Cannot install DOS or direct version of Daggerfall - Vista

So I tried to download the free version for DOSBox, but WinRAR would not extract INSTALL.SCR. So no surprise it did not work in DOSBox.

I tried the direct install version, downloaded no problem and extracted. But in the installation I get the following message:

"C:\User\DAGGERFALL\INSTALL.SCR
An error occured while trying to rename a file in the destination directory: MoveFile failed, code 5. Access is denied
Press retry to retry"...etc., etc.

Anyone have an idea why this would be? I was so excited to get Daggerfall on my computer, sadly it looks leek it is not to be.

(sidenote: *.scr is for screensavers, right? Why do the install files have that extension?)

Keep trying, and if not, just remember that DOSBox isn't the only DOS emulator out there, just the most popular

there's actually some installation guides for DOSBox but also two others on this wiki, just go to the daggerfall section and got to "Installing under DOSBox" and it has some others in as well.

I could be possible that it was a corrupted download. I use Vista and play daggerfall with dosbox fine. I do believe i had the same issue as you at one point

Try using the Daggerfall Setup pre-packaged installer available at wiwiland. It's an all-in-one DosBox/Daggerfall installer and includes various bug fixes, a few optionable mods, and most importablty - DOS32A.

This is a superior memory extender that prevents numerous saved-game bugs and problems from occurring.

I've used it a few weeks now and it runs wonderfully on Windows 7.
