Umbra answer and question

Post by ScamIam »

The answer is that you can kill Umbra at first level.

1. Get the weak fireball spell from the Skingrad guildmistress.
2. Look down into Ubra's living area through the break in the wall above.
3. Hop onto the ledge that is down and to the left; there is a spot where Umbra cannot hit you from above or below.
4. Kill Umbra with the spell.

The question is:

Can you do anything else with Umbra besides kill her?
I walked up and she said "My sword is hungry for souls", but there were no dialogue options.

There's an Umbra in Oblivion too?! And it's a she?! Does she have awsome armor and the Umbra sword just like in Morrowind?

Yes, The sword traps souls and the armor is the best you'll see early in the game.

She lives in a dungeon accross the lake from the waterfront area of the main city. I think it's a little south of the small island

I'm pretty sure it's called Vindasel.

There are a few roving mages outside.

Another killing way

Post by Ricky2 »

This is another easy way to kill umbra :

Once you cleaned the dungeon from monsters attract her from distance with a arrow(if u are lvl<10 prepare with lots of pots, she hurts)once she is running after you go to the dungeon exit. She will follow you(and probably hit you hard, so if you got a weapon with weapon's destruction ability(such as akavari sunderblade)engage her in fight just a little enough to destroy her sword, this will make easier next step)once you are outside the dungeon she will keep her hunt and you must keep running(even with her sword broken she can hit hard)move in direction of pell's gate. Be careful in this part 'cause if you somehow get too far from her(example falling from a bridge)she will chase off and return in the dungeon. Once you reach pell's gate the guard's rangeress will start shot her. now you just got to run around pell's gate her to get killed from the rangeress.
now you got umbra 's sword and a very good armor armor set 8)

hope this can help :D

ps. it worked for me i was lvl 5

In one of the daedric shrine quests (sheogorath?) you will be asked to go see Umbra. She has some dialog options then.

Yeah, There is also a talking dog idol associated with that quest that can cause a game crashing bug, so I avoid it.

That's the truth! Take the dog's advice and don't give him the sword. :P

The helmet is horrible, especially for a female char. Keep the sword until Martin starts nagging bout daedric artifacts. Then trade it for the helmet and give that one to Martin.

But it is much more fun to fight her at high levels ...

"BANG" "clatter" ARGH! She knocked my Daedric Dagger out of my hand with her SHIELD! *runs around looking for the dagger on the floor while trying to dodge Umbra's swings*

Such a blood thirsty lot!!! :D

Try just strolling in and chatting with the woman! Though you do have to have picked up the quest from the shrine first.

She doesn't even mind if you ransack all of her belongings while she watches. Her treasure chest can have some nice surprises. Not much to pickpocket off her though.

I'm going to head back tonight and use her as a gladiator in my private arena.

My conjuration is up to 75, so I have a variety of monsters to send against her. I figure I can stand on the safe spot and conjure them into "the pit".

The smart money is on the Daedroth to finally take her down.

Which Daedroth?! Cause I bet it's not going to be Daedroth #1!

She certainly is a feisty babe!!!

Please post back with how you get on though, I'd be interested to hear how many of your creatures she eats for breakfast before they manage to bring her down!

Ok, you're on!

Umbra vs. the Daedroths, I will hit her with one weak fireball to start the match, and then count how many she can kill.

I will have to make a 2 minute Daedroth conjuration so they don't disappear before she can kill them.

Daedroth #14 backed Umbra into a corner; she was almost too tired to lift her sword and shield. The parallel streaks of blood that spatter from the claw attack is a nice effect.

The first half a dozen Daedroth were knocked flat on their backs and hacked to bits, but by the time it got to #11 she was out of mana, out of fatigue, and the sword was dark. Then they started to get in close and maul her.

blinking heck!!! That is incredibly impressive!!!! She even outdid my expectations!

She is one helluva babe!!

So by the time she got to Daedroth #14, you weren't tempted to leap down by her side and help her out?! Fighting like that deserves respect!

Did you summon them all at once, or just a few at a time as she killed them off?

What a pity we can't recruit her to fight the hords of Ob.! She'd really put MD in his place!!

I summoned them one at a time with a 2 minute duration spell.

I wonder if you were low enough level, and had illusion at 100%, if you could make a 2 minute command humanoid up to 25th level spell, and actually recruit her to your cause by casting it every 2 minutes.

I'm pretty sure I still have a save from before I killed her.
Maybe I'll try it.

My level 7 Breton Mage wandered into Vindasel looking for loot. At first he was a bit disappointied. Just a few rats and one chest with nothing special in it.

Then he came to Umbra's room. After a bit of sneaking around and looting her chest he decided to take her out to get that nifty looking armour and pink glowing sword. So he backtracked onto the balcony and hurled a 5pt fire damage for 10 second spell at her, then legged it for the entrance trying to find a good vantage point to attack her from.

Unfortunately his usual tactic of run and heal before going back on the offensive failed miserably. She was on him in a flash and 2 swings of her sword were enough to finish him off. But he just had to have that sword.

By the magic of 'Load' he resurrected himself in time just before attacking her. This time he looked for a safe vantage point from which to hurl spells at her. First he tried to get on the broken pillar by the table, but his acrobatic skill was not upto it. So he went back upstairs and hopped on the balcony and found a little ledge behind the balcony (as per original post) to perch on. That worked very nicely, she was unable to get at him neither from above nor below. She dashed backwards and forwards taking an occasional blast from his Wizard's Fury spell, which seemed to do negligible damage to her. He thought it was going to take days to finish her, he just hoped that she would not be able to heal herself. In that case he had visions of standing precariously on his perch hurling spells at her forever.

Then she did a really stupid thing. She just stood still behind the balcony right in front of him allowing him to repeatedly hurl the Wizard's Fury right in her face until she went down. I guess she got tired from repeatedly running up and down the stairs and aimlessly swinging her sword around.

Her armour looks really nice on him, but it's very heavy. He needs to cast 2 feather spells to run at a decent speed in it. He's going to keep it in storage until his heavy armour skill goes up and just wear it for special occasions. But the sword, Umbra weighs nothing and he will keep that on him at all times.

His next objective is to head up north to get hold of a certain special soulgem to help him keep Umbra charged up.

Umnm, i dont want to sound like a dick, but what the point of Umbra at high lvls. Its an exellent sword but Goldbrand is better. I use the soul trap effect with my glass dagger. There is realy no point in having a heavy long sword if your just going to hit someone once and then finish them off with another wepon. Thats why i got a dagger, soul trap enchantment azura's star and gold brand. Hit someone with the dagger, finish them with gold brand recharge my wepon, move on. Its a great sword at low lvls but at high lvls its useless. GO GOLDBRAND!
