Your pet peeves

Post by Frost Mage »

So, what are the things that really [&@%!] you off? Personally, I hate seeing people doing graffiti or "tagging", especially when they're just doing it around others to fit in. not only that, but I just hate seeing graffiti anywhere. The problem is it's a form of art, but is it really necessary to cover entire trucks and walls with it?

Anyway, since I can't think of any more at the moment, I'll just start out by saying this HAS to be something that more than one person does, not just some problem you have with a family member or friend. Begin.

My pet peeve is when people ask me what my pet peeve is...
Just Kidding, but seriously, I hate when people brag alot then try to prove it. And then they fall on their face. Its funny, but yeah.
I also really hate when I see people getting bullied. I have never been bullied myself, as Im the captain of my basketball team so I dont get much crap, but when I see this happening, I immediately go on the offense. It makes me so mad.
Nothing is true, everything is permitted.

I hate trying to talk sense with someone but they miunderstand me and then say they don't have a problem with communication.
It also irks me about people that are popular with the uppers, like my head cashier, and can get away with being a genuine betch who comes off at immature at times.
I also despise people who laugh at bully victims who are in the middle of being bullied or have been bulied because to me it's just the same as being bullied. The nice plump ones are the ones that say "So what, who cares?" Had this one jerk say that to me few years bac, then the same thing happened to him and he whined and moaned but then I told him "So what, who cares?" Then he got an entire guild after me. Then I got him banned with his dumb screenshots. Yeah don't care until it happens to you.

I strongly dislike it when people capitalize words that aren't proper nouns (or that aren't at the beginning of a sentence). Then you've got run-on sentences. I know my grammar isn't perfect, but goddammit, run-on sentences. Now, combining the two, that's even worse.

"so I was at the Store yesterday and this Woman was Talking to me about how Her cat was being Picked on by a stray so i Told her that she Should call animal control to get the Problem taken care of but She wouldnt do it Because her Cell phone was broken and her house Phone was Disconnected because She couldn't afford to Pay the bills and she Couldn't use a Payphone because she Didn't have any money and coincidentally thats the Reason she couldnt buy me Anything after i Hit her Yesterday because She made me Cry when i Said her purse was Ugly because purple and Green dont go together and her Purse was purple and green she Said she got it at walmart in the Clothes section which confused Me because purses arent Really clothes but there Accessories so maybe They could go there i dont know anything About fashion even tho i went to Fashion School even tho im only 13"

Really dislike someone who won't budge on something, or even listen. I dealt with this soo much I developed a freaking motto from it, "Those that don't listen, do not deserve to speak.".

I hate it when someone is full of them-self, even if it's warranted. I may joke about me having an ego, but I keep myself humble. No deed ever warrants a massive ego. You could've saved the entire human race, I don't care; you're still human like the rest of us.

I also don't like it when people try too hard to convey them-self. We get it, you're a rebel, you could care less, it's why you've liked 100 photos on Facebook, and wrote half that in statuses saying this. Sorta why I need to read less on Facebook.

Generic one-liners in posts, that are meant to come off as some sort of "wisdom." Except they're almost always just utterly obvious and/or banal throwaway lines.

E.g.:

"People are complicated."
"What you don't understand..." - Used when someone else disagrees.
"Lord grant me the wisdom to understand what I can change.... blah blah blah blah blah," and other trite sayings out of self-help books, popular women's magazines, or Oprah outtakes.
"That's just your opinion." - Christopher Hitchens had the best reply when some dunce shot this one at him in a discussion: "Yes, would you prefer I uttered yours?"
"At some point the fighting has to stop and we all need to come together and join hands......," and variations thereof. Yeah duuuude, free love, peace in our time, can't we all just get along, kumbaya. It's right around the corner!
"Americans are/America is/America has X," where X can literally be anything disparaging the poster concocts on the spot.

And a hundred others.
It seemed the world was divided into good and bad people. The good ones slept better... while the bad ones seemed to enjoy the waking hours much more. -Woody Allen

This. People just really, really tick me off. Especially the ignorant ones. That's why I prefer to be anti-social. Makes life much simpler. Oh, and I hate Facebook. I can understand the concept of being able to catch up with people you haven't seen in awhile, but people don't need to know every little thing that you're doing. I could honestly care less if someone bought a cow on Farmville, or is drinking a cup of coffee, no one needs to know what you are doing every waking moment.

I also get irritated when people on forums talk in texting abbreviations, not bothering to spell anything out. I mean, honestly, you have an entire keyboard. It's not that hard to write it out. (Unless said person is typing from a phone, ipod, or PSP, then I can understand.)

Someone was kind enough to tag my name in 5 foot letters on a wall very close to my street a couple of years ago. Now that is good graffiti.

Pet peeves? I have many:

-Lightswitches that are in the off position when the lights are on, and vice versa.
-Untucked chairs
-Loud people on public transport
-People on public transport
-Public transport
-The aforementioned proper noun misuse
-YouTube commenters
-Chavs
-Cam
-People that can't be anything but right
-People that assign a complete pre-judgement to you without ever even speaking to you
-People that assign absolutely nothing new to old jokes

I really, really, really hate it when people mimic my voice (except when quoting me, but that's still a fine line). I slapped someone for doing that once. So yeah, don't do that.

People telling me to do something multiple times in quick succesion. Yes, alright, I'll [&@%!] do it. Just give me a goddamn second!

Which brings me to impatience. Impatience annoys me.

Asking a question without using a question mark. "Yo, Mars, where were you today." No. No!

Misuse of terminology. Unless used in a comedic way (like most of these, except the first one.), using the wrong term for the wrong thing will end in you being verbally assualted in my head. Examples:
Scozzar wrote:People.
Not a pet peeve.
unokitsune wrote:I also despise people who laugh at bully victims who are in the middle of being bullied or have been bulied because to me it's just the same as being bullied.
Not a pet peeve.
DLC or Expansion?
Same goddamn thing.

