H8Ball wrote:Just a warning. If anyone is using the CMMCI (Coloured Map Markers and Compass Icons) mod v1.0, it breaks the mounted combat in Skyrim v1.6 Beta.

Cause: CMMCI is based on the Skyrim v1.5 HUD SWF (Shockwave Flash) file, and Skyrim v1.6 Beta obviously has a new SWF version with modified ActionScript to implement the crosshair only being visible while mounted with weapon unsheathed. Using CMMCI means its old v1.5 SWF as a loose file overrides the new v1.6 Beta SWF in Skyrim - Interface.bsa. The game's mounted combat works correctly, but the ActionScript doesn't, so the HUD disappears completely while mounted whenever you unsheathe your weapon. Result? No compass or anything else, including the crosshair, which means it's near impossible to aim your bow.

Workaround: For now, uninstall CMMCI so Skyrim uses the new (and correct) SWF file. As soon as I did that, the new mounted combat feature worked perfectly, with the crosshair only becoming visible while mounted when my weapon is unsheathed.

Cure: If you want coloured icons again, you'll have to wait until CMMCI's author re-does the mod based on the v1.6 SWF and uploads it to Skyrim Nexus.

It's taken me TWO DAYS of furious head-scratching and going up wrong garden paths to figure out this "fix". Just thought I'd post so that others don't have to jump through all the mental hoops I did. Logical fault-tracing isn't for the faint-hearted. It's often a case of doing an impression of Uncle Fester (from the Addams Family) bashing his head on each brick in a wall in turn until the 100W lightbulb in his mouth flickers briefly and he shouts, "AHA! Found the wiring!" then collapses.
Wow, you deserve some thanks. I don't play on PC, so don't use mods, but for something like that, you should get some appreciation.

Since everyone is focusing on TES:O, likely 5 or 6 years after TES:O's 5th expansion comes out.
it is a mystery

It's out now.... And I can't say I'm terribly impressed with the smaller changes.

The same way you get all the other patches. You turn on Steam.

They will. The only reason they put it out this early for the 360 is so the beta-testers have the foundation to work with.

As long as the PS3 gets the real, non-watered-down thing, I'm not too worked-up about not getting it first.

It's not even that great. Archery is impossible (No crosshairs) and it feels wonky. You can't do 360 spin turnaround for archery, and no magic/shouts. Sword play isn't even effective. It's better to get off your horse and kill them on foot, really.

It's the principle of the thing really. I don't care that it's horrid, I just care that it's there.
