I was thinking the title would mean something like, they guard all through the night till dawn (since thats when the sun comes out and vamps and sun dont mix too well.)Witchery wrote:Of course. i got a question guys, if the theme for dawnguard is vampires does that mean you might catch the vampire disease thru them, cause i hate vamps, they give me chills and i would have no problems murdering them all

This might be some sort of "special" vampirism that you can't catch, but I wouldn't bet on it.

that said, in the trailer there was footage of a weird vamp thing flying around in third person, theres a chance that could've been the player character

Re: Dawnguard.
That trailer was...beautiful.
I would gladly pay double for Dawnguard after watching it.
And yeah, it did look like that flying scamp vampire thingy was being controlled by the player.
But best of all: Crossbows. Time for a redguard assassin with a crossbow? I think so.

Maybe it is just me but why do we need a Dawnguard faction, couldn't they just take the Vigilants of Stendarr? They are an established faction and have no real purpose till now.

I don't see all this hype for crossbows. I'd rather have throwing knives. The trailer was amazing, anyway, I still don't know which side to choose but I think Dawnguard for my main. I might make another evil character for the vampire side of the quest. I agree with those who said Bethesda has to come up with a good lore update.

it'll be interesting how bethy integrates vamps into the DLC, one big question is what if your already a vamp?

Maybe its like an "upgrade" if you are already a vampire and if you are not one there is maybe another sidequest to catch vampirism.

Re: Dawnguard.
The Vigilants of Stendarr have a pretty broad purpose though. They purge the world of all kinds of evil creatures, whereas the Dawnguard would probably be more efficient because they're focused entirely on taking out the weird vampires.Trelares wrote:Maybe it is just me but why do we need a Dawnguard faction, couldn't they just take the Vigilants of Stendarr? Although it also would make sense if the Vigilants of Stendarr weren't aware of the presence of the vampires, as the main vampire guy says something about 'finding their fortress.' I guess they're just very secretive. And you'd think that if their presence in Skyrim was more well-known, it would be quite a topic throughout Tamriel.

This. Plus if they're played accurate to lore, then no player who wants keep their character a werewolf could play the expansion (on either side) without getting cured. I assume the Dawnguard will be OK with werewolf PCs.Nevastar wrote:The Vigilants of Stendarr have a pretty broad purpose though. Re: Dawnguard.
With purpose I meant something more like being a backround addition, yeah they have a goal and story and all that. But what do they really do? They sit around in their headquarter and sometimes you can meet one of them traveling around, or getting killed by a mage/vampire.
I feel really bad for all this factions that could provide a good guild questline (like the vigilants, the silver hand and the penitus oculatus) and feel like they are just filler material to make the world not so empty.
I have nothing against a new faction but it seems this addon provides something like 2 "guild" faction that are enemies, and seeing how many factions are already present in skyrim that could have the same use makes me a bit angry.
It is just like adding new stuff but doesn't fill out what we already have.

Re: Dawnguard.
That was the player character but in a Vampire (Over)Lord form.Thats something we already saw in the Game Jam video (along with the "epic mount" which is also in the DG trailer).I'm speculating that we will be able to summon minions like in the Overlord series and that we will have our own castle.derp53 wrote:that said, in the trailer there was footage of a weird vamp thing flying around in third person, theres a chance that could've been the player character
The whole point of making a Uber Vampire DLC is to let you become one if you want to.Not letting you do so would be counter intuitive.Still,I think their will be vampiric forms that will be unavailable to the player (0:53 in the trailer). This might be some sort of "special" vampirism that you can't catch, but I wouldn't bet on it.
The Dawnguard are specialised in vampire hunting in the same way the Silver Hand is in werewolf hunting which offers a more focused questline and at the same time it gives us something new to play with. That being said,I wouldn't rule out the VoS from making an appearance but they will probably be small time players.Maybe it is just me but why do we need a Dawnguard faction, couldn't they just take the Vigilants of Stendarr? I don't see all this hype for crossbows.
Sidenote:I hope they will implement bolt/arrow crafting and add silver to the "weapon-forging-material list"(silver bolts are a must now).

