Idk about some of you guys but in pretty every TES I played, the body of any character seemed a bit stunted in some areas and overgrown in others. In oblivion, it felt like I was dealing with talking heads. In Skyrim, it felt like I was talking to roid freaks. And Morrowind? Bodies seemed drawn to scale but they were also incredibly short.
Considering most of the people you talk/see in Skyrim are Nords,Orcs,Redguards and Imperial Legionaries I think you can understand why they are not anorexic whimps. Also,Skyrim has the best body ratio of any game I have seen in years and the last two TES's didn't do so badly especially Oblivion who had a noticeable level of quality over it's main competitors at the time (Gothic III for example).

That would make perfect sense...if it only applied to Nords, Orcs, Imperials and Redguards but I'm seeing it in Bretons, Wood Elves, High Elves, Dunmer and even Khajiits and Argonians (although, to a lesser extent), ie every race. Again, I felt Skyrim's body ratio was trash as it doesn't really hold a candle to the midgets in Morrowind (the best for body ratios of the 3). Oblivion was just ugh. Not a fan of big head mode unless it's in an FPS.

Call me critical or unrealistic but the body types they are using for the characters seem alot better than anything we have seen so far[...]

Did you mean:
Compared to former TES's?
Nah,at the moment they seem on par with Oblivion(but I'll admit,a slight improvement can be noticed).

This is purely subjective but to call it on par with Oblivion is just denial, I think. It's much better than anything TES has put out, even in mods. Even the best texture mods of Oblivion hardly compare, although, they do feel better than Skyrim's but only slightly.
or
Compared to other MMOs?
Hell no!On this front(and others) games like Guild Wars,Aion and Tera win hands down.
Agreed.

albeit, I will admit that this game probably will not have the same "leet" graphics as Skyrim simply because MMOs are typically released for access to the masses (many of which don't have a computer capable of playing skyrim)

Hm,I don't approve of scaling down the graphics for the "masses".While we can't see graphics like Crysis or Skyrim in a MMO I think that taking them to ground level limits what the developers can do with the game.
Tera, for example, doesn't follow this pattern and the game world really shows it.
It's absolutely gorgeous!

Tera has not attracted large masses compared to WoW, however. Sure, it's a good game but the minimum requirements to play it are excessively high for somebody who has never owned a gaming pc. Many people would literally have to buy a new computer to just play it, compared to WoW which was actually quite relaxed on graphics (even for 04' standards). I'm sure anybody with a gaming pc would play TERA but not everybody with a regular PC could or would do it. Just to beat this dead horse one last time: It didn't even make top 10 on Gamefaqs. That in itself states alot about the game's popularity and/or accessibility. Gamefaqs/spot has served as the measuring stick for what is and isn't considered popular for years now.
Do you want to know a really clever explanation I heard a few days ago? Here it is: This is all a fantasy within Molag Bal's realm, where he's tricking mortals into thinking they're saving the world.

Hm,I was thinking more along the lines of people not wanting to remember or having their memory erased by the Gods to forget the horrors of this event but this explanation is the best I've heard so far,Gideon. :)
Thanks for sharing.

Sounds accurate enough, especially after reading more on Beth forums.

Am i right to think that it will be placed around the time the dark brotherhood emerges? Because it seems to be about 1000 yrs before skyrim, and it would be really cool.

No one is exactly sure when the Dark Brotherhood formed, but it is believed to have been about 2e360 or so, although the Dark Brotherhood name wouldn't be used "officially" until after the end of the Potentate period in 2e431. TESO is roughly set sometime in the 2e500's, so the DB would still be a relatively "young" organization.

Um.....most of the Wood Elfs in the game are bandits, hunters or thieves.
90 % of High Elfs are Thalmor(a military organisation) or are affiliated with them.
Most of the Dunmer you find in the game are bandits, legionaries,ex legionaries, thieves etc...
Khajits are not allowed in cities and to survive Skyrim's wilderness you have to be tough. Also, they run caravans that transport goods throughout Skyrim...thats quite an exercise.
Argonians are dock workers, bandits, fences etc.In general, they have the harshest life in Skyrim.

Hm,you are also forgetting that we are talking about the home of the Nords which at this point doesn't take kindly to strangers. You have to emulate Nordish culture and attributes to survive in Skyrim.
This is purely subjective but to call it on par with Oblivion is just denial(1), I think. It's much better than anything TES has put out, even in mods(2).Even the best texture mods of Oblivion hardly compare, although, they do feel better than Skyrim's but only slightly(3).
1)If one thing can describe my point of view or general demeanour it is not subjectivety or "denial".
2)Better then Skyrim? No.Better then mods this wonderful community has put together??You must be joking.
3)This is simply not true.
Tera has not attracted large masses compared to WoW, however(1). 1)Wait....what? What MMO has EVER attracted the amount of players WoW has?I'll tell you:NONE!