I'd list more, but I can't right now.

People not being straightforward. Just say what you actually want to say and stop making me mad!

Forum specific:

The  smiley. Unless it makes your post hilarious, I don't want to see it.

Only posting dialogue in an RP.
Annoying RPer wrote:"Ohai, Mars."

I'm pretty sure I have a lot. Don't know if all of these count as "pet peeve" though.

People who don't cover their mouth when sneezing, coughing, or yawning.

People who call themselves "scene", "emo", "goth", etc . . . stop trying to be different. That annoys me. (especially when they write things about how much they love death and suffering and babies being eaten -- that doesn't make you "cool" or "different." It makes you a psychopath.)

The "yes, but" people. Just say you disagree.

Men that slouch in their chairs with their legs spread apart. No.

The words "dude" and "chick."

"Your" and "you're" and "they're" and "their" and "there."

Cracking your knuckles. If you simply MUST, do it in private.

Passive aggressiveness. ;)

You want a pet peeve? Here's one: Mint Tea. Not the actual stuff, mind you. What I mean is, I was looking up recipes for mint tea, and I found one called Mint Iced Tea, which had water, black tea, sugar, LEMONADE AND LIMEADE! And the mint was added AT THE END! Damnit, drink all the god-awful crap you want, but please don't give me a recipe for glorified Kool-Aid and call it Mint Tea! Also, just about any recipe for stroganoff. If the recipe calls for ground meat, or mushrooms, or noodles, IT'S NOT STROGANOFF.

People who dont see the stop light turn green because they are talking on their phone or something. Also, those people that have their seats so far back that they can just see over the dash and just reach the gas pedal. Then they accelerate so slowly that it takes them forever just to reach 20 miles/hour.

Apple really, what about Steam or Xbox?

I was going to say I don't have any because I'm some zen master type.

The way people use the word cool and like, but to honest I just ignore them if it gets to be an issue. Facebook and Twitter, but once again I can ignore that as I don't do farcebook or twatter, plus would not have Social Facepalm without them.

Couples holding hands when they walk on the pavement/sidewalk, yes your in love or want people to think you are but if you let go of each other I wouldn't have to step out in the road to get past you.

People that don't use the accelerator at junctions, roundabouts and traffic lights.

People that use the word "literally" completely wrong. "I literally am not his friend anymore." ???

What does that even mean? You didn't have to say "literally" to make me believe you.

I also hate it when people use "essentially" too much, like every sentence. It's annoying.

Ha, it annoys me when people say that annoys them. Holding hands is just fine, I like doing that too. Holding on to someone you love is a nice feeling.

On the other hands, couples going all lovey-dovey in public but closed places (such as a cafè) seriously rustle my jimmies.

I don't know why people get the impression I hate Microsoft. I don't. The XBox is an inferior product, but you can't hate someone for making a crap video game console. If anything, I pity them! Trying so hard, and sinking so much money into an utter failure.

As for Steam, Steam is high on my list of pet peeves, yes. But let's keep things in perspective: Steam is ruining PC gaming. They're also ruining brick and mortar gaming stores and leading the corporate fight against consumer resale rights and content ownership, but the damage is (mostly) contained within the gaming industry. The only thing Steam has ruined for non-gamers is the internet, but that's not really THEIR fault; it's just that Chet has a big important dayjob now and didn't have the time to keep PoE up and running. So they're maybe 20% culpable for the internet sucking, tops.

Compare and contrast with Apple, a multi-billion dollar global behemoth, run until recently by the Arch Fiend Himself (Edison Incarnate), fighting a never ending battle for Orwellian product placement, "luxury-priced" garbage, and the revocation of all consumer rights. Apple is rotten to the core, and their creeping brand of corporate evil jabs it's slimy tendrils into every orifice it can find. If it's not Apple's MK-Ultra inspired advertising agitprop, it's a new touch screen device with half the memory and twice the cost as before. If it's not Apple lying about warranties to consumers in hopes of avoiding their state-mandated responsibilities, it's Apple trying to blithely redefine the law so as to force states to throw paying customers into jail for using their property in ways that might threaten Apple's fascist control scheme. Apple is the worst company on the planet when it comes to consumer rights and respect for the public's intelligence, and yet despite this, their grotesque marketing team has churned out the biggest cult of (nominally anti-corporate and hippie-dippie!) brainwashed ad-zombies this side of Volkswagen (another company I hate). Steam's got A TON of work ahead of them if they want to catch up to the quarterly postings of Apple's Global Department of Evil and Diabolicalness.

I'm a total apologist when it comes to this speech habit. Personally I do it because I do agree with what was said, just not the circumstances or direction of the subject of discussion and I think it needs to be clarified further. Now, if the person saying it ends up going like this: "yes, but you're wrong," then that's different and very annoying/rude.

My biggest pet peeve is lack of honesty. I like to trust people and hoooooooooooooly crap do I hate it when they aren't honest. If you don't want to tell me something then please, PLEASE just don't tell me about it. I can't stand it when I find out after the fact that it was a load of crap.

If I was more aware as a consumer I'd probably hate everything Apple does, too. You don't even need to look at their terms of use, you can just look at their marketing strategy. It boils down to having a new model of the exact same product within a year of that product's initial release, and as Doros stated it's pretty much never a significant improvement over the previous model. "Hey, people! Give us your money! Ahahahahahahaha! We know you suckers can't resist the lure of an expensive product that we tell you is great! All your salary are belong to us!"
The shadow of the past never dies, so walk forward knowing you can become better than what you've left behind.
