I think that only Nords who die in battle go to Sovngarde. Other races probably have their spirits go to different pockets of Aetherius.

Re: Do all nords go to sovngard?
I think that Sovngaard is reserved for those who fell courageously in battle, or maybe for those who proved themselves in battle regardless of how they died. But I don't think all of the other nords would get in just by virtue of being a nord. They would probably go to whatever the generic afterlife is for everyone who isn't claimed in some form or another (Daedra claiming their followers, for example).

So in the elder scrolls universe "aeterius" sp is a realm with pockets like sovngard and the dead are sent to "afterlife pocket dimensions"?

Those who are werewolves go to Hircine's realm, for example.

Nords who distinguish themselves through bravery and valor enter Sovngarde. This is done at Shor's whim. The Black Weasel wrote:Topic Title. Do only the "brave warriors"go there or every nord?
It depends on the person's affiliation. If one is allied with a Daedra, one's soul often belongs to that Prince. If one worships the Divines or is neutral on matters of religion, it's Aetherius - although the jury is still out on whether it's more like heaven or a purgatory, because we also have lore of a Dreamsleeve that scrubs souls clean and sends them back to Nirn. I suppose people who worship Sithis end up in the Void. Argonians worship the Hist but I'm not sure what their version of an afterlife is.To that end, if sovngard is the nordic afterlife, where do other races "go to" when they die?
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

I think all Nords should go to heaven just like all people go to heaven and were with god and jesus and everything is great.

The Redguard equivalent of Sovngarde is the Far Shores. There appears to be very little on the various versions of the afterlife for each of the races. It could be that I'm just not looking in the right place

This is Tamriel, not Earth.
God is dead and the closest thing to Jesus was Tiber Septim.
Kinda like the real world, except there was no Tiber Septim.

I'd say the closest thing to Jesus would be Talos just because of the fact of him being a man and being raised to divinity.Pilaf The Defiler wrote:God is dead and the closest thing to Jesus was Tiber Septim.
In response to the topic, no, all nords do not go to Sovngarde.
From the wiki: "Sovngarde is the part of Aetherius where Nords go to after death. It is ruled by Shor and contains the Hall of Valor, a supposedly gigantic feasting hall where the mead 'flows like a waterfall'."
Also from the wiki: "Except in rare cases where one forces their way into Sovngarde, it can supposedly only be reached by true Nords who die valiantly or in battle, regardless of personality. This excludes those afflicted with Lycanthropy, as Hircine takes them to his hunting grounds instead"
EDIT: According to the wiki previously stated, one can "force their way into Sovngarde"; this now begs the question "how?". I'd be interested in finding out how one would force their way into Sovngarde and if there are any accounts/mentions of one forcing their way in.

Actually Padhome would be god, Sithis would be the holy spirit, Lorkhan would be Jesus, and Talos would be Jesus after his resurrection.Cloud_Nine wrote: I'd say the closest thing to Jesus would be Talos just because of the fact of him being a man and being raised to divinity.

Actually the gods aren't dead, they just can die, Shor being the dead exception.

Re: Do all nords go to sovngard?
It seems in the elder scrolls universe "death" "dead" and "die" seem to have a different meaning or effect that in our universe. Although all the Divines are supposedly "dead" during the creation of Mundus they still seem to have some amount of power and ability that something which is dead would not normally have. Giving a blessing to a worshiper would be the most obvious example.
On the opening post, Sovngarde is reserved for the strongest Nords tested and guarded by Tsun. But that doesn't just include warriors, great kings and mages are there too, take Jurgen Windcaller for example. Probably not much of a warrior but powerful with the thu'um.

The gods are alive because their mortal worshipers are puppeting their corpses.
The Aedra need worship to live, and the Daedra need worship to enter. the lack of worship is why the Star Orphans are unable to interact with Mundus except during Dragon-breaks, when worship is not needed.

The worthy dead may go to Sovngarde. The unworthy dead go to the Soul Cairn or Oblivion like the rest of the races.

Or they go to Candyland! Jeez Louise!
Dark Spark Fun Fact: Hell is supposed to be frozen over. Let's leave out Dante's version of the Seventh Circle (it is a frozen lake, after all), but the name 'Hell' comes from Nordic mythology, the realm of the unworthy dead: Norse warriors who lived peaceably and died of age or disease. Hel was the mistress of this realm, and Hel was the name of her realm. And it was everything that Valhalla was not: it was cold, dark and damp. Everything a Norseman dreaded to experience within the afterlife, having spent their mortal lives keeping such sensations away with fire and solid shelter from the wilds.

I'm not sure about the point you were trying to make.
also Lorkhan/Shor is described as ruling the underworld. Sovngarde is the underworld.

in the main quest my dunmer ranger destroyed alduin and was promised a place a in sovngarde(also promised place in the void, evergloam, hircine's hunting grounds, coldharbour, you know where this going) how does that affect my dunmer, when he dies will he go to sovngarde, or will go to aetherius where other dunmer go?

@derp53
That is one of the most asked questions and the truth is we have no real info on it.
It is assumed that Lorkhan/Akatosh/Sithis/Talos would take you into Sovngarde given your Shezzarine/Dragonborn nature.