2)Tera(which is great, not "good") wasn't designed to be a WoW killer and neither was it designed to cater to people with low end computers. Why?Because it wouldn't have brought anything truly new to the table. The developers wanted to make a game which had great graphics and a combat system that wasn't old and dull, even at the cost of players and subscriptions(money).
Basically they wanted to make the best game they could and considering they don't have a brand name like "The Elder Scrolls","Star Wars","Warcraft","Lord of The Rings" or "DC"to guarantee subscriptions I think thats very commendable.

3)And where is the problem in that? The new generation of consoles is over the horizon and game developers will not be limited by hardware anymore.Games will become increasingly more demanding on platforms and gamers(casual or not) will have to upgrade anyway.
It's called progress.

4)Gamefaqs is not THE unrivalled authority on games  .That honor falls on the actual players.
Tera Metacritic:83 out of 100 User score 8.0 out of 10
SWTOR Metacritic:85 out of 100 User score 5.7 out of 10 (and a severe lose in subscribers)
WoW Metacritic:93 out of 100 User score 6.9 out of 10
Tera Gametrailers user rating:9.2 out of 10
Tera Level rating:9.5 out of 10
Also, you should take a look at mmorpg.com for some reviews, machinima,AngryJoe and gamesradar to find out what are the guys thoughts on Tera.

I'm skeptical of the MMO. I probably won't buy it, despite how much Lore it may give me. If it becomes Free-to-play in the future (as most MMO's seem to become eventually) then I'll cave. I'll wait and see if it offers anything I might be interested in. The thing is I'm already kinda sold on a different MMO that has a better payment model (assuming ESO is subscription based) and that is Guild Wars 2.

I'm worried the story will screw up the lore. Has the conflict this MMO is based around been mentioned before in any of the books? Things could go really wrong (of course, they have Dragon Breaks so whatever).

Also, the voice acting in that trailer? Not good at all. Like Tim Curry except bad.
Do you mind? I'm doing the fishstick. It's a very delicate state of mind.

The following post is a touch rage-y. If you don't care to get fired up over TESO, don't read this. You have been warned, and if ticked off regardless of this warning, you forfeit all right to call me anything rude.
This post is not personally insulting in any way, and though being a bit toe-stepping at times, is not in any violation of UESP forum rules.
This post was also put under considerable consideration before publishing. The author takes full responsibility for the content therein.
Spoiler:
I got to page three and had to stop. here's why:
YOU BUNCH OF PESSIMISTIC NAYSAYERS EFFING SUCK!!! One "potentially" bad game comes along, and before we even know almost ANYTHING about it, half you grunts fresh of the teet are dropping your all time favorite series like a hot rock.. You make me sick!

Secondly, I stopped at page three because I needed to breath. Your constant pessimism and lack of faith was just drop dead (almost literally) hilarious. (I am mocking you bunch of cuss holes of course.)

There were literally dozens of things I wanted to comment on, things to bash, things to uplift, but it would have been the longest post UESP has ever seen since it's creation. AS I didn't want to devote that time to a bunch of whiners, just let it be known that I can't wait to see the looks of guilt on all you morons faces when TESO becomes a smash hit. And dont lie to yourself. Even all of you who say you "hate it"it's gonna divebomb", it sucks", or (my favorite) "WOES"; all your jerk wads are gonna try it out. Because you are curious, and perhaps even hopeful. So when you looked stunned that it is awesome, I'll be read y with my camera, there to take your humility snapshot.

So there's my dark rant about TESO. it isn't the game, to which I for one remain hopeful for and faithful to. it is about the schmuck jobs that made Bethesda/Zenimax Online Studios even question making a game like this.

Also, Frost Mage, Gideon, AKB, and any other faithful fan of UESP, thank you for remaining as such and vainly trying to cheer other pessimistic naysayers up. It is noble, but pointless. You have my respect for your loyalty to an awesome series.
EDIT:
Ever been in an argument and stormed out of it absolutely ticked, only to come up with a really great get-back-line five minutes later? Yeah, me too. In fact, I have one now.

