Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Aww but its mean to use the word ignorant against him when he is just voicing his opinion. Which this forum is all about. I will be killing the vampires too...but yes, therr are other expansions to Skyrim that will be more up my alley, hopefully. I think with all the stuff put into the original game, Bethesda probably decided on a vampire dlc would be the right time...being as it is the first one. I just hope they add more flesh to DB, mages college, thieves guild, civil war, etc. Or perhaps the vampires are tying into the grand scheme of things. There is all thus rage about vampires these days with things like Twilight...but considering a daedric prince is tied into it all, I also agree it will definitely have TES feel we all love. I'm still getting it and still playing it. Crossbow all day every day.

Bethesda isn't one to change pre-existing questlines through DLC, or make DLC tied in any way to pre-existing questlines.Dohvakiin2012 wrote: I just hope they add more flesh to DB, mages college, thieves guild, civil war, etc.
The only thing I could see them adding is the Moot for after the Civil War.
I kinda wish they didn't cut out the 2nd part of Boethesia's quest that involved killing Elisif, Erikur would have been made Jarl in her place, a scary thought if you helped the Empire win, as he would be the one in place for becoming High King.
Unrelated but I am also sad they cut out MOST of Mephala's quest, you were supposed to get Balgruff's kids to kill him and his brother would have been made Jarl of Whiterun.

it's ignorant to call him ignorant. he was voicing an opinion, which he said it was just an opinion, and he tries to avoid hate, and what happens? he's hated on. just saying.FNF wrote:I think the hate directed towards Dawnguard is pretty ignorant.
- Vampires are extremely downplayed in Skyrim so adding all this extra content for Vampires seems like the right choice under the circumstances.
- Vampires are an integral part of the Elder Scrolls franchise so 'it just seems very, un-elder scrolls' is an extremely ignorant comment.
- 'for they have always kept there games civil and realistic' - Once again, an extremely ignorant comment. That's worse than saying 'I play CoD for realism' lol.
- 'TES always had a Lotr feel to it I throught, it never got to high fantasy or crazy' - Wrong, just, wrong.
- 'but after watching that tralier its like watching an Animie cartoon full of crazy sh*t' - Obviously don't know what anime is like.
Perhaps if you knew a bit more about Elder Scrolls lore, you would appreciate it a bit more ie Molag Bal's connection to Vampires etc. The bottom line is that this is very, VERY 'Elder Scrolls-ish' so that excuse does not work at all.
Also, just to make one thing clear, I don't like Vampires. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy this DLC (I'm gonna' kill dem Vampires derp').

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I don't know how vampires are "childish". They fit the world; this is the same place with Litches, Gods of Destruction, necromancers, assassin guilds dedicated to the void, dwarven robots, and giant mushroom towers. And I'm glad you can now become the kind of powerful undead the series only usually lets NPCs and enemies be.
Elder Scrolls, for me, has always been about how totally unrealistic, yet coherent, the world is. It isn't going for just "medieval" fantasy, the best places in it are the strange and alien places.
Edit: I bet they probably decided on doing a vampire themed DLC just because they had the vampire lord made during the gamejam though. Why let it go to waste after all?

But they have to open a pretty big portion of Morrowind to match the size of the land mass introduces in Shivering Isles, and that's not very realistic. It wouldn't surprise me if they added Coldharbour as well.Tiber-Septim wrote:Well if it is in Blacklight then I'll be quite happy. Afterall my Dunmer character comes from Blacklight. No ones opinions are "ignorant", unfortunately some people are. Anyway, Not overly delighted with dawnguard, but its better than nout eh? Good that a small piece of morrowind is included and what seems to be an "underworld" type of place??
Crossbows...I don't see the point.
With the inclusion of mounted combat perhaps a halberd or pike would have been better? (I have a thing for halberds incidently, I know not ideal for mounted combat but hey) I ould have liked to have had an opertunity to go into cyrodill and morrowind and see whats its like 200 years later. but maybe next time? but, like has been said, it's only a minute and a bit of a glimpse of the DLC so there is alot more that we don't know.
Crossbows...I don't see the point.

FYI Vampires (and were-wolves) do exist in the First Age in Tolkien's works under the service of Morgoth - see The Tale of Beren and Luthien for an example. Also I believe Middle Earth is technically high fantasy. You should give Morrowind a chanceElegost wrote: On a slightly different note however I am happy about one thing, The fact that you can fight againest the Vampires, that sounds a bit better and could add some great roleplaying ideas for my Lotr type Ranger (LOTR FANS: Vampire type beasts could of lived in the ruined Arnor I guess, the Witch King did have all sorts of nasties!)
As for Morrowind - I never played it for that reason
I'm skeptic myself of a DLC advertised with vampires as its central focus only because vampires are so popular right now in pop culture. Castles are cool in my book though - could turn out to be some fun sneaking opportunities. I do hope any freed prisoners are smarter than the ones in Skyrim
I'm not sure how I feel about cross bows ... will they be armor piercing?
Let's play some APB Reloaded Mount & Blade: Warband APB Reloaded Mech Warrior Online APB Reloaded Battlefield 4 SKYRIM!

