This is now a thread discussing what this thread should discuss.

I will say that I'm quite disappointed that it's computer-only. There are no decent MMOs for us PS3 people.
It's okay to disagree with me, you're entitled to your opinion. No matter how wrong you are.

Hmm. I wonder if we'll still get the usual quest for each Daedric prince. Because let's be honest, life's pretty boring without some Sheogorath to spice it up.

It's the nature of internet forums that Info and Free Discussion don't mix well in the same thread.
In my opinion, threads of this nature should be under Mod control only, and remain Locked, except when a Mod needs to update the factual info, after which it should be Locked again.
Let the "community" plaster its own self-generated Open Discussion threads about this topic on the forum.

Re: MMO announced.
Really? I think this thread is pretty civil, considering how passionately people here feel about the subject. Even the arguments have managed to stay away from personal attacks.
Back on topic: I wonder how difficult/impossible it will be to explore regions that are controlled by a different faction. Like, if you make a Breton, does that mean Black Marsh would be impossible (or nearly so) to adventure in?

Re: MMO announced.
Perhaps each province will be split up into smaller zones that would be more feasible to create in batches. Some could be dominated by one faction, others could be contested by others. Although honestly, I hope this isn't the direction they take. Too WoW-esque for my taste.Deandra wrote:Really? Re: MMO announced.
I'm on the fence with this one. Hopefully Bethesda will work some magic as it were and provide an mmo that does not sacrifice too much of what we love about skyrim...however, even the single player version is laggy enough, so hopefully that'll be sorted for the mmo. Will it be released on PS3?

Re: MMO announced.
PC and Mac only. Plus, it's being developed by Zenimax Online, not Bethesda. So, they won't have the brand familiarity that they would. Not sure if it'll matter or not, though.cowleyj wrote:I'm on the fence with this one. Okay, to bring some order into the chaos that is this thread, I've created a topic for the naysayers who would like to be a bit more constructive about their criticism and share some ideas on how Zenimax Online could actually make a good game that even they could enjoy. CLICK

Re: MMO announced.
Not to be rude but I don’t think many people here understand what an MMO is. If you’re expecting a Skyrim type of game but with other players, you’re setting yourself up for disappointment (If you wanted that anyway). All I can say is we’re most likely going to see something very similar to WoW. Unfortunately that’s not what people want. Maybe a few years ago people would have been more accepting of this but the WoW formula has seriously run its course. I’m not saying for sure that’s what we’ll get but it’s what I’m expecting. I’m not criticizing and I’m still very much looking forward to what this will bring, but I’m being realistic about my expectations.

Re: MMO announced.
No no no, what I meant is that the design and lore of Tamriel have been changed a lot since Arena by the developers for game-making reasons.Cardbird wrote:The game is 2E.Jcnator wrote:
1) The WHOLE of Tamriel! They haven't done that since arena and the world has changed a lot since then. Im guessing each province will have its final boss encounter, ex: Elsweyr; The halls of colosus.
Anyways, back to topic:
I thought of something else. The Elder Scrolls Games have used since Daggerfall is that you gain levels not through gaining experience from monsters. But through the use of skills. Every MMO out there uses the EXP that monsters drop. If TESO uses the skill system, maybe it could prove better than the EXP system.
The future, is in the past. ONWARDS AOSHIMA!

Re: MMO announced.
That's probably the make-or-break point for me, thinking about it. It's definitely one of the ways that they could make it a bit more unique from other MMO's. And another way that ZeniMax could please the nay-sayers about the whole idea, i suppose.Jcnator wrote:Cardbird wrote:Jcnator wrote: I thought of something else. Re: MMO announced.
The factions have been mentioned before but not discussed much, does anyone else find it extreemyl ironic that the ebonheart pact consists of Argonians, Dunmer and Nords. Dunmer keep Argonian slaves, Nords would still be racist back then, and in the futue the Argonians will invade Morrowind. This faction may well be the most interesting because I can imagine there will be alot of fighting between the leaders of each race.

What the hell, $60 for an MMO? I would say that confirms it as F2P, if not then that's sad.

Wait, just to clarify,do you consider my opinion "adorably ridiculous" or wolfies mainstream remark because I'm getting confused.SithisIsMyCopilot wrote:Yeah, you have a right to voice your opinion. I also have the right to voice my opinion that your opinion is adorably ridiculous.
Freedom of speech is freedom of speech. Also, free speech doesn't necessarily apply here. This board probably isn't run or funded by a government entity, so the mods aren't compelled to allow anybody to just spout off with no limit. "Free speech" comes into play by anyone not liking how the mods run these boards just going and making their own boards.
This forum does not have to be runned by governmental entities or people affiliated with them so that it would make free speech a guarantee. As I have stated before it is a basic right for a human being in the 21st century .
For this reason I have the utmost respect for the mods of UESP because they don't act like overlords ruling us with a iron fist and censoring opinions left and right(like others do).
If you turn a few pages back you can see that a dimwitted member made a very insulting remark towards "the illiterate americans" which was handled gracefuly by Avron.
The mods of UESP all have golden ribbons from me.
Understandable, still I don't see negative posts as having that much of a effect on people especially if I think of you(a strong individual who doesn't seem easily influenced).Technically, there is no freedom of speech in Australia, so perhaps it's a 'basic' right some people take for granted . All I'm saying is, you're entitled to your opinion, and you can voice it, even if it is negative, I don't recall ever saying that people should not be allowed to dis the MMO at any stage. However, it annoy me when I come to a thread to read up on the MMO only to have to read through scores of negative posts, many by the same authors, stating and restating that TESO will be the death of the series, that it will be terrible, and writing it off before we even know more than a few snipits about it.
Then this thread should be locked like on other forums.I was actually surprised that it was open for discussion in the first place.Yes thank you, I am aware that this thread does not stipulate that it should be limited to information, however, it was made a Global Announcement after it was posted by the OP, and as such, I' d rather my Global be informative and for there to be a thread filled with people arguing about whether the MMO will kill TES or not, or speculating about what the MMO might encompass, than the reverse scenario.
And why shouldn't they?We have the basic recipe of this MMO so it's not like the opinions are based on air.mr cowbell2 wrote:I like how people are putting intense criticism on a game that will come out in a year.
Star Wars The Old Republic had that exact same price and we know how they handle monthly paymentsWhat the hell, $60 for an MMO? I would say that confirms it as F2P, if not then that's sad.

You're kidding, right? I've seen MMOs that require $15 a month and are $60 to begin with. Of course, after a year, it became free to play.Spiney wrote:What the hell, $60 for an MMO? I would say that confirms it as F2P, if not then that's sad.

I'd be more excited about this but chances are it's gonna be a monthly subscription deal and I can't handle another of those. So sadly my beloved TES is getting left in the dust in favor of other mmos I already plan for.

Re: MMO announced.
I think the Elder Scrolls MMORPG will be very popular and have many players, but I don't think it will ever kill of the single-player experience of traditional Elder Scrolls games.
The Elder Scrolls games have always been about being an adventurer in an epic fantasy world all yours to explore and enjoy, not to have other players interrupt your epic dragon slaying quest and irritate the Hell out of you.
I think this will be the only Elder Scrolls multiplayer experience. The single-player games are way too popular and good to be eclipsed...

If this will be the case and they will implement (and stubbornly maintain) monthly subscriptions then it would be a negative point for the MMO.It will have to be seriously groundbreaking to take me away from Guild Wars,EVE and Tera.grimAuxiliatrix wrote: I'd be more excited about this but chances are it's gonna be a monthly subscription deal and I can't handle another of those.
