No, seriously, they shot someone who was eating someone, clearly unarmed...They couldn't have both tackled him, handcuffed him, and made him ride naked in the back of the police car? Clearly gun happy officers who should've never received their badges. There were hundreds of ways that situation could've been handled better.

The way I see it, this guy could have either lived the rest of his screwy life in a mental hospital, costing the government hundreds of thousands of dollars when all is said and done, or the police could use a couple of twenty cent bullets and solve the problem right there. There's an obvious answer here, I'm sure of it.

You know nothing about the man that was shot besides the crime he commited. You have no idea what drove him to do it, no idea who he is, why he is why he is, if he is mentally ill or not...nothing. So just killing him is okay.

Moving away from the incident itself, to cannibalism.

Society hates it because "It's wrong." and says this for a number of reasons:

1) a lot of people would be uneasy about eating the flesh of one of their own kind.
2) Religious beliefs.

Now that's all good and well. But is that reason enough to be outlawed? I say no for the same reason I think that other things certain social groups stand against should be allowed:

As long as it hurts no other party and everything is arranged and done by willing parties, then no one has the right to impose their own view on them. So if say, someone were comfortable with being eaten after their death, cannibals should be allowed to eat that body.

And this is where you don't understand. Murder is a crime because it is non-conesntual. Consensual cannibalism should not be a crime. Consensual anything shouldn't be illegal.

I would be slightly more tolerant of cannibalism if the practitioners in question limited themselves to those who are odd enough to provide consent. But that's not going to happen.

Cannibalism in general is ethically odorous and does not have a place in today's society.

Of course they would be supervised, and transgressions should be punished. But you can't just say "That's not going to happen." How do you know? You don't.

The only one saying that cannibalism is murder is you. And you're wrong. Cannibalism is the consumption of flesh that originates from the same species as the consumer. This does not necessarily involve killing.

Cannibalism opens way too many other doors that should never, ever be opened. Nope, it's just fine being illegal. We don't allow, by law, anyone to beat the living crap out of each other (outside of relatively controlled environments), nor do we allow well-trained medical professionals to help patients kill themselves, and there are a TON of reasons for both of those illegalities.

I'm not saying things should just be changed from one day to the next. It would be a slow moving effort to change society. I mean, it's not even cannibalism itself I care about. I've never thought about it until now. My real gripe is that today's society while "modern" was built on the back of an extremely unagreeable and outdated society.

The officer was entirely correct in his course of action, given the information he would have had, namely the fact that one guy is gnawing at the face of another chap...and yes, cannibalism is technically 'MURDER, with the intention of consuming the corpse', a person eating a dead body that they didn't kill is necrophagy.

In my opinion, the officer did the right thing.

A lot of people like to claim he was gun-happy, but come on. He was dealing with a guy that was likely so doped up that he didn't have any control over his own actions. The officer warned him away several times before he fired, the suspect didn't listen and growled at the officer.

Do any of you have any idea how hard it would have been to take down a guy so doped up he feels no pain? A guy that's so out of it he can pull every muscle and break every bone in his body and not realize it? If you think about it, there was no zombie virus involved, but there was definitely a zombie there. The officer could very well claim that he felt his life was in danger, and I sure as hell wouldn't argue it. His reaction is entirely justified.
