I've never played Morrowind, so I'm curious about cliffracers. Just wondering, if they were so terrible, why didn't Beth make the Skyrim dragons even more terrifying?

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
They weren't terrifying, just annoying as hell. They were absolutely everywhere, and were masters of stalking, and liked to travel in packs. They also had a habit of catching me with no stamina, meaning they took an annoyingly long time to kill at low-mid levels.shu wrote:I've never played Morrowind, so I'm curious about cliffracers. This sums up Cliff Racers quite well.shu wrote:I've never played Morrowind, so I'm curious about cliffracers. Just wondering, if they were so terrible, why didn't Beth make the Skyrim dragons even more terrifying?

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
i am not dissappointed with the teaser at all personally, it is a teaser after all, all these features and screenshots and that quick video, give u only a peak, it was meant for us fans to rip apart and sniff through for lore etc etc, seeing this only excites me more for Skyrim and here's why: if they are adding crossbows, spears will most likely be added too, dwemer and snow elves *could* both be part of this clan of vampires (they seem ancient, wars been raging for a long time etc etc) if they are adding vampire perk tree, they will add the lycanthropy perk tree as well, think of the new possibilities in the game with just those couple of things added, and the "glowing" horse in the trailer looks conjured to me... (it looks similar to conjured swords) i think that would be friggen awesome for a conjuration spell, and if it is, that also means new spells, and new shouts, new weapons (crossbows/spears).... if anything this tip of the iceberg trailer is playing to the people who were bummed out there was more meat to lycanthropy then vampirism this time, but i think they will both get a boost in the game with this, as well as the other players who dislike the others, if there was a lycanthropy perk tree included id love to see a perk in it that makes potion effects last for the duration of your change, and a perk (maybe rank 2 of this same one, that makes alteration spells last for the duration as well, ebonyflesh, anyone?)

i was a bit disappointed cos the flying isn't real flying by the looks of it - more like hovering lol
but this is just the vampire dlc, dunno if we'll have 2 dlc like in morrowind or perhaps a few sizeable add ons like KOTN or another SI but
if i were Beth i would build the thalmor story up and up and save it for the final big release - expect to kill high elves next winter/spring.. enjoy vampire killing this summer
Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Imagine dragons travelling in groups of 3 to 6 and you run into them every 3 minutes. That includes when your in town... they even wait for you to leave a building.shu wrote:I've never played Morrowind, so I'm curious about cliffracers. Haha yeah and at least dragons touch down so you can easily hit them; cliff racers were always annoyingly tricky to swing at (along with Morrowind's combat system where you didn't always hit your opponent). Some archery skills or magery makes them manageable ... when you hit them

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
they would see you from a mile away, make a screeching noise, and hover above your head, getting gradually lower, and occasionally attack when you stopped dodging. If you ignored them and just legged it, you might make it a little way, but they were quite common along some areas so you could accumulate several groups of racers which would then all descend when you had to stop for something important, like an Ogrim and they could be quite dangerous - they remind me a bit of the monsters in the first Riddick movie
a fireball was my favourite way of de-cliff racering the area, but this was a relatively high level solution to a problem that began very low level, spears were often the only way of dealing with them at low level

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
It was more the fact there were so many of them that you couldn't walk far through any of the Ashland or similar regions without being swarmed, thus making travelling a lot more tedious than it might have been. I'm honestly not sure why Racers are singled out though, Bonewalkers are about a million times more infuriating.shu wrote:I've never played Morrowind, so I'm curious about cliffracers. Saint Juib drove the Cliff Racers from Vvardenfell, but I guess the statement was vague enough that we might still see them on the mainland. I think it's fairly plausible that the link Gideon is referring to is accurate, I mean, it doesn't sound like a whole lot of land, but that doesn't mean that it wont happen. I just wonder how Beth would cut off the rest of Morrowind if they were to only add a small portion of old Velothis District.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
You know to be honest with you Elegost I thought the same, there really was little lore behind it before, but after reading a bit into it I can agree with how Vampire's have lost their place. They were feared and horrible, disgusting beasts, you just have to get the Twilight out in a way, let the Blade/Dracula in.
I'll most certainly be killing them first then joining them, however the one thing I can agree with you is it's randomness. I mean, for starters, where do you come about getting an Elder Scroll, sure they're dreaded monsters, but what we had to go through to get one was Hell.
We had a Daedric Prince watching our every move, while we had to go through an ancient warzone in the center of the Earth between the forgotten elves. That's more than enough security, don't you think? And Before that we had to sneak past half the Empire in the most heavily guarded area in all of Tamriel.
Who are these guy's that they can just take one, or more importantly where is it that getting to it is a viable option?
Lastly, though I can't see my 1st MQ character getting involved in this, I'm the dovahkhiin. Why would I get involved in a fight between two Daedric worshipers? I'll take the dragon weapons, and slay the new creatures, most importantly the Legendary Dragons, but I'd make a new character first before joining this war. Doesn't really offer much to the established story in Skyrim, more of a side road for second play throughs, now what I mean?
Other than that, I'll gladly dish out the $20 for this DLC.
Also, very curious as to how winning with the Vampires would play out. I'd assume that'd be the bomb, the Vampires take over and are lead by the DB, how do you stop anything and how do you reconcile with all your allies what you did?

We haven't gotten it yet and you are already complaining about it guys? (Not all) I am excited for this DLC, the Vampire Lord is something I have wanted for a long time. Vampires return as monsters. Does anyone know if they have sun damage again? I hope they do. I liked playing run from the sun in oblivion.

I meant more, how would they do it physically/geographically. In Skyrim, the boundaries of the province are fairly natural, mountain ranges and whatnot, which makes sense as natural topographical features are often the basis of territorial boundaries. The same features don't exist so neatly within the boundaries of Morrowind.Archea47 wrote:Probably the same way they did it in Skyrim - "You cannot continue in this direction" or whatever it is

Probably you'd see a road, forest, plain, etc extending into the distance in a manner similar to other areas we can see. And then you'll hit an invisible wall and recieve the following: "You cannot progress further"
edit: I believe that is basically how it was done in oblivion when you strayed near the boarder of Vaelenwood and Elsweyr.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I wish the vampire lords could actually fly, swooping down on poor towns from my mountain fortress would be fun. Also when you fall why levitating is it slowed?
I'm very excited about this, but I hope they release it in disc form.

Yeah, i'm not too thrilled it revolves around vampires but it's not even out yet! I'll save my criticism until then.
