort of canine-phobia (cynophobia) or is just being a troll.
Doros isn't a troll. He's UESP's own personal Steven Colbert.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
Pitbulls are some of the nicest and best dogs if the owner trains them right. If the owner is stupid, and the dog is trained by the stupid owner, then things will go wrong. And then, the dog will be blamed by people when the owner are the ones that need to go to prison. Shouldn't the parent of the child of not allowed the mauling to occur? Should the owner be able to train the dog the right way? Now, the dog is going to be killed, because of what he was raised by.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
The parents of the child shouldn't have allowed the mauling to occur? I don't think they stood idly by whilst their child was being devoured, but that's an awesome argument. I'm going to stab a man in the face, then blame the police, since they let him near a dangerous person like me. I'm sure that'll stand up in court. The judge is going to feel so silly when he hears my defense.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
Humans actually are animals, but sure, I'll accept that we're different from most others. Unfortunately, that doesn't make my analogy any less appropriate. Parents should be smart, but that doesn't mean they're at all responsible when a dog mauls their child. Are they supposed to keep their child away from all dogs, in case one of them is violent? What about all people? A mentally ill person could be far more dangerous and unpredictable than a base animal. Blaming the parents is ridiculous - but for the fact that the dog wasn't leashed, or muzzled, or whatever scenario we're imagining, the child would not have been injured.
