This is disgusting. Absolutely disgusting. How many more children need to SUFFER before America WAKES UP?! We need to tell America's mods to BAN these vicious animals before more incidents like this occur!
Discuss: Pitbulls, dangerous pets, state-sponsored animal control, media bias and it's role in shaping a distorted public perception of reality, the use of fear to create a casual acceptance of authoritarian control amongst the masses.

If you ban dogs because they cause horrific injuries then why not ban cars, buses, humans and maybe even guns? I know it's terrible that it happened but cars don't get banned for a few car crashes.

If anything they should fine the owners, and put down the dog.
If anyone just fricking wake up and treat their dog right, and tell them it's NOT okay to attack ANYONE they won't do it.

Pitbulls can't help it, I believe. They don't want to be vicious, it's just in their blood. I think they should at least be regulated somehow.

Not on my watch.
The dog had an owner. The one responsabile is the owner and not the dog.
I had dobermanns, great danes, pinchers and rotweillers at home. I kept them at arm's lenght when I knew that other dogs or people are in the vicinity. Not once in my life my dog assaulted another dog or a person for I was tought from day one that it is I the one who is responsabile for the dogs behaviour.
Thus do not blame the dogs if they have an owner. It is he who should carry the consequences of his dog's behaviour.
And I know that the pitbull in my neighbourhood, is a great dog and obbedient when her's owners call.
And you would bite too if molested. I know I would.

But seriously, the owner should always be held accountable.
Dogs don't start out being mean, they are taught to be mean.

That's stupid. Any dog is capable of vicious behavior. They are descended from wolves, after all. Just because every dog has sharp teeth and the potential to tear your face off, does that mean you wanna ban all dogs?Frost Mage wrote:Pitbulls can't help it, I believe. No. If a dog attacks a person, it's the fault of the owner. Pit-bulls have gained an undeserved reputation for being killers because of an overactive and over hyped media only interested in more ratings and not in actually telling the truth.
The owner should have taken better care, or should have had better control over the dog.

Nope, I know many people with pitbulls, some of them are the nicest dogs I've known. The assertion on any dog being naturally violent is usually a popular belief.
You simply can't stop anything of being violent due to the conditions it was raised in. Simply, stopping these acts are impossible, cause anything can cause bodily harm. Humans are more frail then we'd like to think at times.
Accidents happen, preventable or not.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
I did, but I'm ignoring the video, as there's an actual subject here that is interesting.
What I mean is that their owners are usually [&@%!], and use them like a shield. In that kind of environment, any dog would become violent. Their violence isn't completely due to their breed, but it certainly doesn't help.Dark Lord Cam wrote:That's stupid. Any dog is capable of vicious behavior. They are descended from wolves, after all. At one point in time they were the mascot for our military
They are called nanny dogs for a reason
Just ganstahs consisting mostly of drug using violence loving no will power people using them to fight and win money for street cred give these dogs a bad rap.

They don't come from wolves because every dog, from yorkie to lab is still a wolf. The domesticated dog is only a sub-species. To me, anything that can breed with a wolf, and produce fertile offspring of the same species, is a wolf. It makes dogs much cooler.Dark Lord Cam wrote:That's stupid. There's a reason why part of my discussion prompt includes "distorted public perceptions" and "fear-mongering". THESE ARE MAD AND INHERENTLY BLOODTHIRSTY BEASTS, BRED SOLELY TO KILL ON COMMAND!

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
Yeah yeah
I get really allergic when someone punts and blames the dog for an incident. Sure it can happen but not if they have a responsive owner and some training.
I have lived with dogs at my side my entire life and I am blessed with parents who both happen to be great cynologists, especially for the molosser breeds. I have attended countless dog trainings, expositions and agility tournaments where the dogs were in the hundreds, and I have yet to se a "vicious" dog.
Even with the french griffons of my uncle, all trained to hunt and as bloodhounds there was no incident so far, even when more than twenty dogs were present at the same time in the hunting grounds.
Now pitbulls are just one of the many dog breeds who gets the burnt of the media often. As one said above, it is all about the ratings so the story must be shocking. Most of the pitbulls out there have an owner and if said owner wants them vicious it is a problem. Every dog can be breed to be vicous, even a pekinese but this is a thing to blame on the owner and not the dog.

There are no bad dogs, just bad owners. I wouldn't put down the dog, just it's owner for being irresponsible. How will banning a particular breed of dog stop people having them? Banning thing has worked so well on drugs, alcohol and guns.

Re: PITBULL MAULS CHILD! Child in hospital, critical conditi
I appreciate how committed you are to satire. Pitbulls are sweet animals. As with all sentient life, behavior is completely dependent on upbringing and conditioning and individuals of a sordid past are not representative of the collective whole which is again: pitbulls are soooooooo sweet. Anyone saying ANY breed of dog is predisposed toward violence is full of crap. Hell, even wolves don't work that way.DorostheConqueror wrote:WARNING: GRAPHIC VIDEO FOOTAGE! NSFW!!!
Media is only biased on this particular breed of dog because the stereotype is that they are the breed most often used in dog fights thereby causing most of the public to be biased against the imagery thereby amplifying the otherwise negligible attempt at spreading fear by spitting out lies about how an entire breed of a species is evil. You kick that up to the human level and it's essentially racism all over again. The fact is that any breed of dog that is used as such is TRAINED AND CONDITIONED to do it. They are NEVER born that way. And when it comes to smaller things like reacting to a negative environment then reactions like biting are by no means limited to pit bulls. EVERY breed of dog or cat will react that way, as will just about any breed of any animal ever (including humans!). Good training (or in a human's case, upbringing) can overcome this reaction but then exposure to that environment with the animal forced to sit and endure it is flat out abuse and any person causing that type of situation is a terrible terrible person for doing that to an animal.
If a domestic animal is causing public problems then give it an appropriate punishment (i.e. Bad Dog! No Dinner For You!). If the problem is severe like attacking/eating someone then yes I can understand that it will most likely need to be put down because carnivores whose brains haven't developed as far as to have a frontal lobe capable of complex cognition may not be able to control their predatory urge as effectively as they need to in order to function as a domestic animal. In any such problem regardless of severity the owner carries twice the fault that the animal does and therefor requires a suitable punishment of his/her own.
On Wolves::Dogs. There's so much abundantly available research indicating how very different domestic breeds are from wolves that I don't even need to say anything else other than "yeah, they're extremely different." An argument could be made revolving around breeds like Huskies, but even then the breeding has been controlled without any additional wolf DNA for so long that it is exactly why they aren't considered part-wolf in their breed description anymore- because wolves are no longer part of the breeding process and haven't been for a while.
And I just want to make absolutely, abundantly, 110% clear: No domestic breed of animal, including Pitbulls has any sort of genetic tendency to be any more violent than any other breed of domestic animal. The notion that Pitbulls specifically have trouble controlling themselves is absurd and ignorant.
The shadow of the past never dies, so walk forward knowing you can become better than what you've left behind.
