Re: MMO announced.
Damnit. We got D3 dropping imminently, WoW: MoP late this year, GW2 this year(hopefully), and now TES Online? How the hell am I supposed to find time for this? I'll need to invent new hours in the day for this, you know, Beth. -shakes fist half-heartedly-

Candy does taste pretty good. But all joking aside, the art direction is the only thing I'm not sold on. Or at least, the color palette. I'd prefer something a bit less. . Artificial in appearance.

Lol, that would be pretty awesome but i'm actually already spoken for. Re: MMO announced.
TES:O will be released in 2013.
And where in lore are you basing this argument exactly? Although the Dunmer and Argonians have fought in the past from a Skyrim perspective, both in the Arnesian War of 3E 396 and the Red Year Invasion of 4E 5, this RP is set in the 2nd Era, and although it does state that the Ebonheart Pact is an alliance borne of necessity rather than mutual appreciation and friendship, the Dunmer and the Argonians do not necessarily hate each other. The Dunmer don't really hate any particular race, from what we see in-game of Morrowind. Essentially, with the Dominion and the Daggerfall Covenant rising to power, it was unite or perish for the Dunmer, Argonians and Nords.Sansreal wrote:It's already a travesty. Dunmer and Argonians would never form an alliance.DaKizmasta wrote:According to ign the three main factions are as follows:
Ebonheart Pact (Northern and Eastern Regions)
- Includes Argonions, Dunmer and Nords
And from the Fighters' Guild joining quest, it appears that they will be antagonizing the Daedra, as well.
Of course, Vivec knew it would be a disaster way before they even began planning.

No you're not. The colour palette is too vibrant, in my opinion. Everything's way too bright.the Savage Hippie wrote:Am I the only one who's really disgusted by the screenshots?
We'll see how this turns out. I'm not going to form an opinion before i see some gameplay (probably at E3) but i've gone from very excited to very hesitant upon seeing the screenshots. It just doesn't look like Elder Scrolls. It looks like just some other MMO. Plus, i want ot see some vistas!

Re: MMO announced.
You know, after reading several comments pointing out that I and other naysayers are basically stereotyping MMOs and their player base, I was beginning to think that maybe I really did miss something in my brief experience with MMOs. I don't know, played it wrong, met wrong people, whatever.
And then I saw gix playing through GW2 Beta (btw, those of you who're waiting for this game might want to check it out). You know gix, right? That's the guy who in his Let's Play Oblivion videos puts on a hood when it starts raining, tries to sleep at least a few hours every day and acts out every conversation he has in the game. And in GW2 he is happily smashing things and talking about bonuses he gets from new skills and what awesome gear he'll need to do something. Don't get me wrong - I'm not saying this is bad in any way, or that the MMOs somehow turn roleplayers into munchkins. But for me that just proves, once again, that MMORPG is basically a totally different genre than regular cRPG, and just because I like the latter doesn't mean I'll find anything enjoyable in the former.
I realize that it's possible to roleplay in MMOs and it can be a lot of fun with the right crowd, but to do that you have to work against what the game is pushing you to do. And it's everything, from the setting and other players, to the design of the quests and the game mechanics - it's designed with a different playstyle in mind and for me putting all this effort is just not worth the usually mediocre and frequently interrupted roleplaying experience I get in return. The only way I'd be able to enjoy MMOs would be on a server for roleplayers only with extremely strict policy against invasion of the munchkins. And even then this experience would likely be inferior to what I'm getting from single-player cRPGs, because of the limitations of the game mechanics and world design.
In conclusion, I guess my biggest problem with the TESO is that, just by being an MMO (and not a revolutionary one, from what I've read so far), it's completely disconnected from the things that define TES universe for me. If Zenimax really want to make an MMORPG, they should create a separate setting for it, because the only reasons for placing it within the TES franchise are the marketing reasons - drawing in the fanbase, using already developed lore and riding on the huge popularity of single-player TES games. It can potentially save them from becoming one more failed attempt to overthrow WoW, but that's all it is - a calculated, financially motivated decision, not a translation of "TES experience" into a new medium.

Re: MMO announced.
The negative reactions to this just reminds me of the people wanting Bethy to remove fast travel. If you don't want it, remember that there are millions of TES fans and I bet a lot of them like the idea of an MMO, as well as many who don't. I personally don't play MMO's but would actually consider trying this (as long as there's a free trial

Actually on that note, from what I hear, fast travel for the MMo is tied to Wayshrines, which also act as the spawn points for player characters upon death. The rationale behind rebirth/respawning being that Molag Bal has stolen the PCs' souls.

One hundred percent.
Also, to me at least, Zenimax capitalizing on the Elder Scrolls brand is completely antiethical. I don't think the veterans at Bethesda are too happy about this generic MMO. At all.

I'm interested to see if you actually have anything upon which you base this claim, because I could potentially believe this, although I see it as doubtful. Any evidence that supports your view here, or are you just theorising?fabittar wrote:Also, to me at least, Zenimax capitalizing on the Elder Scrolls brand is completely antiethical. Additionally, if it's unethical to make videogames that people want to buy and play, then Zenimax is by definition, unethical
