50 Spell Absorption + 50% Spell resist= Immune to spells?
50 Spell Absorption + 50% Spell resist= Immune to spells?
The subject says it all. If you make a Breton with 50% Spell resist and have the Atronach birthsign which is 50% spell absorption, will you be immune to magic?
Or: Would you be immune to magic if you had 34 Spell absorb, 33 spell resist and 33 spell reflect, would you be immune to magic?
Thanks

Nope. Absorb, resist, and reflect are all separate effects and act separately. Say you've got 50% of all of them (probably not possible, but just to make it easier).
50% Reflect, 50% Absorb, 50% Resist.
If you have a reflect spell effect on, that's the first thing the game processes. If the reflect fails then it goes to Absorb. If Absorb also fails, then your resistance is factored in. Reflect and Absorb are hit or miss effects. It either succeeds and reflects/absorbs the entire spell, or it fails and then your resistance is what matters.
The only way to be immune to magic is to get one of the individual effects to 100% or above. 100% reflect will always reflect spells being cast at you, 100% Absorb will always absorb the spell (unless you have 100% reflect in addition to 100 absorb, then you'll never absorb the spell, you'll always reflect it because reflection is the first effect to be factored in). If you have 100% resistance, magicka will never harm you.
So, if you have a Breton (50% resist) and then get an additional 50% resist from enchanted effects or your own spells you cast on yourself, then you can be completely immune. The only way to max reflect is through enchantments and spells, and Atronach makes maxing absorb much easier (but then you won't recover magicka over time).

The shadow of the past never dies, so walk forward knowing you can become better than what you've left behind.

Don't think of it as addition, but rather multiplication. 50% absorbtion and 50% resistance gives 75% total spell protection.Alien wrote:Darn, because it just occured to me that Bretons have 50% resist, and atronach sign is 50% absorb, and I was like 50% plus 50%=100%=
1 - [ 0.5 x 0.5 ] = 0.75
If you have 50% in all three, the total spell protection is 87.5%.
Also, Oglethorp and Emory eat their own farts. Igniknok & Er are the bomb!
And don't forget it!
