Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Firstly the reason this is not in the Dawnguard thread is becuase it would get swallowed up, also I don't want to get in the way of folk who are looking forward to it.
The reason I am dissapointed is the tralier seems to focus on - Vampiers, Flying Vampires, Vampires turing into Bats, errie graveyards with flying vampires, Weird purple/red cheap animations, vampire castles... The cross bow was good news. The rest was just a very big let down.
I know that vampiers are a part of elder scrolls lore, and I agree with them being in game, but making a whole damn add on for them!? I am sure Bethesda could of down far more interesting things than this, it just seems very, un-elder scrolls. A bit childish to be honest, TES has alwasy been on a pedestall for me, for they have always kept there games civil and realistic, for me all this does is cheapens the game and lowers its quality, TES always had a Lotr feel to it I throught, it never got to high fantasy or crazy. Thats why as a game I always loved it, but after watching that tralier its like watching an Animie cartoon full of crazy sh*t.
Maybe its just me but I feel rather dissapointed, I was hoping for something I could relate to, like the war with the Thalmor.

You do realise that it's not out yet right?
Bethesda probably have a reason for the Vampires and haven't released it yet.

I think you may be seeing it in the wrong *light* , it seems like this is going further into the paranormal then the base game, though it may not follow the base plot, neither did any other dlc for oblivion. And lets not assume vamps will *suck* away all the focus, they just may be half of the dlc...

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
The reason Bethesda made Dawnguard was to finally give Vampires some "meat"....and to shut people up.They don't do anime and they don't butcher TES's DLC's.
No one is going to throw anything at you (I hope..) and I urge you to listen to JK and wait for it to come out.
It's just around the corner for Talos sake.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I am with you 100%. Granted, it has not come out yet so we don't really know how it will be...but so far I am disappointed too. Elder Scrolls has been my midieval fantasy come true...and I agree that vampires, etc seems childish. The Elder Scrolls has the best lore and seamless construction of a world that no one else out there in the game world can touch. Now this. I just wanted to voice my opinion of it as well, which I placed in the Dawnguard thread. But we shall see my friend, how it will be. If it is similar to what was in the game jam, then I suppose it would appease me. I detest vampires. But whatever.Elegost wrote:Firstly the reason this is not in the Dawnguard thread is becuase it would get swallowed up, also I don't want to get in the way of folk who are looking forward to it.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I found your (OP) comment on it being in tune with the Elder Scrolls ironic considering that, from the trailer it seems, the Elder Scrolls themselves seems to be integral to the plot line. Blotting out the sun over Skyrim though is even more ironic. (I'm pretty sure that was Dragonsreach at the end)
I'm not being mean or anything, I just found it ironic.
On Dawnguard, don't count the Thalmor topics out just yet. Can't say one or the other until we all get a chance to delve into the expansion. For all we know Bethseda could be taking something out of the storytelling in New Vegas's DLC. In the previous 3 DLCs they constantly alluded to the future meeting between The Courier and Ulysses. Perhaps they will do that in this and the subsequent DLC's with the Thalmor.
But I do agree with the Vampires part on being a little....unprecedented, I thought for sure it would have something to do with the "Dawn" or return of the Snow Elves and the Dragonborn "Guarding" Skyrim from their incursions and violent return.

Did you ever play morrowind? Very high fantasy (almost no earth animals, no normal houses, etc...) and it was a crazy TES game.Elegost wrote:TES always had a Lotr feel to it I throught, it never got to high fantasy or crazy.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
My guess for Dawnguard, was that it had something with "the creatures of the night" and i watch the trailer with a bit mix feelings.
It sounds pretty nice that you ones again must choose a side, with the Vamps or the Dawnguard, and live with the consequences but it looks like there only is this one vampire family/clan. In Morrowind there was three clans the Shadows of the Berne, the Mages of the Aundae, and the Warriors of the Quarra. In Oblivion there was no really vampire quests other then the one to get cured, no clan to join..
So i am looking forward to some get some more vampire content in Skyrim but i was hoping for something else.. But hey this might not be the only DLC coming to Skyrim, so i will play it and enjoy it for what it is and be hope that the next one is going to blow me away.
But i disagree with the trailer being an "Animie cartoon full of crazy sh*t" did you see the part where a dragon crashes in to the ice ? I hop that Bethesda is adding more environment that can be alter with, as trees and maybe house that can burns to the ground if a dragon attacked or your firespell mis the target..

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I think what Bethesda are going to do from now on is make the vanilla game more like a medieval fantasy game (you can see this in Oblivion and Skyrim) and make the DLC's more high fantasy (Shivering Isles and now Dawnguard + maybe another piece of Skyrim DLC).
I'd be more than happy if they did this, because then we get the best of both worlds!
Unless they set TES:VI in Summerset Isle, in which case ignore everything i just said.