Yeah, but these vampires aren't exactly the sexy human-in-everything-but-my-dental-structure ones we're used to - these are flying gargoyles with faces only their mothers could love. I'm not too worried about that aspect of it.

Same with Shivering Iles - Hated it.

Well, first of all, SI was in my opinion the best thing that ever happened to Oblivion, and Morrowind was just plain awesome.
To be honest, Morrowind has long been my favorite game (and still is my favorite TES game, despite the really bad graphics in comparison).
And Shivering Isles... working for an utter and complete madman eventually inheriting his realm?? Don't mind if I do!
I'm actually looking forward to these new vampires. No glittering stuff (no twilight lover here, no sir) but monstrous "Van Helsing Dracula" vampires that are really organized.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
That is the cool things about these vampires...that they aren't typical pop culture ones. Perhaps its the timing for me. And I think its entirely possible to state your opinion without being offensive. Its all good in the Skyrim hood baby. My point is this: what is the point of being the leader of these guilds if I can't do anything to further them along and help them grow? I know I will sit at the computer with some margaritas and end up being sucked into the vampire theme. I just worry that the meain content might mean I have to restart a new character when the ones I have are awesome and I want to go all the way with them if possible. Enough griping on my end geesh....

Stealing stuff for the Thieves Guild
Killing animals/rescuing people/hunting down escaped criminals for The Companions
Finding books/enchanting things for The College
Killing people for the Dark Brotherhood
You help the factions make money, increase their reputation etc. etc.

Thank you,, you are quite patient.
Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Hello all,
sorry that I caused a bit of a stir, the DLC just isn't my sort of thing I understand Vampires are part of TES, And think that they should be fleshed out, but so should Bandits and My sister and I would like to see the Culture of the Giants in Skyrim fleshed out etc, I guess look forward to future DLC's
I'm not 100% againest Dawnguard, theres alot of stuff in there thats great, and I am certainly going to buy it.
I just am a very Low fantasy, medevial type fan, thats why I never enjoyed the SI, I'm not saying the SI are wrong, they were great, an amazing add on, but they just felt rather, "hmm like that would ever happen", I could not relate to it, I could not ever imagine it excisting, but thats just me, I'm glad other people enjoyed it.
I think when I saw the Skyrim tralier I saw raw low fantasy, dragons a bit of magic, sword fighting, good 'ol proper stuff, then the Dawnstar Tralier sort of shocked me thats all, as it went in a compleatly different angle, I think we can all agree on that.
But anyway, sorry to of caused a stir

Evidently,I agree with Sajuuk on this.Mefris Elmek wrote:Wha...?Vampires have EVERYTHING to do with Skyrim's lore.Skyrim is Tamriel's Mecca when it comes to paranormal beings,it's "Transylvania" if you will.If one vampire was able to hatch a plan to take over a town I think a vampire clan could do much more.
Thats the reason why I love Dawnguard's version of vampires.I was born in Transylvania and I'm sick and tired of the pretty boy/girl with oversized canines look that is commonly attached to them(and the disco ball effect as well....You know what I'm talking about. That was an outright insult to vampirism).Gideon Dragontongue wrote:Yeah, but these vampires aren't exactly the sexy human-in-everything-but-my-dental-structure ones we're used to - these are flying gargoyles with faces only their mothers could love. The games(series) that portray vampires the best IMHO are Vampire The Masquerade:Redemtion,VTM:Bloodlines and Legacy of Kain (any). For me,Dawnguard is in the same list with these marvellous games and it will do justice to vampires and Skyrim as well.

i detest vampires and the teaser kinda [&@%!] me off, i have terrible luck with vampires, because of vampires i burn through cure disease potions and hawk feathers, not mention i was excited for something with snow elves or the dwarves or the thalmor, and i don't like crossbows i like bows much better simply because of ROF.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
My theory is, and hopefully this will do something to assuage your concerns, that Bethesda is building itself up, doing the least impressive/substantial DLC first so that they can pump it out slightly faster and also related to the XBOX exclusives that the first two DLC items have. I don't expect Dawnguard to add much in the way of new landmasses, although there will be new content in the form of Soul Cairn, new fortresses and new dungeons, and a lot of the stuff it will add is development of ideas shown off at Game Jam. I expect later DLC to do a little more, so don't lose hope just yet!
