Stealth players
As a stealth player, I have large experience with the problems that come with it.
The worst for me as an assassin are dragons, I use stealth to deal damage to my enemies, and have invested only slightly into Health to make the best of my experience with Stamina. But when I battle a dragon, it is very difficult because I have no major means of attack beyond my stealth, and it is next to impossible to get a sneak attack on a dragon for me, especially since they are always flying and never close enough when they land.

Followers. I can't count how many followers I've had to kill in order to get them to shutup. And sending them home just makes more noise. Bleh

I'd have to go with dragons as well. I have yet to use a follower with my stealth character, but dragons...ugh...more often than not I'll avoid them.

I really thought I was the only that had trouble with dragons...

Re: Stealth players
I don't have "trouble" killing dragons, but from a Stealth point of view, they are more difficult than most creatures to kill.
Mainly cos you only really get 1 sneak attack with a bow (that's if they aren't flying) and then there's nowhere to hide.

Stealth players +Dragons = Run Away
Do that, and you're Roleplaying.
Refuse that, and your're just being an annoying badass.

Re: Stealth players
I only fight dragons as an assassin because I have a mage follower and the Sanguine Rose. Otherwise I would run away. The best I can do now is hide and shoot a few arrows. I suck at shooting arrows.

Re: Stealth players
my stealth mage has very useful poisons and his fundamental hardness is part of his roleplaying.. i kind of see him as a disaster waiting to befall anyone who is unlucky enough to notice him ( he's khaajit so will often avoid conflict out of laziness, or seek conflict out of boredom , mainly cos i tend to stereotype feline things )Dark Spark wrote: Refuse that, and your're just being an annoying badass.
dragons are tricky, but so far i've managed to be attacked when there are a load of people around me (in fact the last dragon attacked me whilst i was being chased by windhelm's finest and just as i found a shack full of bandits, and between them they managed to do half the damage to the monster)

Yeah you pretty much have to get the hang of the one-hand. Even then a dragon could swallow you up. Its tricky.

Re: Stealth players
Well if you have marksman at a high skill level an maybe alchemy then it isn't really that hard, just keep moving and taking cover but if you get hit then things wont go nicely.
I voted for scripted events because most of the time i can see the dragon from a distance so i have some time to prepare, but with scripted events like hired thugs or hold up's i'm caught off guard especially since i leave my gear in my house while wandering town.

This is why it's never beneficial to specialize in one thing at the expense of ignoring everything else. A well-rounded generalist has more than one effective tool in his self-made Swiss Army Knife. Stealth is a wonderful skill to have, but it needs to be backed up with decent capabilities in other areas, for those times when Stealth alone doesn't cut it.
If you build a borked lop-sided character, you have to accept that there will be times when you're pretty much useless and live with the consequences.

Re: Stealth players
Dragons. Dragons dragons dragons. I can't fight them at all on my stealth character. Thats why I have a follower outfitted as a tank to draw their attention.
That brings me to my second choice, followers. My follower always gets in the way and interrupts my sneak attacks. He's good back up though.

Followers are so annoying. The hardest quest for me was the final one of the Champions simply because you had all of those allies with you the whole time giving away your position.

Re: Stealth players
I highly focus on archery, so dragons aren't a big problem. But followers are the worst for me though. I get the sneak attack clean, but every following arrow is a challenge to get past my follower. My second favorate playstyle, the mage, I also have the same problem. Thus, I don't deal with followers anymore.

Re: Stealth players
My assassin is pretty good with dual swords, so while I avoid dragons, I don't freak out if they attack me. I'd actually have to say mammoths and giants are harder to kill than dragons as an assassin.
Followers would have to be the worst. Even the ones who are supposed to be stealthy blunder around noisily setting off traps >_o

Re: Stealth players
Yeah, I play a stealth mage and trying to shoot lightning bolts over Janessa's shoulder all the time is tricky. And notice I said lightning bolt, not chain lightning, because that would turn her into toast. But I gave her the nightingale boots and she subsequently doesn't make noise. I can sneak up to the backs of characters and give em a good sneak punch with my legendary daedric guantlets (unarmed + fists of steel + fortify unarmed) now that she has muffled boots. And dogs, Vigilance at least, don't alert (despite all the **** barking)Giordano wrote:I highly focus on archery, so dragons aren't a big problem. But followers are the worst for me though. I need followers. I'm at the point now (lvl 49 on this char) where I don't bother picking up anything that's less than 1:50 weight to value, but it still adds up fast and I need me a mule. Her Guildmaster's armor I believe adds another 50 lbs
But followers in dungeons ... they don't understand trip plates. Plenty of times I've been taken suddenly to third person perspective to see myself violently terminated by a trap my follower stepped on. She has more health than me apparently though because she can usually survive me telling her to "wait here" and step on a rune - another reason to keep followers around

Re: Stealth players
This is very true, and I have noticed the difficulty of a pure stealth player when it comes to being detected. (Of course not truly pure, but I don't use magic)Evil-i wrote:This is why it's never beneficial to specialize in one thing at the expense of ignoring everything else. I truly need to work on my archery...

Re: Stealth players
Dragons. They are hard to deal with stealthily and I did face many problems with my "all stealth" -character, making fighting them a bit tedious. I usually only manage to get one sneak attack and that's it. They just don't suit to my character's fighting style =P. My current sneaky character is handling them much better since he likes to brew poisons and is also good with melee.
Followers can be a huge problem but they can also be turned to your advantage. At first I wanted to rage-kill Lydia for always blowing up our cover but later I developed a style where she acted as a distraction and then my character just sneak-killed all the enemies fighting her. She was also useful as a shield and made fighting dragons much easier.
Also, there's followers who are actually GOOD at sneaking. I dumped Lydia for Cicero and haven't regret it. He almost never blows up our cover and is a beast in a fight.

Re: Stealth players
My first character specialized in spamming the invisibility spell and sneak-attacking with a dagger. This meant that I could deal with dragons quite easily, if ever I actually managed to catch them on the ground while they attacked NPCs. The rest of the time fighting them was nearly impossible.

This is exactly why I worked on my assassin's one-handed skills and magicka. Her face to the world is as an illusionist. Illusion doesn't work on dragons. But swords combined with a ward spell do.
