I was so confident that Dawnguard will be about vampires that I prepared two of my characters beforehand

Re: Dawnguard.
I don't see all this hype for crossbows.
Sidenote:I hope they will implement bolt/arrow crafting and add silver to the "weapon-forging-material list"(silver bolts are a must now).
Hm I'm surprised no one (if I didn't miss it)mentioned the Dragon doing a dive bomb into the frozen lake. That was badass.
The Dragon might be the protector of the Volkihar Clan
I also hope for arrows/bolts crafting. I understand being glad because a weapon category is back, I just don't get why crossbows. As I said, I find that throwing knives would have been better and I also would have liked spears and lances, especially with the mounted combat thing. Crossbows? Never been a big fan. But I'll give them a try. I didn't mention the dragon because there's not much to say, we have no idea what it mean, we can just speculate much more than what we can assume about all the rest. I just hope dragons are tougher. They should be the big badass monsters that everyone is afraid of. Instead they suck. Normal dragons should be as strong as blood dragons and all the rest should scale accordingly. We need silver crafting, I agree, an possibly more weapons and armour types.

Re: Dawnguard.
If you watch the trailer carefully you'll see there are actually two new types of winged humanoids. The first is the Vampire Lord form and the second is Daggerfall type Gargoyles.
I think it's interesting how the Scrolls are gradually being incorporated more into the series as physical artifacts rather than simply being alluded to when the prophecy of the main quest is being discussed. I was surprised when they included one in the Thieves' Guild in Oblivion, and even more so when one appeared in Skyrim's main quest. Now apparently we'll be seeking out Scrolls (plural) for an expansion. I guess Bethesda finally figured out that if you're going to name your video games after an object then maybe they should be a bit more physically present in the story lines.

Monsters are bred in labyrinths, labyrinths are bred from walls. There is a reason the Giants choose to remain nomadic rather than follow their shield kin the Nords in building permanent settlements. The Tower is the beginning of all walls.

Well, we have seen a few falmer in the trailer, so I think they might side with the vamps/gargoyles. It makes sense because the falmer don't like sunlight, so their goals are similar to those of the vamps.

Re: Dawnguard.
Just cause they lost their sight doesn't mean they are stupid.
Think about it like this....there are people in the world who lose their eyesight so now instead they use sonar to "see" the world via clicking of the tongue.
See where I am getting at? The Falmer may have lost the ability to see but their other sense are much more keen. We assume the Falmer can't read but look at humans? We have braille best case scenario the falmer are allied with someone, probably the vampires and play a significant role. Worst case scenario the Falmer are just enemies we fight during the course of the expansion and serve little else other than being "cattle" for the vampires or slaves/guards.

Re: Dawnguard.
Falmer are decadent but i think they could be recruited by one side. If Vamps and falmer share the same habitat potentially, it is possible they have a natural antagonism, ie they are fighting over the same territory, so it could go either way. Certainly vampires could benefit from Falmer allies which keep living servants (eg blackreach) and can act as sleep time guards, but what would the falmer gain from an alliance?Vardark wrote:But are the falmer intelligent enough to take side with anybody?cowleyj wrote:Well, we have seen a few falmer in the trailer, so I think they might side with the vamps/gargoyles. Falmer have writing carved in stone (see the thieves guild storyline), they might have lost the art to reading due to their degeneration it but it is a form of braille and does exist

Re: Dawnguard.
Seeing as the trailer was from the vamps' perspective, I'd imagine a Dawnguard-orientated trailer may be shown at E3 or something...maybe?

Re: Dawnguard.
We know that they're planning an invasion of the overworld. Perpetual night would help make this viable, as traditionally the Falmer would only go to the surface at night (for whatever reason). An alliance would seem unlikely for the battle-hungry Falmer, but I doubt anyone but a crazy vampire clan would even approach them about forming one.Mattbott wrote:Certainly vampires could benefit from Falmer allies which keep living servants (eg blackreach) and can act as sleep time guards, but what would the falmer gain from an alliance?
Or maybe the Snow Prince is a vampire...

The Snow Prince was slain regardless. Maybe he was brought back to life with the Elder Scrollsor something...legoless wrote:Or maybe the Snow Prince is a vampire...Mattbott wrote:Certainly vampires could benefit from Falmer allies which keep living servants (eg blackreach) and can act as sleep time guards, but what would the falmer gain from an alliance?
And I heavily doubt he was...
If you look closer at the Falmer scene, it appears to be outside and there seems to be a bridge on the left. To be a little speculative, it could lead to a palace of some sort.

I'm so happy crossbows are back. I loved them in Morrowind. Bows suck compared to crossbows.

Are we sure those creatures are vampires and not some sort of gargoyle thing? They still look awesome and have awesome powers, super excited about this!

Totally. Also, they very much fit in with the theme of vampires versus vampire hunters, so my witchhunter will finally have an appropriate weapon.Knight Captain Kerr wrote:I'm so happy crossbows are back. I loved them in Morrowind. Bows suck compared to crossbows.
I suspect the quest hook to begin the expansion MQ involves rescuing his daughter from somewhere, and she's likely in possession of an Elder Scroll.Mefris Elmek wrote:Edit:I wonder what does the vampire lord at the beginning mean when he says "you have returned to my daughter".
Yeah. I could totally see this being even better, in fact.Mefris Elmek wrote:This is shaping out to be just as marvellous as the S Isles DLC.

I have always assumed we lost crossbows, spears, halberds, and throwing weapons, because they were relatively redundant, and under-utilized by most players.Mefris Elmek wrote:Well,it's a weapon category that we lost without a good reason and they are awesome hunting equipment. This is the perfect time to bring back crossbows & spears with all the vampires running about.

Re: Dawnguard.
There's not really anything in the weapon types we have now that works like a spear and throwing weapons are for ranged attacks but nothing as far as a bow and much quicker. Quite a shame they were cut. I wonder why they brought back crossbows (which do have a similar weapon) and not spears. I hope there's a reason to it other than making fans happy. In that case they should have reintroduced all of the removed weapons. We'll see.

I don't see how that is relevent to Spears? No. After it comes out for Xbox, then it'll be at least a month after that. So it'll be some time in July or August for PC and PS3, depending on when it's released for Xbox.

Because spears have no real design purpose besides being yet another type of melee weapon.Huntershound wrote:I don't see how that is relevent to Spears? I hunt with one in the name of Hircine.

Re: Dawnguard.
That's fine. Why not have all types of melee weapons...also lets not forget the lore. Really can't just ignore the Spear of Bitter Mercy's significance just becuase spears aren't super-special-unique-in-there own-amazing-way. A little extra reach might be a useful mechanic to add in but not required for use. I was actually irked when I found out my main, always a Hircine worshiping werewolf (The reason i played about 5 min. total of oblivion), couldn't use his signature weapon in honor of the Master of the Hunt. Hell in Bloodmoon after I picked up his spear I used nothing else.SajuukKhar wrote:Because spears have no real design purpose besides being yet another type of melee weapon.Huntershound wrote:I don't see how that is relevent to Spears? Re: Dawnguard.
But it could also be that we have to eleminate the Falmer for the Vampire Lord Faction, most really bad villains don't like to share the world with any other race (underlings^^). And as some said already the falmer would use a dark world surely for their attack. Also the last scrolls was near them it could be that the dwemer had more scrolls and the falmer now have them in their hands.