Hm I'm surprised no one (if I didn't miss it)mentioned the Dragon doing a dive bomb into the frozen lake. That was badass.
The Dragon might be the protector of the Volkihar Clan

I dismissed the dragon jumping into the lake because I have no idea what it means. Why would dragons help stop vampires from taking over? I'm probably the only one here that is skeptical about the "awesomeness" of a vampire themed DLC. I just don't connect with the whole vampire thing...but maybe there were gamers that didn't connect with dragons and I did. :-\

Re: Dawnguard.
Perhaps the issue I have is this: vampires + Skyrim lore= ??? Skyrim is seamless in its inclusion of dragons and other monsters in lore. The Civil War makes sense...the other things going on make sense...but vampires taking over? Last I checked they were easy to kill with some flames and chain lightning. They aren't very included into Skyrim...it doesn't seem realistic to me. But it is too early to be jumping to conclusions, I know. I will probably be the first to say how great it is ha. I just want to shoot everything in sight with my new crossbow...which I will promptly enchant and name "Felina".

Re: Dawnguard.
Honestly, the theme doesn't excite me. I was hoping for something delving deeper into the politics and warfare of the war and the Thalmor. Then again, I've been playing too much of The Witcher 2.
Putting that aside, it does look incredible. I'm sure it will turn out well, and I'll most definitely be playing it.

I didn't suggest that they wanted to destroy the vampires. In fact,I suggested the opposite.Mefris Elmek wrote:The Dragon might be the protector of the Volkihar Clan.
Still, the Dov would have a number of reasons to help/stop the vampires so it's not clear if the one showed has a x or y alliance.
To elaborate:
A)Diving into a frozen lake is something a Volkithar would do so the dragon might be their patron (the one that showed them how to use the icey depths to their advantage).
B)The dragon might just dive into the lake to kill vampires.
C)He's going for a swim.
Let's not forget that Dragons were the central point of Skyrim's storyline and that they will not stand idle in the face of a threat (especially now when "Parthy" is leading them).
Hm,I think it would be nice if the Dragons would choose sides on this matter(ex.P with Dawn,O. with "Dusk")
Wha...?Vampires have EVERYTHING to do with Skyrim's lore.Skyrim is Tamriel's Mecca when it comes to paranormal beings,it's "Transylvania" if you will.If one vampire was able to hatch a plan to take over a town I think a vampire clan could do much more.Perhaps the issue I have is this: vampires + Skyrim lore= ???

Yeah but there isn't much that I have seen written on vampire lore in Skyrim. Please re-direct me to where there is if I am wrong here. But I have faith that it will all fit in the way everything else does. Things that suck blood out of my neck terrify me...that is probably the true issue here.
PS that vampire failed miserably on taking over that town...

I'm from Transylvania."Balauri" (Dragons),"Vampiri" (Vampires) and "Vârcolaci" (Werewolves) are subject to a lot of myths in my homeland.People from the country side till this day rub garlic on their windows and doors to protect against vampires and werewolves.Things that suck blood out of my neck terrify me...that is probably the true issue here.
He failed because the Dragonborn (aka Batman) was there to save the day otherwise Morthal would have become "Mortal" (deadly in Romanian).PS that vampire failed miserably on taking over that town...
Edit:I wonder what does the vampire lord at the beginning mean when he says "you have returned to my daughter".Hm also he wants to use the Elder Scrolls to block out the Sun so I guess the DLC will involve a great number of places and factions(including dragons).
This is shaping out to be just as marvellous as the S Isles DLC.
Edit 2:The castle at 0:42 (which I guess is the Dawnguard stronghold) reminds me of Skingrad.
Edit 3:The soundtrack and voice acting in the trailer IMO is inspired from the "Legacy of Kain" series (which is also about vampires).I recommend you watch the opening cutscene from "Soul Reaver:Legacy of Kain" and see of anything rings a bell.

Okay, arrogant, power-hungry mage will definitely go for the Vampires, since I was planning to make her one anyway. Now I just need to decide whether my werewolf bloodthirsty assassin should stay a werewolf, or should I cure him ready for the Vampires. I suppose I should also create a 'good' character to join the Dawnguard.
So many great things in this trailer!