It looks better on a box.
Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
The DLC isn't just vampires, granted they are a big part, but what does a dragon diving underwater have to do with vampires? Or that frost giant? Anyway vampires have always been a bit weak in ES, and with a choice between vampires or werewolves in Skyrim, it's almost stupid to become a vampire unless for RP reasons. I'm not hating on vampires, they were just pretty weak. I love what Bethesda have done with this DLC, now Vampires will be very strong opponents and extremely fun to play as.
Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Thanks for all the variour replys and opinions, its nice to hear others throughts, I don't doubt there will be some good things to the DLC, but it just feels very vampire based, I know some folk here like playing as vampires and I understand for them this must be a dream come true, I respect that and hope they enjoy the dlc, Just myself I would of prefered somthing more...Less vampires.
This DLC looks like 70% Vampires I would prefer maybe 30%.
On a slightly different note however I am happy about one thing, The fact that you can fight againest the Vampires, that sounds a bit better and could add some great roleplaying ideas for my Lotr type Ranger (LOTR FANS: Vampire type beasts could of lived in the ruined Arnor I guess, the Witch King did have all sorts of nasties!)
As for Morrowind - I never played it for that reason
Same with Shivering Iles - Hated it.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Daggerfall had vampire clans and quests and stuff. Then Morrowind downgraded them, and in Oblivion they were little more than above-average-undead. In fact, apart from the Count Skingrad quests you could have overlooked them entirely.
But if you look in the forums a lot of people moaned about all that, so for Bethesda to bring them back with a vengeance just shows that customer feedback counts! So I say (1) let's wait and see exactly what Dawnguard brings to the table before judging it and (2) let's keep asking and asking for the stuff you really want and eventually you may get it (crossbows anyone?)

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I am not very happy about this DLC too, not because I don't like the DLC for what it is, but what it is not.
I would have liked to see a DLC about the war against the thalmor or a expansion about the civel war. I my opinion the civel war did not end, there were still questions and more then oblivions ending.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
Watching the Tralier again, i am happy about the Dawnguard, the people whom protect againest the vampires, that sounds very interesting since I am a Good guy, I loved the Knights of Nine in Oblivion best DLC for the game imo, I just loved the feel of it.
Is there a new castle I see in the Traliers!? No Two new castles? One for The vampires and one for Dawnguard. Now that would be great, maybe a battlethorn Castle (Oblivion) type thing!

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
The biggest reason I can see Bethesda adding Vampires for is because in lore Skyrim is supposed to be a land so filled with Vampires and Were creatures that they are supposed to be a near constant plague on the people.
However in the Skyrim we got theirs a handful of easy vampire nests and no werewolves outside of the companions questline because the werewolf random encounter is broken.
This DLC brings Skyrim closer to what it is supposed to be ,i.e. the Transylvania of Tamreil.

Well, first of all, SI was in my opinion the best thing that ever happened to Oblivion, and Morrowind was just plain awesome. I can understand where you're coming from on Dawnguard, but I don't like vampires in Skyrim only because they're so basic and not fleshed-out. Now, we get this new, cool, and very much unique vampire lore, and I'm sure there are some people who are going to complain about it, for reasons that elude me. I'll admit I didn't think anyone was going to be against it being in Blacklight, but I seem to have discovered one such person in you.
My advice to you is: Don't play it. Wait for the other expansions, or just stick to vanilla Skyrim.

I'm actually quite pleased with Dawnguard. I'm glad that you are presented with a choice and I'm also pleased that The Elder Scrolls are becoming more prominent. The addition of crossbows is awesome and I'd love it if you could turn into one of those gargoyle-bat things.
One more thing, is it in Blacklight? Where is the evidence to suggest this?

This was released a few weeks ago, and it confirmed everything we currently know about Dawnguard before the trailer came out. It seems reasonable to believe the rest of it, at least until we know more.

Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I get your point. I don't like vampires that much either, so this DLC isn't exactly what I was hoping for, but we musn't forget that this won't be the only DLC for Skyrim. For example, Knights of The Nine (Oblivion) was a pretty lame expansion if you were an evil character. But Shivering Isles on the other hand was a great expansion!
So if you don't like this DLC, wait for the next one.

I find it rather gimmicky.
Like adding stuff that should've been there in the first place?
"Hey, we're gonna charge you for stuff we should've packaged with the game from the start!"

I mean, they COULD have conceivably thought up of, and added this stuff into the base game had they delayed it for like 6 months, but then the same claim could be made for ANY new content, and eventually with the constant "they COULD have added this into the base game" the game would be delayed into infinity.
There has to be a point were the devs can just say NOPE, no more, and that point is when we have a game with many features that all work, which is what we got.
So where is my dream? It is the continuation of reality. But where is my reality? It is at the end of your dream.
Re: Dissapointed with Dawnguard
I think the hate directed towards Dawnguard is pretty ignorant.
- Vampires are extremely downplayed in Skyrim so adding all this extra content for Vampires seems like the right choice under the circumstances.
- Vampires are an integral part of the Elder Scrolls franchise so 'it just seems very, un-elder scrolls' is an extremely ignorant comment.
- 'for they have always kept there games civil and realistic' - Once again, an extremely ignorant comment. That's worse than saying 'I play CoD for realism' lol.
- 'TES always had a Lotr feel to it I throught, it never got to high fantasy or crazy' - Wrong, just, wrong.
- 'but after watching that tralier its like watching an Animie cartoon full of crazy sh*t' - Obviously don't know what anime is like.
Perhaps if you knew a bit more about Elder Scrolls lore, you would appreciate it a bit more ie Molag Bal's connection to Vampires etc. The bottom line is that this is very, VERY 'Elder Scrolls-ish' so that excuse does not work at all.
Also, just to make one thing clear, I don't like Vampires. That doesn't mean I can't enjoy this DLC (I'm gonna' kill dem Vampires derp').