I do a lot of thinking in my head, and even after I posted this I thought about it more. And in my thinkings I realized something: all you pessimistic naysayers out there (yes, I like that term), you guys are doing the ES series a HUGE disservice! You guys literally expect TESo to fail just because it is to become an MMO and because other series in the past have failed at this attempt. SO WHAT! Sure others have tried, and yes many have failed, but you know what, our beloved game makers aren't complete idiots. I have ever confidence that they see what and where others have failed when converting a single player series into an MMO and are actively taking measures to ensure their product doesn't fail. They do care about us, the fans, as they want to make a good game just as much as we do. I am again, quite confident that Zenimax Online studios listens to feed back and they want to succeed in this endeavor just as much as we want them too. So stop dissing their attempt just because others have failed here! Geez, where's your faith people?

And point two, Zenimax does listen to our input. And just the little bit I heard was revolting, and for two reasons. One you guys, and you know who you are, are simply carrying on about how much this game'll suck, just because others have failed in the past (see above paragraph). but aside from this bickering, you guys are giving horrible constructive criticism. Why are you concerned about how TESO turns out? is there a specific problem you have seen? Something that you think you might know how to better improve? Is there anything USEFUL you can offer other than pointless whining and [&@%!] over something that isn't even here yet? if you are going to say anything negative, be sure to include some positive with it. Didn't your mothers ever teach to "Say something nice or don't say anything at all"? I only bring this up because in the few pages I could stomach, all that was said is how much it's going to suck, and that it's going to be another WoW spinoff. Short and sweet of it...

CONSTRUCTIVE criticism people!!! Emphasis on the constructive part. it ain't that hard!

lol @ the above :) I'm not keen on the prospect because I don't like MMO's. it's just my own personal opinion and my own personla taste. If it works then cool, more power to the makers etc. If it sucks then it sucks, more likely to push zen/beth into making more single player TES games. I get a strong feeling that alot of the "haters" have some kind of assumed "right" to be fans and that TES is some kind of "underground" game and by letting other ppl in and making an MMO that TES is "selling out". which is a rediculous idea because lets face it, beth/zen ARE in the game making business to make money and the larger the audience they play to the more money they will make. It's basic business.
Perosonally, I don't think this will "kill" the series, because it's going to be a PC/MAC game. How many TES fans are on console? they aren't going to just cut off a huge source of income to focus only on an online MMO for one platform, thats just silly. I do think also that the DLC's that are in the pipeline are going to be big because we won't see a new ES game for a long time, which to me, does suggest that the next one (and I'm confident that there will be a next one) will be pretty fkn huge. There are too many what if's and maybe's in the Lore and a huge fanbase for TES. Only an idiot would just stop when the series is more popular than ever. and lets face it, more fans mean more money for them and more of a reason to keep the series going. and for those of you who are iffy about a TES MMO, just do what I'm going to be doing...wait until it comes out, then after a week go on youtube and watch the videos of it. Then make up your mind. :) Peace.

@Venger:
Those pages you've read are filled with first minute, unthinking reactions. Look at the times and dates - the first 9 pages were written in less than 12 hours, and the posts become more and more constructive with every page. Not to mention several separate topics created some days later to discuss things we'd like to see in TESO and propositions on how to deal with potential problems. Once the tempers cooled down the discussion became entirely different.

Basically what I'm saying is - you did the exactly same thing those posters on the first few pages had done. You took a quick look, got angry and reacted by posting a rant. Now you can count to ten, like everyone did a month ago, and move on to the more constructive (or "CONSTRUCTIVE!") parts of the discussion. ;)

You know dzio, you are absolutely right. And I did harbor concerns that perhaps by only reading the first three pages that I might have missed out on something constructive, rather than ranting and yelling. So in an opposite way, I guess I was no better than those öther"guys. But I still stand by my sense of disgust at the knee jerk reaction many had of ill-will and failure to Zenimax making an MMO.

News just broke: the main campaign is 100% SINGLE PLAYER.

Good news I think! I'm glad they are making it a bit of a cross over. Plus, it would be strange if you were on the final boss fight and there were 20 other guys waiting to kill him! LOL.

I think I might just get this.

I don't know if it will be good. It will be taking away the true nature of elder scrolls games by making them non single player. I will go with the aldmeri dominion because I'm a wood elf and the thalmor don't exist yet.

Just to put a point of reference out, a few MMO centric sites that went to E3 "felt Zenimax was focusing too much on single player" and not enough on the MMO portion (Which really doesn't surprise me given how far launch is from now)

Pretty much what Spiney said, Zenimax has to remember the reason for tacking on the "Online" on TES
If they go too single-solo game then it'll just be Arena updated in the early 2000s that can't be modded and sucks money from your pocket
